Hm, I don't understand the purpose of this topic too much. But then I see the little quote under your avatar and consider I've not been following as much, I assume you've been spriting for money? lol

For the system, what would this ultimately achieve? Obviously it's to discourage turtling, but what if they continue turtling?

I know, I know, I just prefer the simplicity. I'm too old to figure out stuff. :P

Highly recommend Paint.NET

It's got simple interface and advanced tools. I personally found GIMP overwhelming (back in 2008, never touched it since).

Or, you could play as normal Goku in round 1, and when you win, you'd be playing as SSJ Goku in round 2 and upwards.
I don't know if this is possible?

Using roundstate/roundno I don't see why it isn't possible. Only issue you'd have here is covering all possibilites if some guy out there has 9 rounds, or more, etc (if it even supports more).

In a SF/KOF character case, a transformation would probably serve as an extra mode instead for the character, similar to Guilty Gear's "EX" characters. But of course this time with a sprite/pallete swap. They don't necessarily need to be powered up, but just play a little or completely different.

G.o.D so forced character selection is still not a MUGEN feature and it relies on an external tool. What a shame. Otherwise creating a story mode would be a lot more fun/idea.

---

I recharged my PSP to have a quick go on Shin Budokai 2, and man the buttons on the PSP makes it hard to perform a cancel to further chain combos. More so, I can't seem to, without any advanced tricks, combo any of my special attacks to my usual attack. I don't understand this system.

---

I'm just dabbling here for a game I am working on (vaporware since 2004!) but I would like to still bring it to surface soon. I've written some ideas down but haven't completed them yet, will throw them on here soon.

Not sure if it's just my monitor or me but the font makes the text hard to read for some reason. It's like I can't focus on the text initially and it takes a tiny bit of readjustment. Or maybe it's the colour.

Other than that everything else seems to be the same so really no complaints except to get used to it.

Was a minor shock but then I thought, mweh, I'm too old.

I see, thanks for the information you 2.

I can't call it an ideal system, but what would ideally be a good system overall in the concept of MUGEN and/or future DBZ games.

Currently as we know it, it's all a bit pointless. On Page 1-2 me, cyanide and Xgargoyle list several possiblities for what can be done for a transforming system.

The point is as stands:

Budokai 1 introduced the transforming in a retail DBZ game
The system was pointless as nothing except energy drain and attack power increased
You were forced to keep recharging or play an offensive playstyle to retain the energy/transformation (attacking/landing hits = recharges energy)

This, in theory, worked, your gameplay changed, but if your opponent turtles, then you'd go dry and leave yourself open

Budokai 3 expanded on the system by adding a base level of power you will retain. But this rendered the system useless to a degree. You have even more power to play with, but it didn't create much change aside from being harder to dizzy and turn back to normal. Sure, you were stronger, but you were also stronger with no drawbacks.

Now, in a MUGEN match, you have your usual rounds/60 or 90 second rounds. This in the DBZ universe is too short. But scrap that system, and think of it in a game term where there's only 1 round, and you have a large amount of health.

We cannot tier our characters (canon wise any main saiyan can knock out any none saiyan, more or less), but yet we need some form of balance for such a system. Against a none transformable character, ideally the one that can transform will start out relatively weaker, but still balanced out to not be at a disadvantage.

Some guy said that transforming is not the essence of DBZ on that other thread. I'm sorry man but judging from what fanboys want, it is. You can't argue it. (Overall, the concept is still fun. Hold back to a certain level if possible, if not, unshackle yourself and go whoop ass - examples of this can be seen in:

Goku vs Metal Cooler - he was forced to transform
SSJ2 Goku vs Kid Buu - he realised buu is that deadly, although in manga he went SSJ3 right away
Gotenks vs Super Buu - he wanted to show off at the last moment
Piccolo vs Freeza - he had to take off his heavy clothing, that counts in my opinion...
even Goku vs Freeza, he held back from using Kaioken at all, but although it was later revealed he was fighting in Kaioken x10, but for some reason it was omitted until King Kai mentions it, a bit odd.
SSJ Goku vs Cell - the warm up episode before the full power fight

All in all, the marks of badassery is there, and the possibility of achievements/bragging rights exist for players "hah, I beat you using base mode!!!" And the thought of trying to win with minimal force became some sort of tradition)

I infact found Shin Budokai rather dull because you can only pick one transformation to go with in your fight. Sure, going beyond SSJ1, etc (or 2, as he said) was dumb but they had to do what they had to do for story purposes.

A full DBZ emulator is not possible, ever, because how DBZ works/fights is entirely up to a fan's fantasy. I recalled watching a Tenkaichi match video (tournament) and it really didn't look fun at all. Despite those games being as close as you can get to a DBZ simulator in a 3D environment (as I kept being told), I just didn't feel it. Making one in MUGEN is even worst, as we're stuck with a 2D environment.

I directed people here to see if we can toy with any more ideas (since the discussion seems to be hot there) that I might have missed or overlooked. The end goal is to try and make some sort of a system out of it, but it's not going to be perfect, ever, and there will always be 2 sides (or more) to the argument.

Understood, I was aware that it wasn't meant to be a DBZ char. I guess the discussion got blown out of proportion just because it's a DBZ char.

But isn't the character already none-SSJ? I mean, I downloaded this char a few months back (the "final" version). At the moment, you're just improving it, correct? I was aware of a SSJ3 as a winpose. I forgot when the thread was updated but I'm not aware of the current "version 2" changes/features that are being implemented, or is this a seperate character to contrast the original Goku Z2?

Unfortunately for the Budokai system it only worked 50% of the time. What I mean there is that I feel the 2 moves you get doesn't tie in much with the gameplay, or so it seems. Aside from some combos hitting somewhat differently (i.e. starters/launchers) the whole game feels like one big massive pallete swap.

In Budokai 1, 2 and 3, you could perform a PPPP or KKKK combo ending with a Kamehameha. In Shin Budokai, they seemed to have eliminated the system so you can't chain into it (that I can remember, I might be wrong). For what reason I don't know, but for now they seem to be moves you can try to catch your opponent offguard?

It would work well within the system if the gameplay provided somewhat more different gameplay. Overall the combo system (which relies heavily on cancels) isn't a good indication of the game's depth. I've not seen a competitive video either where it isn't 2 retards spamming Kamehamehas.

A few exceptions, however. I forget which characters, but I think Adult Gohan and Future Trunks (and maybe one of the Super Buus) allowed for different gameplay once transformed. Both of these characters have a block counter, making attacking them somewhat dangerous and/or involving mind games. Transforming on one of them gets rid of the attack, and I guess turns them into a more offensive approach.

G.o.D as I've brought you here from GokuZ2's thread, what's the deal with the SSJ mode there? I didn't completely read the thread, only the last few pages, I wasn't sure what people are complainin about.

A few ways, but it seems your knowledge of image software is limited.

So the most basic thing you can do is:

Open paint from start menu
Open the image you want (the jpg)
Go to File, Save As
Before saving, in the box "save file as type" select bmp

Back up and reformat.

All these things people try to tell you to do would only slow it down even more if you do not know how to use and optimise a PC correctly.

It's actually interesting to see the reaction/results coming from that snippet of "advice" across various forums lol :grin3:

Of course no one is right or wrong. However, judging from the first page of replies I already predicted it'd generate this particular response, as the tone was set from the begininng, hence my "late to the party" thing.  :wiseguy:

Regardless, it was a snippet off Craigslist that I came across :P

Try this, if a bit late into the party:

Quote
You can smell it coming. Your paramour has left an ominous message on your voicemail. S/he wants to talk. Perhaps you have been invited to meet him somewhere public. Maybe she's cancelled a date, and is meeting you at your place instead. But you're not an idiot and you can anticipate what's next: your ass is about to get dumped. C'est la vie.

Here is your foolproof guide to navigating your breakup. Follow these simple directions and I can guarantee a minimum of stress and heartbreak. If you desire, this technique will ensure your probability of reconciliation is maximized. Want her back? Listen well:

1. On the day you get the news, listen very calmly. Say as little as possible. You will probably hear some BS like, "It's not you - it's me" or "I just need some space for a while" or "let's still be friends"... blah blah blah. Do not argue. Accept everything s/he says. S/he may become emotional. Make no move to comfort him or her. When s/he has finished, do not linger. Say goodbye and leave. If you are in your own home, show him or her the door. A chaste hug is OK, but under NO circumstances should you offer or accept a goodbye kiss, a final quickie, or any of that shit. If you're at a restaurant, do not hang around to split the tab: guys - pay the bill and leave. Ladies - just bail. There is no need to be sterile or brusque, by all means be courteous and kind. Understanding even. But wait until your (now) ex is out of earshot to cry like a bitch.

If you get the news over the phone (ouch), the same rules apply. Just hang up.

If you get a voice/email message, DO NOT respond. Chances are a relationship that ends electronically can't be salvaged, but don't make things worse by taking the bait.

2. The bad news is, this is the hard part. The good news is, this is the part of the Ultimate Guide to Breakups over which you have the most control. It is the centerpiece of the method, and your stamina during this phase will determine your success later on. Want the secret? Here is is:

DO NOTHING.

At first you will be sad. Possibly very sad. Get out of the house. Distract yourself. Hang out with your friends - preferably the ones your ex doesn't know too well, because s/he will be checking up on you. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you contact your ex. For anything.

Chances are after a few days s/he will contact you, "just to see how you're doing." Do not respond. Let it go to voicemail. Don't call back. Delete the email. It's that simple. It'll be hard, but hang in there. Don't let your curiosity get the best of you. You are under no obligation to respond to someone who has kicked you to the curb.

Maybe you've been together for a while and s/he has left personal items in your home. This is the only circumstance under which it's ok to respond. Wait at least 24 hours before you reply. Tell your ex that you will FedEx his/her stuff. Pay for the fastest method you can afford. If s/he insists upon picking it up, leave it someplace safe and make sure you're NOT there when s/he arrives. Make your interaction courteous and brief. Get off the phone as quickly as possible.

If you do not receive a call within a month, you probably won't get a call until s/he drunk dials you many years from now. Move on.

The sooner s/he calls you after dumping you, however, the better your chances are for reconciliation. Again, do not call back. Stay tough. You are now in control of the situation.

3. The sooner the first post-breakup call comes, the more calls/texts/emails you will likely receive. DO NOT RESPOND to any of them... yet. In these modern times you may also be privy to his/her evocative facebook updates, blog posts, reality TV show episodes, whathaveyou. Make no contact. If you absolutely must be in the same place at the same time, try to look fit and happy and surrounded yourself with people s/he doesn't know.

Right around this time (unless you were dumped for someone else) your ex is beginning to experience the downside of singleness. S/he may be feeling lonely and horny, and start wondering if s/he made the right choice. That is exactly what you want. Let him/her fucking stew in it. Your patience will be rewarded.

4. By now, your ex is curious about you. Maybe s/he's even been seeing some new people. But the fact that you have made a clean break with such poise will be a blow to the ego. Remember, the opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is indifference. S/he will be thinking, "Was I really so easy to get over?" and "Gee - maybe it really WAS me." If you've done this right, you will receive a call (or email) inviting you to "hang out." Perhaps the tone will be casual, perhaps it will be desperate. Either way, congratulations for getting this far. The ball is now in your court.

5. Proceed carefully from here. Eagerness could lead to a booty call, but little more. Ask yourself: what do I want? If you want to resume a relationship, wait 48-72 hours before responding. Say you're unavailable at the time your ex suggests, but recommend another meeting time at least a week in the future. You name the place. From here on out, everything is on your terms.

6. Let nature take its course. If your ex is ready to give it another shot, s/he will be dressed like it's a first date. If the sexual tension is palpable, you may choose to knock boots and sort out the details in the sticky afterglow. If you can contain yourself, feign trepidation and ask him/her to meet you again - also in a place you select. Build anticipation. Make him/her work for it. If executed correctly, your ex will be so grateful to have you back s/he will be on his/her very best behavior, possibly for years to come.

7. Repeat as necessary.
