Title: Hardrive space and storage input
Post by: Just No Point on December 18, 2014, 06:55:25 pm
So I have an internal slave drive going out. It no longer allows me to write to it but I can copy from it. When the PC boots up it says the hard drive is bad.

So should I invest in a new hard drive or simply upgrade my dropbox instead?

4 TB External HD
PROS:
1 time fee
Gives extra storage space, not just backup space
More storage/backup potential (DB is limited to 1TB)

CONS:
Much larger fee up front $139 at WalMart compared to 9.99 a month or $99 a year with DB
More potential to go out/crash
Doesn't store older versions of files.
Must physically have the HD to access files where as with DB I can access them anywhere I can install DB

If you don't use your dropbox very often, you might as well get a harddrive

I'd get the Hard Drive, but it's that just me having a technology Diogenes syndrome ;)

I don't like having my data stored on a Cloud service and nothing ensures me the DropBox owners will someday decide to stop the business or have their business shut down (as it happened with other file sharing services in the past due to copyright claims) the day after I paid a yearly subscription.

HAH I'm actually on the other end as I've had 3 hard drives go out on me in the last 6 months! So I'm a little jaded with them now too.

But yeah, I think I should just get the external and use sync toy to keep my works backed up better.

Thanks everyone. I just got really fed up with hard drive scares!
