Answering to concerned citizens petitions  Target and Kmart in Australia have decided to ban mysoginistic game GTA V

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-12-03/target-kmart-pull-grand-theft-auto-5-game-sexual-violence/5939184

The petition:

So killing everyone else: Fine

But to women! No it's mysogynistic now they're special flowers. They want to be treated differently then men

Now looking up Garry's Mod, here I come nude Kasumi (heh).

Quote
"It's a game that encourages players to murder women for entertainment. The incentive is to commit sexual violence against women, then abuse or kill them to proceed or get 'health' points – and now Target are stocking it and promoting it for your Xmas stocking," the petition said.

"This misogynistic GTA V literally makes a game of bashing, killing and horrific violence against women."

So the main objective of Grand Theft Auto is to be a woman-beating sack of shit, nice to know I was wrong. Here I thought it was about being involved in the affairs of organized crime, how silly.

DOA should get banned too, for most of the characters being oversexualised girls. Anyway, they're focusing too much on one aspect of a game about CARS.

Those poor virtual men always get the short end of the stick when it comes to woes. :P

What makes no sense is that I don't recall any missions where you have to intentionally kill ANY woman. Hell, the first time we meet Trevor, he asks Wade, "Do you think it's clever to disrespect women?" after he refers to Ashley as "that bitch you was in."

Hell, as I recall, only ONE woman is killed by a protagonist in the storyline
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

If you kill women, it's either because you LIKE to kill women, or, if you're like me, you just like to kill people in general because that's what open world games are for. It's way more fun to fuck with gang members, though.

HAHAHAHA

GMod is online-only and Valve has more sense than to pull any games from Steam.

Because that fact makes the joke fall flat, even though I liked the premise.

I think I have a different version of GTAV, because the main objective in MY copy is completely different.

Is it the genetic engineering of a unicorn and the cleansing of ocean pollution ?

no it wasnt. no other joke example would work either because it's very unlikely it would happen. "pull mortal kombat from shelves because you can do fatalities on women" "Well, Actuallyl, thats probably not going to happen, because,". if jokes "fell flat" because they're not plausible then you're killing off most comedy ever

A bit of context on this: The Australian arms of Target and Kmart are owned by the same group, Wesfarmers. If something gets pulled from one, it generally gets pulled from the other. So it's not really indicative of building momentum to a ban.

But if you ask me, GTAV getting pulled probably has less to do with the petition, and more to do with pre-empting the outrage Target would've suffered if people had noticed this earlier:

That's the top of a full-page ad in the largest national newspaper, advertising Grand Theft Auto V as a children's toy. Because videogames are for children, don'tcha know.

This. That's just poor product placement; doesn't mean they should STOP CARRYING THE FUCKING GAME OVER BULLSHIT CLAIMS THAT HAVE NO FACTUAL BASIS TO THEM.

I remember that one hollywood movie about a bank heist has a kid playing gta in his psp, one of the robbers sees him doing that asks him what the game is about, the kdi replies that it's about crime then the robber stops the kid from playing it; I watched that movie at my sis's house and she was surprised and asked me fi the game is real I just said yes and kept quiet about my nehpew (my sis's son) had the game for his xbox, I don't feel abd about taht as I knew that even as a 10 yo my nephew was already able to tell reality and fictino apart as we  played make believe wrestling together (he was rey misterio adn I was batista becuase a 70kg 1.74 m skinny mexican is still a giant for a 10 yo kid).
