Title: Devon's 1.1 Screenpack and Lifebar Project Thread
Post by: presidentdevon on July 14, 2014, 01:35:59 pm
Hello, this is a thread for all of my Screenpack and Lifebar Work.
Planned Projects DOSMugen HD - DOSMugen's screenpack given unnecessary effects and HD flair. MUGEN 4K FullHD - My first 1080P screenpack which will (or should, we'll see how this goes) hold 4000 characters.
Working on MUGEN Megamix HD Remake - An HD Remake of Fido's MUGEN Megamix screenpack. (http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/dafamily_album/mugen1-1.jpg) (http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/dafamily_album/mugen2-1.jpg)
Spoiler: "On Hold"(click to see content)
Working On Capcom vs SNK Mini - A compilation of Warusaki3's characters and EXShadow's stages made with a 720p screenpack and custom lifebars. I plan to put everything I've learned about system.def and fight.def into this. Will contain custom menus, crippling animations (lol), animated sprites in cursors, stage previews. The lot.

Thanks for the suggestion, but for the initial release I'll be looking at something closer to the source material: (http://i.imgur.com/uNKqpVl.png) I may use that layout for an extended release, though.

Thank you! I've finished the mockup for the select screen. It's a little dirty but the elements should come together nicely.

Many folks are going to eat this one up, for sure. I like the concept and hope everything comes together. Good luck and yeah, I never was able to get to re-making it.

Well I got the select screen up and running and I'm happy with it. But it's been a struggle and I've had a modify the look a little
(http://i.imgur.com/sySCnMH.png)
I wanted to avoid using the static from the old screenpack as a way to distinguish it. But I'm thinking of putting it on the name areas to make it seem a little more lively. Try as I might I couldn't get the semi-transparent block over the portrait but below the text. layerno = 1 would just put the block over the text, which made it hard to see.

Post by: BIG BOSS on July 17, 2014, 03:27:18 pm
Looking like the original to so far, I would add the static on the ports. Also, I wouldn't worry about the transparent layer. The original don't have it, the names are fine the way they are. Still this is your project and go for broke.lol On the static, I would push for something more like a bad tv reception. This is 1.1 and I would push it far as I can. Good luck and keep it simple but, yet righteously gorgeous.

Post by: Markpachi on July 17, 2014, 03:39:30 pm
I think you should drop the tv static. I honestly did not like them, even back on the original. Also, don't go too crazy with the scan lines.

Imo you should use custom small ports for 9000,0 they looked nice in your concept. The original 9000,0 looks not so nice site it's scaled up to fit the desired size. Looking good man.

I worked on it a little last night before reading this comment. I dunno if a screenshot can sway you but it honestly doesn't look too bad. (http://i.imgur.com/TrxhINV.png) Actually, this screenshot doesn't really sway me either lol. Once I'm done with the versus screen I'll post up a video which should do it justice.

Thanks! Yeah custom small ports will be a thing. I never bothered putting them in for the previews because it's a small thing that I'll throw in on the side. Expect it in my preview video.
One question I wanted to ask: In the screenshot above the tile says "Arcade" despite the fact I changed it to "Arcade Mode" on the title screen. How do I go about fixing that?
Title: Re: World Warriors X HD Remake Screenpack
Post by: Markpachi on July 18, 2014, 05:41:37 pm
Tv static could work, I guess, but I think it should be subtle. Try not to make it too dark. So far, it's too dark, in my opinion.

Video of the SP looks cool. Now all you need to do if you can is get the life bars jazzed up. Other than that nice work so far
Question:
Do you plan to have a alternate version with way more character slots?

The VS text animation could use some trans coding.

Yes. I'm actually working on that now, before I start work on the lifebars, to get it out of the way.

Thanks for the support guys, here's a mockup of the select screen: (http://i.imgur.com/mzOur1v.png) The main difference between this and the old MT3 is that MT3 used a lot of flashing and lightning effects that messed with my eyes. Now there's a bit of lightning in the menu screen but it's not too bad. There is no lightning here, I decided to focus on the moon here. I've decided teammates names aren't important vs the space it takes up. Also note custom portraits won't be necessary here, although they aren't really necessary in WWXHD either if you modified a few lines in the system.def.

This is looking very good!
I don't like so much the tree in the background... but I like the fact that is not going to have custom ports!
Any idea for the lifebar? If I can suggest a couple of things:
1) non-introsive lifebars
2) powerbars on top

That tree is kinda needed for the blowing leaves animation, dude. =P Also, I have my lifebars planned out. I don't know if they will be non-intrusive or not but the powerbars will be at the top.
Anyway, I've mocked up the victory screen here. I've been trying to use 9000,1 as the base for most portraits to cut down on adding sprites to characters. 9000,0 and 9000,1 will be coded for custom ports on release but if you want them back to default I'll definitely make it obvious in the select.def so anyone can customize that part. (http://i.imgur.com/CQI8fSH.png)
EDIT: FUCK IT, I SHOULDN'T SPEND ALL DAY ON A VICTORY SCREEN. THIS IS THE FINAL, USING 9000,2 (http://i.imgur.com/5fKWaTB.png)

And yes, the margins in the victory screen need to be fixed a little. Overall I'm extremely happy with the accuracy in relation to my mockups.

Man your on fire and I love the menu concept. Something new with flavor and your quick with the concepts. Got to ask what will be your next project. The select and victory is right on point with everything. It would be awesome if you could get the lighting to have it's own sound blended. Mono of both sounds would be great. Take your time and keep it rocking man.

Up next I'm making standalone lifebars based on the old school platformer Psychic/Psycho World. So far mocking this up has been EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. My goal is to release this tomorrow. 1.1 Only.

I'm aware, this kind of flash over substance won't happen often. I have learned a fair bit about fonts by just working on the timer though. That's a plus, especially with my big RandoMUGEN project coming up. I really needed the crash course.

I'll be working on a personal project of mine that I may release (a street fighter screenpack), and then after that I'll work through my project list. I'll probably work on 640x480 versions of my previous screenpacks, which I will release as a pack. After that I'll work on my screenpack list, then finish up with Craftfighters Lifebars. After that I'll move on from lifebars and screenpacks for the most part and start making stages. Well, that's the plan.

Sometimes people like me are a little bit bored with filtering characters to make them fit well some good SP's.
But if i'm here today, it is simply to tell you that you'd gave me the will to continue my conversion work.
Your SPs are simply incredible...they need to be feed with some HD looking characters...so, thx a lot for motivated me with your surprisingly good work.
I'm looking forward to see more of your stuff, and of course as soon as you'll release CvS or Street Fighter SPs, i'll do my best to fullfilled them the right way.
THX A LOT Devon and congratulations!!!
keep up and keep your Screenpacks coming my friend...

Thanks guys. Last night was too late to start with the lifebars, so I started working on my next project: (http://i.imgur.com/86UPplr.png) Won't start coding until this screenpack is released though. It's gonna have animated cursors and stage select previews so the roster and stages will be fixed. I might release it as a compilation.
The Roster is already sorted, here's what I have: Capcom (Selectable): Ryu, Ingrid, Hayato, Lilith, Yun, Jill, Guy SNK (Selectable): Kyo, Nakoruru, Terry, Athena, Rock Howard, Hibiki, Ryo Guest (Selectable): Yoko Littner Sub Boss (CPU Only): Akuma, Rugal Boss (CPU Only): God Rugal So standard fare. I downloaded every stage I could get of EXShadow, so there will be neato stages. I may have to turn off the Groove Points though, because P1 Groove Points are misaligned by 10 pixels and I have no idea how to fix that. I'll also need to find AI patches because a few characters are borderline potatoes and I want to make sure God Rugal is hard.

I'm really liking the revisions you did to this SP. I'm usually too lazy to mess with custom ports and all, but I'm seriously considering giving it a go with this SP. Love the layout, the select screen, everything. Looks very commercial, like a real game. Great work and good luck with everything.
On a side note: I wanted to ask about the select BGM as well you have for the new version. Sounds like a remix to a SFEX3 track. Sounds really nice. Did you make that? Or did you find it somewhere?

The CVS Mini|HD project for now has been downgraded from "using warusaki3 characters" to "not using warusaki3 characters". I've also decided to drop ExShadow stages from the project as I don't really want the potential for trouble. So yeah, I dunno what to do. I've decided I didn't really want a CVS2 influence in the screenpack and would rather do my thing. I still want to do animated sprites/cursor trick and stage previews so I haven't dropped the project all together. I might put it on the backburner as I figure out stage creation.

"potential for trouble"? did something happened? does that apply to warusaki3 chars as well?

Nah, Warusaki3 characters are different - They're too "locked in" to the CVS2 style which I want to move away from. I decided on a whim to look up ExShadow's post history and I can see him coming into a release topic demanding I take out his stages. Which is fine for him to do, they're his stages after all, but it will completely gut the game and I don't want to deal with that possibility. So just remove that potential and carry on.

So Devon, you say that you want a more custom and improved style (like POTS, DivineWolf, Race) right. Looks fine for me. :) That's because the Warusaki chars are more accurate in the case of being a gameplay style CVS2. I prefer the custom style too. Thus playing style is wider.
Title: Re: Devon's 1.1 Screenpack and Lifebar Project Thread
Post by: presidentdevon on August 23, 2014, 08:41:22 am
It's not about preference. The screenpack as a whole started out as a CVS2-inspired project, mainly because I wanted to incorporate Warusaki3's characters into a neat looking lifebar. It's when I thought it would be awesome to pack the thing with tons of anims that the focus switched, and yeah I guess I'm going back to the Custom-EX Style stuff, which is fine because I like that style. Might have one author's stuff for Capcom Characters and another for SNK Characters. I dunno, the floor's open.
EDIT: New video for the option screen:

Title: Re: Devon's 1.1 Screenpack and Lifebar Project Thread
Post by: presidentdevon on August 24, 2014, 04:41:43 am
Eh, I dunno. Right now the screenpack clocks in with a 13 second load time. The original CVS3 v1 screenpack is 15, and I still haven't done the select screen, made any transitions or reworked some of the anims for my new roster.
Speaking Of: Capcom: Ryu, Morrigan, Guy, Skullomania, Batsu, Jill Valentine, Akuma SNK: Kyo, Ryo, Rock Howard, Haohmaru, Athena, Mai, Iori Sub-Bosses: Seth, Geese Howard Final Boss: Haven't decided yet, probably something stupid like Orochi Shin Akuma. Actually that's not fair to call it stupid, Orochi Shin Akuma is awesome to fight against.

Neh, as much as I want to include Chunners because I have a cool theme for her I have a quota of 2 females per side and I don't want to give up Jill or Morrigan for it.
As for Akuma, I want him playable because I play Akuma, plus Orochi Shin Akuma is Final Boss, Akuma is actually set to order=0 right now because at higher difficulties he parries everything which really kills the fun (I want difficulty without frustration, I want people to hit continue because they almost beat the CPU rather than quitting because the AI is an advancing juggernaut).

Also I'll be getting back into the CVS3 swing, got a PSD a few nights ago I'm gonna look through soon. Until then here's a preview video for Megamix, also CVS Mini is now private.
Right now it's looking like a 468-slot SP. For them big collectors out there.

I love the bright selection of colors! It looks so vibrant, but that vertical scrolling tv effect thing isn't looping properly, I think.

I know what you mean, but it's looping about as best as it could, trust me.

I love that you still chose to use default ports, it's so much easier on the users. Hopefully 1.1 does a stable release one day so that I'll be able to use your stuff.

For my next project I'd like suggestions for screenpacks that don't have lifebars. I will make lifebars for them. MUGEN 1.1 only. Suggest as many as you like, I'll pick and choose.

I'm making a standalone lifebar while I plan the next SP. (http://i.imgur.com/2Yww5Wy.png)

Super slow progress due to flu and migraine issues. This should be done tomorrow though.
Here's an in-game screenshot, not much left to go, just need to fix up the layerno of the small ports, do the combo font, and the round x, fight, k.o stuff.

Should be ready tomorrow.

How in the world did you get psylocke's portrait to follow her palette scheme ._.
either way, it looks fantastic and those will easily become my main lifebars.

I don't know. Credit to DivineWolf who made the Psylocke, I just put her in the chars folder.
Haven't touched the characters, the lifebars won't need custom ports.

Well, i know if using 1.1 the lifebar portrait usually doesn't follow the palette. But it seems that somehow with this lifebar that happens, which is pretty cool.
and I'm pretty excited for these.

I've started working on things again. All previous (public) projects are now cancelled. (http://i.imgur.com/TSiql0E.jpg) Black Editions planned for MUGEN Tournament, RandoMUGEN, Marvel vs Capcom vs SNK and MUGEN Megamix as well.
What is "Black Edition"? Stripped down designs, expanded (or reduced) roster sizes (when applicable), all screenpacks will be 1280x720 and use the "Black Edition Lifebars" which will be released bundled with each screenpack (as well as a separate release alongside WWX BE).

I'm also advertising my services as a designer. I will design anything you need SP-wise as long as it follows these criteria:
Creative control
1.1 only
You're welcome to feedback on the design, as well as to contribute any initial design ideas (I will use initial ideas, but feedback changes will depend). I don't require any sort of accreditation for the work, I will photoshop, give you the psd and you can do whatever with it, even say you made it yourself.
Yes, I will even design an entire SP for you.
Yes, I will do lifebars as well (but not animations, sorry!).

I would ask that you make mugen match 3 by tatsu/shiyo kakuge hopefully something that fits his tag system lifebars size most preferably 640x480, custom ports though I don't think I can do any favors to you since I am pretty new to coding and not that good in the graphics department well ethier way it's up to you
