I take it you haven't heard. Not surprising, blizzard only mentions it in twitter feeds and the like:

Quote
Q. Will we be able to play with our friends on other continents like we could in StarCraft's Battle.net?

A. Currently we do not have plans to integrate friends between regions for launch. In the long run that's definitely something we'll be looking at.

If I did just describe online gaming, Battle.net 2 not including cross region play must mean it's something less than online gaming.

I'm not buying the game until they implement some sort of cross region play. Only reason I'd get it is to play with friends... many of which are overseas.

Importing won't work either, since one is in Brazil, one's in Australia, couple in the US, and a few in Europe. Even if we coordinated and bought copies for the same region, someone's gonna get charged huge import fees, and that's just not worth it.

So yeah, waiting for cross region play.

The face thing was flat out unfair. You have to choose between two badly manipulated photos... at least I hope they're badly manipulated and not the deformed monstrosities shown in the pictures.
I went for the one that looked less ridiculous, and it said I choose masculine faces. Okay.

It's impossible to pin down "one thing" that makes a game great instead of just good, because well, most the great games just perform well in every aspect and not just one.

So yeah, good story, good gameplay, good art style, good music = good fighter. Foul one of those up and it's hard to make up for it in the other areas.
Same with any game genre really.

One, you'd have 6 characters.
Hard in a game where you only have the choice of 1 or 2 characters depending on if it's single/multiplayer.
Two, their abilities.
Easily overcome by anyone who knows NES assembly.

Three, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of size limit for romhacks, and this is probably more mbs than the actual SMB rom.
A significant possibility is running out of space, yes. That is very true.

Your example's a bit nonsensical and focused on male genitalia. If the "insult" was a bit more realistic, then no, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

an effective way of contructive criticism should be written in balanced sense, and using words that states your point without hurting the feeling,
I learned long ago that tiptoeing around hypersensitive people's feelings is far more trouble than it's worth. If people are going to take offense at criticism to their character ("insulting" criticism or no), then they're not worth your time.
Emphasis on "criticism to their character." I don't think anyone would disagree that insulting the creator directly is not good.

I wonder if this would've been easier to do as a romhack. Biggest problem would be porting the music/sound effects from the other games into SMB1... the rest would be easy and you wouldn't have to remake the entire game block by block.

Maybe you should learn from mr. Jok, who has exactly the attitude he needs.

To give this post some useful content...

If you need help with something specific, Jok, check the development help forum. Release threads give feedback, yes, but you'd best wait until you have a mostly complete product before making one. Otherwise, as Darkflare said, there's just too many problems.

I don't understand the need to bash at all. If it sucks and the creator isn't going to take feedback, why even bother posting?
You have a point if the creator isn't going to take feedback. But if they are...

Quote
]You guys do not have to post in these threads. I don't think anyone is going to die if you don't bash something.
...If they're not informed how vastly (or slightly) terrible their creation is, they might think the problems aren't as big as they actually are (or worse, not know they exist).

Also there might be a bit of confusion as to what "bashing" is. IMO it is calling out problems for what they are, not petty insults. A useless comment would be insulting the creator's mother or whatever, while saying a character is shit can be 100% accurate and needed to be said.

Sugarcoating won't help anyone get better.

If something's terrible, they need to be told it's terrible. They also need to be told why it's terrible, and that does happen in the vast majority of threads.

Bash the creation, not the creator, imo. Unless the creator's a dick in which case, bash away. :)

FF5's only underrated because it wasn't released outside of Japan on the SNES, and when they finally released it for the PS1, the localization was terrible. It got a much better one on the GBA, but by that time it was mostly forgotten.

It's probably my second favorite of the numbered final fantasies, just behind 6. The job system was awesome and innovative for its day, and a huge step up from 3's.

I remember them being just fine.
You don't remember having to clean them every 2 weeks? :|
Mine all had a tendency to shoot the cursor in random directions for seemingly no reason. Probably some dirt inside or something.

I kinda understand the precision argument, though. I always assumed my mouse just sucked, but it seems to have trouble detecting slight movements.
