The different versions all fix some bugs some way or another and adds a few new things to each of the games. Also it is used in competitive play a lot and I can only guess the developers want to make it as perfect/balanced as possible to promote more play.

The games did not get worst and worst (in a way), but only to make it more fair and balanced. It was annoying to see 20 people using Sol in the first GGXX all because of the Dust Loop "bug". Now the current game plenty of people participate with different characters, giving it a variety. The menus/interface all looks a bit better per game too.

Or the developers are lazy and can't think of a story to add on to it ... ::)

Do you know how to put a song you want into a stage first?

Hm, well it's nice, but I just can't help thinking they all probably play the same and only have unique moves (as with number 2). But the thought of characters that fought for like less than 5 mins (half an episode?). My horrible thought is meant in the way that there's just so many characters and I doubt many of them are too different from each other. Caters to the story/fan side of things I though I guess, which is indeed awesome.

Well you could have:

stage1a.def
stage1b.def
stage1c.def

and so on ...

Each of the stages being the same stage but with a different background music. (Where "stage" is the name of your stage, i.e. CvS2Londona ... CvS2Londonb)

If you have random stages for all characters, then it will truely be random. I don't know about adding a "#" so it's best to stick with something simple like I mentioned above to stop MUGEN throwing up errors. Some people like to have stages assigned to characters, so it can't be randomed there.

There are plenty of ways I could think of, but then you'll be required to embed tracks into characters and modify them and such and each character would probably grow 200mb in size by the end of it.

all i wanted was to make it so mugen plays songs from a list at random etc.
and i got a couple of good ones (screw rap and emo), one winged angel (its a must, i got ff7 AC cloud) , disturbed, demon hunter, cradle of filth, within temptation, and good ole static x.

Then, in that case, it would basically be impossible. Each stage is assigned one music track only. Your one solution would be to have multiple copies of the same stages each assigned a music track.

Crisis core?

Eh I already bought the Crisis Core PSP that came along with the game.

This game is ok because for one I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO READ JAPANESE!!!

This is by far the DUMBEST thing I have ever done in life.

By the way if you want to see how its like I've already posted myself playing Crisis Core the whole game on Youtube.  :sugoi:

You got by far the best looking damn box art I've seen in a long time. That limited edition box art for the game absolutely leaks of "awesome". I'd say you made a good choice.

Even as a fan of rap, I have to agree that most don't make for good fight music.

Don't say all, because that means you haven't heard enough rap.

No of course not, I just meant it in the IF in the context of 99% of the track is rap. A bunch is fine, but not 99% of it.

There is no soundtrack tutorial. A soundtrack can be:

1. A selection of premade music all compiled into a "package" (i.e. games, movies)

or

2. A selection of music you made yourself compiled into the game/movie.

What you really need to do is, if you're going for #1 is:

Find a big range of music/songs (preferably with permission and/or have it shortened and quality reduced. I am assuming you're doing this for private use)
Fit them into parts of your game.
Make sure you pick a variety of songs/background music. This should fit to parts of your game, i.e. character's stages music, opening themes, ending themes, character select themes.*

*This does NOT mean you can go and ravage your favourite CD of rap, rap, rap, rap, emo, rap, rap, emo, emo, emo tracks. Too many times have I downloaded games and it's nothing but that for every single fucking bit of the "game".

Official character themes are OK, but it's up to you. (i.e. if you have Ryu, you can use Ryu's theme from ... Street Fighter Alpha 3). Completely up to you.

Now if you choose to go #2, you will have to -make- your own music which is completely different from making the soundtrack. Only once you have made your music it will be possible to make your own soundtrack. Don't know if you have the resources to do so though.

Some other guidelines to help you:

Keep it simple
Don't overlook at what you can do (i.e. 20 characters)
Work out some sort of a system you'd like to do, again, within your limitations (time, knowledge)
Simple storyline (not essential, but if you want a full game feel, but fighting games generally have simple storylines on the shallow end and until developer/people release more material, the characters are generally not known a lot)

Sooo. If you want some form of an example: (this is all randomly pulled out of my head)

Name: Street Fighter 4
Number of Characters: 6 (remember, start low, then expand if possible, i.e. you got the time or ideas)
Characters: Ryu, Ken, Chunli, William, Gouki, (? ? ?) ; (? ? ? = Boss/Secret Character)
Stages: 6 or 7 (1 per char, 1 bonus maybe)
Plot: Gouki got horny, raped Ryu and Ken's girlfriend and is planning a nuclear strike on China. William (Guile ;P) gets involved. Chunli wants to stop Gouki. Ken and Ryu are after Gouki but are unaware of the nuclear strike on China.

Other guidelines:

Remember 1 character is a bit of work already. More doesn't help. Try to work on 1 at a time.
Make a "base" character first to use for all your other characters. Remember that this isn't 6 random characters thrown together, it should be, as [E] pointed out, consistent in a way. If you are unsure what I mean, for example each character should have 3 "power bars" and each super should use the same number of power bars.
Again, keep it simple.

Free Style.

Now that I think about it....they haven't announced Future Gohan..but damn, he should be in.

I mean, he's playable in DBZ Shin Budokai 2: Another Road, complete with a "What if" SSJ mode and even a "Saikyo no Senshi"/post Kaiohshin training powered up mode...honestly, WHO CARES ABOUT SPOPOBITCH?!

Was Future Gohan not in Budokai 3 ... ??

* LadyKiKi thinks.

EDIT: Crap you're right. Come to think of it, I haven't really played Tenkaichi 1 or 2, but was F.Gohan in it? Otherwise, I agree, who cares about (the minor characters) SPOPOBITCH ...?

Oh, he could turn SSJ in the future before the Androids vapourised him. The "What if" bits come with the modes after SSJ. :P

Blah, 25 new characters? :XD:

I consider the ones, like "weak" characters or story only characters that don't fight as much, NPCs (None-Playable-Characters).

Budokai 1, 2 and 3 are repetitive, up to a point. Budokai 1 and 2 are basically dial-a-combo with a movie. Every character will have a variation of such a "movie" attack. It's not that much varied either and the names did suck. Although I did laugh at the people who really thought it was unique to that character.

Budokai 3 eliminated that, but in turn placed Dragon Rush into the fray. I've said many times before, take out Dragon Rush and you have a pretty nice game. Then add tactical playing into it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5WsXP-YCxY

The possibility to play mind games and then unleash a chain of devestating combos idea quite appeals to me, rather than the old-standard play of: Charge to Full Power --> unleash attack, teleport x4. Or, Hyper Mode --> Dragon Rush 'em. End it with ultimate. Etc.

Anyways ...

I'd suggest html manuals. Make it colourful and less boring to read, complete with pics.
