It's been a long time since I shared a crazy story. This happened within the last 24 hours
THURSDAY: Yo-Yo Ma and the nightlife
- went to see yo-yo ma peform last night
- arrived 1 hr 30 mins early
- gathered keys, ticket and security money
- placed in pocket
- arrive at the show
- sit in designated seat while reading the program
- overhear a conversation between to old folks about how young kids are stressed from homework and how boring it would be for yo-yo ma to play bach
- time dwindles as the audience packs the theatre
- show starts, opening acts ensue
- old money bags and accompanying hag sip $20 glasses of wine and leave before yo-yo ma actually performs (impatience or lack of interest?)
- yo-yo ma comes out, rocks da house. just by watching him it's evident he has a strong passion for what he does, as well as appreciation for others around him
- concert finishes, i walk 10 blocks to my car parked next to the parking meter only to find out i lost my keys
- backtrack an equivalent of a 2-mile radius with no luck, no keys reported loss back at the theatre
- i set a guiness world record for cursing the most and the loudest downtown
- sacriface my much-needed gas money to catch a cab since it's far too late in the evening
- (the plan is to catch the bus back downtown next morning and search search search)
- i tell my cab driver the story, he sympathizes, gives me three cigs and i get him an extra 3 bucks tip
- cab drops me off at my mother's, i call the local non-emergency hotline to waiver plausible ticketing or towing of my vehicle...
- ...instead im told to leave a note on the window stating my case to ward off any penalty. leave a note. on a piece of paper. on my windshield. in the rain.
- ...also told to call parking violations. i get the number, dial and told that "this number is no longer vaild"
- i try to watch tv to ease my nerves only to see that the first thing to pop on tv is that infamous seinfeld episode where everybody forgets where they parked in the garage
FRIDAY: Cops, payphones, locksmiths and lotsa RAGE
- wake up around 8am sometime and catch the earliest bus downtown
- walk through a fuckton of mud and construction in the same dress garments as last night (remember, no keys, no car, no access to my apt.)
- (as im walking i try to make a call only to find out i left my cellphone, which was near dead, at my mothers house. FUCK)
- get a tsunami of roadside splash from some punk ass driver
- continue to walk about a mile towards my car only to find out my keys are inside the car
- (evidently as i grabbed my coat with the keys, ticket and money inside, the keys fell out without me recognizing it)
- im relived that theyre not lost somewhere in the city but now i have a new problem: getting them out da car
- i walk seven blocks to the nearest payphone in the sunny skylight that is downtown informing my mom
- downtown library doesnt open for another half hour so i ask her to check on some locksmiths as i make my way back to the car to put change in the meter
- im walking and notice signs on dozens of meters saying "NO PARKING TODAY". what the fuck.
- so yeah, still walking back to the car, an old couple creeps up on me wanting directions to the VA hospital
- i inform them how to get there but theyre old and shit and im horrible giving directions to drive somewhere
- i told them id help them out by printing out directions from mapquest as soon as the library opens, they give me a lift there and its on like popcorn
- 5 mins pass, i give them the directions, old geezer appreciates my scouts honor and offers a buck for my time. i refuse, say "take care" and handle my shit
- i inform library security of my situation (car is parked in from of a meter with "No Parking Today" on it, next to the library, a block away from the police station") but they very rudely tell me to basically get the fuck out and talk to a cop about my problem
- rage rage
- more payphone phone tag with mom and possible locksmith price estimates. not looking good but so what (got paid today, even tho its rent money)
- i walk a fuckton more, spotting six sheriff cars with no cops in them, then i see some big fat ass cop who looks like faizon love enter some "give me money because im a dipshit woman who had lots of sex and got a baby as a constallation prize" center
- i tell him my deal, he has a cop meet me by the car and....we meet.
- i tell him my keys are in there, he gets his slim jim and tries to jimmy it open.
- no luck.
- no luck because he's an impatient fuck who got called off manning some empty parking lot or some shit and decides to only jimmy open one door (passenger door no less)
- rage rage rage rage
- "im sorry but youre gonna have to try somebody else. i got an appointment in 5 minutes, i gotta be some place." puts the slim jim back in the trunk and gets in the car.
- my rage increases and i yell "thanks for the half-assed help you fucking piece of shit." have no idea if he heard me but he speeds away.
- during all this a bum is being a vulture of the area, offering to help me get my kets. bitch has nothing but a walmart bag of clothes. no bum. no thank you.
- a woman pushes her child in teh stroller down the street and i ask if she has change for a dollar so i can make another call (running desparately low on funds at this point). she just gives me 50 cents then asks if i had to make a quick call cuz if i did she'd let me use her cell
- i tell her i need to call a locksmith so i hav eno idea. she gives it up and i call. locksmith says theyll be there in 30 minutes.
- time passes as the bum hawks my car. fucking bum.
- the woman's father meets me and says he could get my keys using a coathanger, for $20 bucks. sure, if you can do it.
- he doesnt have one, he drives up the street to a gastation for one ???
- he comes back but by this time the locksmith is there. $130 to get my shit. i have no cash. is credit ok?
- "no but we can go to an atm machine." fine whatever. i start the car. transmission is studdering and slipping cuz it needs fluid and i almost break my cv axle again. in the middle of an intersection. almost hit by some cars
- RAGE, WHERE ART THOU? OH THERE YOU ARE! AARRRGGGHHH RAGE BLAH BLAH RAAAGEEEEEEE
- i drive a few blocks to the marathon gas station. atm machine is busted. i hav eno idea where anotehr station is. i scream "ARE YOU MOTHERFUCKING KIDDING ME? THIS IS SOME PUNK ASS MOTHERFUCKING BULLLSHHIIIIIIIIIT!" everyone freaks out as i leave
- locksmith is terrified at this point, but courageous enough to get his money.
- as i drive i curse A LOT, hand gestures accompanied. everyone including the locksmith is looking in worry
- he tails me nearly 10 miles to a gas station that just so happens to be down the street from my mother.
- i go in, get the money, give it to him, put transmission fluid in the car and have a moment with myself since im having mass rage issues
- i visit my mom, tell her the deal, she gives me money so i can still pay rent.
AFTERMATH
- forgot i had to take my uncle to work. i leave my mothers, head to his house them zoom back to his job spot in nearly an hour
- i drive back home to rest a bit. then leave again to get hella duplicate keys made.
- i give some to my grandmother, she also gives me some money to help me out
- i get something to eat. waste mustard on my dingy dress shirt that i just bought yesterday. get pissed and whine about it.
- time passes, day grows weary, i go to Target to buy a red bull, go back to my car and listen to Mitch Hedburg
- more time passes, clean up my house, take out trash and see my smokin hot neighbor doing the same
- proceed to post about a stressful day about my life that's more or less insignificant to you all.
car's cool, still got the ticket and program book from the show and now im off to get some more burgers cuz im burgin like a motherfucker
THE END. the moral to this story is: if you lose your keys, make sure you have spares made
