Thanks I think I got it working with the replace trick...

A little messy but I think its just something I have to clean up in the format creation of the file.

Hi I want to edit a character and basically put someone else's face over the characters original.  I have downloaded GIMP and Fighter Factory.  And somehow made an indexed palette of the character I'm editing.(can't remember now but the palette file is there)

I'm just so confused on what I'm supposed to do from there.  I'm supposed to somehow make the other image I have that doesn't fit in with the palette completely, to fit in.  Any help would be appreciated.

ShugenDo and the potential of online play is the perfect reason to go in this direction.  How retarded are people when they want to restrict ShugenDo to the point that if you face someone online you can only use the characters you have downloaded and they can only use the characters they downloaded?  Yeah that makes a lot of sense.

Why is it ok to trade creations without an author's permission but not ok to just make distribution easier for all?  Basically when it comes down to it you just want to make it harder for people who weren't around in the beginning.  It doesn't matter if their good or not.  If you were a "leecher" in the past you're still allowed to have that character but if your someone new you shouldn't be allowed?  Makes no sense.

As for the person's comment that you don't like to give anything out without any exchange, its a fact of life that you'll always owe someone else for something else, despite what you may do.  Why get so tied up over something that has been released as free to begin with?

I can understand authors getting mad about not getting credit off their works, but you know a lot of you don't exactly credit the author's of the original games works either.  You just name a company.  And you talk about the big bad warehouses deleting your credits, most people don't because its a waste of time to do so.

And I can even see it being more fair to respect the requests of creators of truly original works and not just code and sprite emulation ripoffs.  But your original works have iffy protection MUGEN to begin with since you're using cracked/open source code.

So really what are you doing in MUGEN with your works?  You should know by now that practically no one will pay for MUGEN works.  And you should know putting something on the internet that is easily transferrable will be passed around.  You're basically left with the law to do things with.  And really that's not going to be profitable for you.  Especially in the majority of cases where you guys have ripped off other games original works to begin with.

You can try to punish people that go around distributing your works with the law but I'm betting most of you don't think that's financially worth it.  So why not just enjoy yourselves?

Introduce your characters on your site.  People come and talk about the release.  And the more people that and play your character the more likely you'll see people making videos and talking about your creations to begin with.

As a player I really like close accuracy to the real thing because it finally gives me a sense of what it would be like to have the various fighting systems interact with each other.  Like MUGEN gives people the chance to have the Guilty Gear vs Capcom vs Snk vs whatever else game they always wanted to see but will probably never happen.

You can't be a 100% accurate between game styles but I think there's a lot of room for many certain game characters to interact in a relatively balanced way.  Like you probably aren't going to see much balance between old MK and Original SF 2 characters vs.  the latest by Guilty Gear, Capcom and Snk.  But the Guilty Gear, Capcom(later stuff) and later Snk characters(particularly with evade moves) may have quite a bit of decent balance between each other.

I also don't really look to play against AI though some people solely do.  The one thing I like to do to look at AI in demo is to see what moves are at the disposal of the character.  Good demonstrations of move sets sometimes makes me give a creation I'm not so sure I'm gonna still use another chance.

I guess its also personal.  Like if I see a Dan character that's actually powerful and not so much pitiful that's kind of junk to me, unless its puprosely done to be humorous.  But for someone to just make Dan and give him a completely new move set and make them powerful I don't want to use them.  But there are certainly other people who feel the opposite about that.

I applaud the Guild's decision.  And may just might stick around to contribute something in the long run.

One critiicism:  call me stupid but I got confused when I looked at your main page, and trying to figure out what this site was about.  I don't know why but maybe you should change the front page to make a little more introductory sense.  There's no real introduction as to what this site is when you come here.  Just some suggestions.

I wouldn't have even registered here if it wasn't for the decisions you guys made.
