Every 3DS assist trophy.



Barbara, Jill, and Mr. Resetti assists from Brawl are gone, among a few others.  Couple of new ones we haven't seen before including Starman and the Pac-Man ghosts.  Ashley is notably absent; She might be a Wii U exclusive assist.

Yeah, his throw's got this thing where it whiffs if he's too close to the opponent.  Which is super weird for a throw in a fighting game.

His down B is great, though.  It takes a bit to set up, but it hits like a fucking truck once it connects.

They're really making a big deal out of Danny, that's for sure.  What worries me is that they're tying him so closely to Clara, and if Coleman is really leaving the show this Christmas all of that buildup will be for nothing.

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but it looks like now you can interrupt assist trophies by attacking them.  I haven't encountered all of them, but I've been able to prevent Dark Samus, Girahim, and Elec Man from attacking by wailing on them until they disappeared.

Here's all the Final Smashes in action.



Noticing a few changes, aside from the big ones like the veterans who have completely new ones.  Ness' PK Starstorm is now a concentrated stream of meteors instead of randomly spaced ones.  Looks a lot easier to hit with.  Peach's now drops 3 huge peaches instead of a bunch of regular ones.  Jigglypuff's looks like it makes her puff up a lot bigger than it used to.

Do you realize you just complained about Ridley, like, 6 separate times in the same sentence?  Are you even listening to yourself?  The game is bigger than one character that you specifically asked for.  Hell, my favorite character from Brawl got cut and none of the characters I was really hoping to see made it in, but you don't see me moaning about it.

I really don't think having a trophy disqualifies anyone from being potential future DLC.  I remember them saying that they built the game without any plans for DLC not because they didn't want to make any, but because they wanted to make a complete game first and then think about what they could add to it via DLC.  So it's not like they were sitting around thinking "well, we're never putting so-and-so into the game, let's make a trophy."  We could still see Dixie or Mewtwo or whoever down the line.

Though I get the feeling that any future DLC is going to begin with characters that they had already started but never ended up finishing.  I'll bet you anything that if they do have character DLC, Chrom's going to be one of the first.

So!  First impressions.

- Hot diggety, this game looks pretty running at 60 FPS.  Like, DAMN.
- Control scheme took a little getting used to.  My thumb instinctively wants the 3DS A button to be the jump button, and it's kind of hard to unlearn that.
- Villager's Up B is the most broken recovery in Smash history.  It's literally Balloon Fight rules:  Mash B for unlimited vertical lift, plus left-right control for like 4 whole seconds.  Other than that I like him.  His Final Smash is very easy to miss, though.
- Mega Man is... weird?  All of his A attacks feel like special attacks.  It's tough to get used to.  He feels like he's got a lot of tools at his disposal, but it'll take some work to actually learn how to use them.

In all:  Believe the hype.  This game rules.  Can't wait to throw my money at the full version.

Five Nights at Freddy's isn't a very scary game to watch, at all, but when you're playing it yourself it's actually a really competent horror title.  It hits all the right benchmarks for really good horror game design: quiet tension, vague dangers that leave the very worst of it up to the player's imagination, and above all creating a feeling of feeling of utter and total disempowerment.  I wish the internet hadn't turned the game into such a stupid fucking meme because it deserves to be taken more seriously than it is, I think.

Although I have no idea how he plans to make a sequel to it.  It'll have to be a completely different game than the original, because he did literally everything he possibly could with the gameplay in the first.
