I didn't say that buildings don't go straight down during controlled demolition I said that those buildings where designed with demolition in mind. Try using control demolition in the Sears tower and empire state building. You wouldn't get those buildings in one try.
In my class we looked at the design and my teacher went through showing how they were built and ways that they could have been build to withstand the impact and fire of those planes.
Also the planes happen to hit one of the few areas that would have caused that type of destruction that we all saw. about three quarters up. With the fire and the impact caused the steel to heat up and then twist and bend so one floor collapses completly into another. Then just like it was designed to do for easy demolition the pancaking effect to place.
If the plane was higher it wouldn't have happend at all. There would have just been a big fire but because serveral floors where above the one that collapsed and the impacting weight caused each and every floor to buckle one at a time causeing a slow collapse that built up speed and by the end was going fast like a freight train.
