I'm assuming that you aren't using the data from Fighter Maker 2002 as a basis. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I did not realise I could actually do that. I feel all kinds of stupid now. That really would have made everything a damn load faster. I'll try and do that from now on. I'm glad I checked this thread just before doing a load more work on her. Many thanks!

EDIT: just got FM2002, but I can't open any FIM data with it... Just get an error.
EDIT again: Like really, I can't open anything at all. Not a single file. They're protected aren't they? How did you get in?

Was going to post this as a full game project as that is what it is, but it doesn't feel right to do that until I have at least 2 characters started. So far I have only done work on 1.
I'll get around to doing all 4 characters, I have no stage coding knowledge though and aid in that would be nice. Is there anyone that wants to give converting the screenpack over a go? No way I'll be able to do that.

Screens and vids:

Alligning that Idle was not easy, but it is so worth it.

Alligning that walk was a pain too. Stop being so damn bouncy!

Wow, the first properly drawn pony character for MUGEN! I've waited too long to see something that isn't a load of vectors poorly stuck together, or a bunch of pony-maker doll poses, or a badly made edit to some other character's sprites. Rainbow Dash is going to be one of the very last characters I make (Converted from Fighting is Magic) so that's also a pretty lucky choice you made. The proportions also look pretty much the same as the sprites from that. All we need now is someone to make Fluttershy and we'll have all 6 ponies decently being made in MUGEN.

Also, make a Derpy palette.

Fighter Factory can accept .png and .bmp
What? It claims to accept BMP but that causes severe crashing and breakage if I recall. FF has never accepted PNGs. What are you talking about?

There is probably a faster way, but I use photoshop's automate-batch function. Just record an action of saving the file into another folder in whatever format. Hope it helps.
Thankyou SO MUCH! My program has a batch thingy on it that I just tested out. It works just as I wanted! I'll see about uploading all sprites in PCX format with a proper non-black BG colour and also renamed a bit better than lots of numbers.

Or if you converted all the PNGs into BMPS or PCXs which also takes damn long.

....no it doesn't.
I am currently opening every single file, then resaving it. Doing that to over 800 files. Please PLEASE tell me of the fast way of doing this. I only have Pinkie's idle, walking forwards, and walking back done so far. Once I get an attack done I'll post my progress up on the projects page. Would be nice to see someone else try and make a character from these too, as partners or as rivals. Though I would advise not doing Pinkie unless you really want to be competing with someone.Besides once I am done with her you can yoink the SFF and AIR if you want to make your own. Oh and the SND which is going to be a pain. I am amazed at the variety of sounds. Twilight has about 50 different "ha"s alone.

Someone beat me to it and none of us realised.
But there's no way I would keep it to myself anyway, that's just stupid. Each character has about 800 sprites each, and each one has to be cleaned up after it is exported, and needs to be set up properly for their palette. There is no way they're going to redo all of them just because they were leaked. You're insane if you think they would.
These are pretty much the final product sprites. A few attacks are missing and some may be altered, in which case we just reupload our rips with the new stuff and update everything.

You guys seem to be so damn against this it's unreal. I think I'll abandon this thread now and make my own once I have more than just Pinkie's Idle done. (It looks so great!)

As long as you give me credit for ripping it.
I wish I'd found your post sooner, I really do. Although as I instead wound up ripping these myself, I realised how much effort it was to do. None. Really, you're going to ask for credit because you dragged a file onto a .exe? You did no real work other than uploading it all. That was nice, but not deserving of credit as a ripper.

Unless you also went to the trouble of renaming every single sprite and sound to make what each one is be more clear, in which case you do deserve credit because that takes ages. Or if you converted all the PNGs into BMPS or PCXs which also takes damn long. Did you do either of those?

as fellow fans of the show, it's like disrespecting them if we rip it now,
It really really isn't. I am a fan of all the games I've ripped sprites from. It's because I want to see them brought out into the open more, revived sort of. For a game not even out yet that logic does not work though, and my only reason with this is simply that Mugen is better in every way to Fighter Maker. It's what we Mugeneers do, it's so hypocritical to start saying this game is off limits. They won't be affected even slightly by what we do anyway, unless my port somehow becomes more popular which is not likely unless Elecbyte release online play soon.
I feel a tad stupid for not thinking to simply google "FM2K ripper". I'll get on with that and hopefully have enough done to make a video soon.
I'll also upload the sprites for others to use. I wonder if anyone'll use them in a Flash movie.

EDIT: Googling "FM2K ripper" actually has this thread as it's top result. I cannot find a ripping tool of any sort yet. Oh wait, here's one.

AW YEAH! This is only a taste of the power I now possess!

It's just annoying knowing I could have done lots of work on it today if only I had the sprites (that's a lie, I probably still would have spent all day playing games).
I don't know how to get the sprites though. All I have is someone saying it can be done, not how to do it.
Whilst I wait for that knowledge, anyone got any move ideas? I'll go for game accuracy first, finish them off, release them, but then I want to MUGEN the heck out of them and give them 60 supers and such. I'm not a good animator, but I should be able to do some fairly simple moves. Giving any of the 4 a Shun Goku Satsu for example, I could do without any loss in animation quality. But I won't give them that move as it's overused and lame now... Unless I can think of a creative/funny/badass way of doing it.

If we wait for the final thing, then the mugenised stuff will take longer. If they add more moves to the characters later, rip the sprites later too then add to the stuff already finished. There is no reason to waste time. Besides, they really don't care about the leak anymore. We aren't being respectful by waiting, just stupid.
I've been playing the leaked game a lot lately and it's making me want to start this Mugen project more and more. So many things they could have added but didn't, I need to make these things! So quit stalling guys.

The only part of this that would be time consuming is the ripping, or so I thought. If I worked my hardest I could do a character a day now. Of course I am likely to get lazy and not work that hard, but there is no reason I can't do the entire game. I will be doing 1 character at a time and others here will likely try to do the others once the sprites are out. If theirs is good enough, or if they are working with me to keep them accurate to the proper game, then that will save me a lot of time. Stages I will have to completely leave to someone else.
I'm not planning too far ahead, I won't get discouraged. This is going to be a simple project. Also I apolagise to Seth for pretty much taking over this thread.

If there's a team of guys doing this already who want to join me, or that I can join, let me know. It'd be silly to have multiple attempts at this going on. SFFs and AIRs will be free for people to use after I first get the ripped sprites. I hope to see people eventually make their own pony characters for this once this is done, preferably not just recolours.

EDIT: I have full respect for Mane6 and I wish they'd let me give them my money. This is not me trying to say "Hey I just made your game pretty much on my own and it took me no time at all and it's actually less buggy. You should have listened to me in the first place and used Mugen, and you also should have hired me to work on the game.". Well I might be saying that a bit, because I was pretty darn close to actually being on their team, maybe. That's pretty frustrating. But what they've managed to do with their crappy Fighter Maker is impressive, and their constant striving for perfection is admirable. I really hope a project like this won't upset them. They seem to be over all the leak drama now though for the most part and I doubt they'd mind having their sprites ripped. They were going to get ripped during the proper alpha release anyway afterall.

EDIT2: I forgot they mention this.

Q: Can I port it into MUGEN?
A: Not sure that porting from Fighter Maker 2002 to MUGEN is possible, from a technical standpoint; At least not without lowering the quality significantly. It isn’t something we’re too keen on, either, considering High Quality is something we hold as one of our three primary goals. (Good. Fun. Freeware, in case you wonder). We’ve also mentioned it before, both in this FAQ and elsewhere. Crossovers with other franchises (which would, really, be the main idea of MUGEN ports) isn’t something we ever planned for.
So long as there's a good screenpack coder around, I see no reason we can't make it looks exactly the same. They clearly aren't well educated in Mugenry if they think the quality needs to be lowered.

There's no such thing as too soon, it just means someone else will get the sprite ripping credit. But I am glad to hear there's an easy way of getting the sprite data, was worried I'd have to print screen a hell of a lot.
I am starting work on a Mugen port of the game (without all the bugs) and if the sounds can be ripped just as easily then I should have the entire thing done in only a few weeks.
Wondering why I would port the game to Mugen? I want to see people make Evil Fluttershys and Shin Twilights. Haha no, I want to see the decent animators get the chance to make characters too. Also once Mugen gets online mode, my port will be totally superior, for now that is the only weakness of Mugen.

So can someone point me to the ripping tool or start ripping it themselves? And any decent coder that wishes to code alongside me can too. I call dibs on coding Pinkie Pie though.

I just did MC Supercut's Down Foward C attack. He just summoned a HUGE version of himself...It is only when this big one comes out that Z and X do anything (excluding the canceling which does work fine). But they only make noises and nothing actually changes. His taunt just makes him flash. His moves during the backdash are way too hard to do the instant versions of.

Okay next character, Zppr. His super making stuff shoot out of the ground move misses when the opponent is standing right next to him. His taunt makes him go invisible.

3rd char, Decimal. Her down forward B move's extra hit can't be used after the first 2 hits? Hex is fine. Her super move where you have to button mash, how far can it go to? I got to 17 hits, and 18 hits with the non super version. Her taunt is also broken.

The instructions for their moves list the directions as numbers...I know some of them are using binary style but WHAT? Please write the correct directional buttons.

I gotta say, I am rather dissapointed overall. The videos made this game looks so nearly finished and amazing. The characters do play well and are awesome, but I am surprised at just how little you have released in this. But I hope some of this helps and that you do release more characters and styles soon, I am still so eager to play this game with all teh content.

EDIT: win and lose anims are in need of fixing too.

Anyway I think this is a good idea Pots. Glad you are not giving into the people that seem to hate his voice and appearance. Really it's like they never a read a word about you keeping the chars the same, just improved.
I am happy with the changes you have mentioned so far and hope to see the two more balanced against each other and with more winposes, intros and such. And at least 1 team pose.
Good luck and this is sounding more awesome the more I hear about it.

Oh and I liked the idea about only having the random MSSM (no idea what that even stands for) work with low health. But for them to still work on the 3rd super at normal HP too.

You're fixing the sprite.
What? No that's converting it into PCX.

And anyway, there's not just the palette, there are reports here and there about the SFF file itself getting corrupted occasionally
there are topics where people tried to insert some sprites and got a corrupted SFF as a result
I don't know anything about corrupted SFFs, never had one before. And it's true that I don't browse topics for people with this type of problem often, but I've used FF for far too long to never have a single problem of my own if it's as buggy as you make it sound.
But you're determined to beleive that FF can't convert correctly (which I still think is because you think I am talking about importing a BMP into the SFF) and I don't think I could do anything to convince you otherwise so I shall stop trying to.

But, a couple of years ago you had a problem with your character not loading due to one sprite you'd done this with?
Wow you remembered! Or looked up my older posts...

You HAVE had an issue using this tool and you had no real idea how to fix it.
I actually posted exactly how I had fixed my problem. It wasn't a sprite error at all so of course it'd work for you or anyone else, the sprites were fine. The bug came from the Elecbyte template. FF is a great converter and has never given me problems. After the posts I've seen here I have very little doubt most errors that FF is meant to have are just the user's fault or something else entirely.

Also to be more on-topic, PCX>BMP. Don't ever import a BMP into FF. I forget what it does as it's been so long since I did it last, but I remember it was really bad.

The SFF can't actually hold a BMP image (god knows why VTek even decided to allow BMPs), so if you import a BMP, FF converts it. So when I said the conversion is done badly, what exactly did you think I mean ? Because there's nothing else.
So I was right, you were talking about importing a BMP into the SFF! I was talking about converting them properly using the palette editor which I did mention in one of my posts. I even linked to a tutorial on it!

Do you need glasses ? It was said several times in this topic that FF can fuck up the conversion. Go LOOK at the occasions where it HAS happened. It hasn't happened to you ? You're lucky. But it still fucks up occasionally. Don't say it doesn't when someone tells you it has happened to him.
Yes I do need glasses when looking at something far away. It is not said anywhere but by frederika that the convertion messes up. Or if your post above did say that then I assumed you were talking about importing BMPs into teh SFF and so I had no idea what you were talking about.
Besides I never once said it does not mess up or never messed up for those people, I only said I won't believe it 'til I see it happen to myself. Because for all I know it could be them messing up or using faulty sprites.

Quote
You never said how it was better...
So basically it's better because it does not screw up ever? As no-oen answered the question directly I'll just assume that.
