Sprite-wise, it's actually quite decent. I agree that it could use some extra frames especially ease-in/ease-out frames for some of the moves. There could also have been some motion blur/ swishes to add to the impact of some of the moves. It also lacks some decent effects.

Overall, not a bad effort by the creator, though.

OK, the next step of animation.... cut the body into three sections: Chest, waist and hips. When you animate these, consider the bending of the spine. You could also cut the top of the chest for the collar bones which you would split into right and left collar bones so the shoulders move like I mentioned before. Don't forget that there is a neck, too, as well as a head. The body can be very flexible so don't forget that.

In regards to shading, you won't get the best cel shading in 3d because the shading is based on physical 3d form and that doesn't always fit with what we view as correct shading. Just be aware of that.

Watch your stances and movements. His right leg looks bent wrong. Also, don't forget to animate the shoulders/collarbones. They are just as flexible as other parts of the body. If you watch the Matrix movies, you'll notice that the CGI doubles don't move their shoulders and that's what turned me off in the FX.

Good luck with this.

Use low polygon models as they will be quicker to animate. Also, if you plan to make your own models, just download pre-ripped models from games and make your own textures or something like that. Modelling your own characters can be tricky and time consuming unless you know what you are doing.

Hope this helps.

When doing the "Skullo T'katchev" move, the opponent can get completely frozen halfway through.

Which character? I test it with many chars and it never happen  :???:

Is that chars has their own trigger that active when they in lie down animation? I never put enemy in their or my lie down state, but if they just trigger something just because liedown animation, then it that chars problem.

Or they frozen it a differance way :???:

I did a quick test and some characters from Big Bang Beat (I don't know the author but characters are: Ren Idagawa and Sanzou Kongoumaru) and a character named Hanny.

Basically, after I do the move on them, they get stuck in a 'get up' loop and I can't get them out of it.

I hope this helps.

Revanto  ;P

PS: Are you planning on making Vulcano Rosso as well in the future? I'd love to see him done but I know that some of his moves have a turning camera making it hard to capture side-on sprites.

Aw, dammit! I'm still trying to find a way of ripping the models from either the ps1 or ps2 version Street Fighter EX 2. I know there is one for PS2 but it's based on camera angle and it can't rip models properly.

Thanks for the info.

Just a quick question: Did you make the sprites from screen shots/video capture or did you actually rip the 3d model and textures and animate those?

I'm pretty sure that it's the first one but if it was the second one then I have follow-up questions after you reply.

Thank you. Sol Blaze does nice beta animations for us. So he is my skeleton builder for most animations.

I keep forgetting about Sol Blaze. He's been this super ninja working in the background giving Dez awesome animation bases to work with. So, if you're reading this, Sol, "Thanks a buttload for your awesome contribution to the Mel project, man!".

Don't forget that sometimes the kick buttons can give you a punch attack instead just like Balrog/M.bison (the boxer). So, if Yusuke is mainly a punch based fighter, you can make one or two of his kick attacks (close range, far range, whatever...) into punch or energy punch attacks or even something unique that he didn't have in the anime.

Cool! Cinema 4d is slowly becoming more popular and more accepted into the professional field. Please feel free to contact me if you need some assistance or tips in 3d. I don't know Cinema 4d but I can help with more generic 3d tips and stuff. I suggest you get your hands on Zbrush 4r6 (The recent version has a cool tool called Zremesher), Sculptris (which is free from the same guys that make Zbrush). If you ever use After Effects then a cool plugin you could try is Element 3d which allows you to import and use 3d objects. if you're smart you can do some nifty things with it. With Sculptris and/or Zbrush, there is a combination which will make creating low polygon character easier for you which will be easier to rig and animate for your sprites for Mugen.

Anyway, I don't know if you saw this but this is a tutorial I made a while ago  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbhzwm4CoTY

PM me if you ever need some help and I will do what I can to assist you.

Cheers,

Not bad. Yes, 3d is a learning experience. I use Lightwave and have been using it for about 15 years now. What program are you learning?

You will find that there are many ways of 'cheating' when using 3d. Also, you only really need to learn the things just to get the job done.

Finally, many people have ripped 3d models from games. If you want to create an original model and feel a bit lazy then you can take parts of the character and frankenstein it to make your own character. It just a smart way of using 3d.

Good luck with your project.

We're pretty much up to the stage where release of the character is based on Raj and his progress. To be honest, even though Dez is working on Rock as a separate character, there is no guarantee that Raj will code Rock. Raj only agreed to code Mel.
I think that a lot of people would just like Mel released. Rock is just kind of a bonus. I know that Dez has been working hard of Rock's sprites, though, so it would be shame to let them go to waste.

Sorry, Raj, I hope this isn't sounding too much like a guilt trip.  :-X

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. =P

Sorry, actually it isn't obvious. Well, not to me, anyway. What is it I don't know that I'm talking about? We don't really communicate much so I don't know what's going on most of the time. I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ here. I just really am in the dark what you are referring to.

The super is good but you need more impact with the uppercut, the knockdown and the slam at the end. The slam should be massive and should severely crack the earth. This is Superman you are dealing with and when he punches, the Earth cries from the shock! I suggest beefier sounds to the super impacts also maybe some freeze time just at the point of impact. Also, some flashier and intense hitsparks with every massive impact.

You're doing well. Just tweak things for a better flow and maybe add some more custom frames for more fluidity in the moves.

Cheers,
Revanto  ;P
