VERY big file, but I the stage itself is really awesome. Reminds me of the version of Final Destination in Brawl somehow.

Okay, so I'm calling it a Beta but I suppose it'd be better to call it an Alpha. I'm mostly releasing this one to get feedback on what to improve, what kind of bugs there are, and what needs changing. The falling and hit animations are a bit buggy, but everything else seems mostly okay. I'd like to see what everyone else thinks, though.

All right, I don't seem to be able to make sounds play. For instance, my introduction code is here and I've made his introductory sound group 1, sound 1. Problem is, it doesn't play the sound. Is there something wrong with the code?

Yeah, your replies came a little late. I've figured out what went wrong already. However, I have a new problem. This time, I want to try summoning a helper in midair, but the helper that I've summoned kind of... flickers. I don't really have a better way to describe it other than that the sprite occasionally disappears while it's out. Sorry about all these questions, but I really want to get a beta out the door fairly soon.

Thanks again. I seem to have an error in my helper code that makes it so that although my character makes the "summon helper" pose, the helper never actually appears. By that, I mean that nothing happens: the helper isn't invisible, it isn't there. Here's my code. StateDef 302 is the helper summon, 20000 is the state of my helper

All right, so my dedede project has hit another snag; this time sprite related. I need a few effects that I can't seem to find on my own.

From Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland and related games:

- Waddle doo beam attack (I have individual sparks but I'm not sure how to construct it and I want the beam to be as close to the game as possible)

- Star (You know the stars that are created whenever Dedede lands his hammer? Or the ones when kirby spits an enemy out? Or the ones created by several enemies? Or... yeah, you get the point. They come out a lot of times, and I can't find one of them. )

I's nice to see that there's going to be a new version of him. But-

First of all, the Waddle Dee needs to be bigger. Also could you make it so that he's throwing it?

Well, I could change its sprite to a giant waddle dee, I suppose, but that won't work for all his summons. I'll try to get bigger summons for at least the ones that attack by running into the enemy. Secondly, he doesn't have a throwing sprite. I would make it myself but I suck at spriting, so unless someone decides to make it for me I won't bother. Finally, what's wrong with calling them, anyway?

I did make some changes to him so that he's properly aligned. This is what he looks like calling waddle dees now. No more looking like he's vomiting up his minions! Also, his sprite isn't going through the floor anymore, which is good.

Hey, so I've coded in a waddle dee helper now, and set it so that it's deployable with a single button (trust me, it'll make sense once I complete him). So, I have 2 questions. How can I make it so that you can only summon one at a time, and how can you make it so that they don't appear by rushing in from the edge of the screen (i.e. they "appear", do their thing, and "disappear")

Add him something special. Don't use regural hitsparks use the one from the game.

Like I said, it's a WIP. I'll see what I can do about the hitsparks

What sprites are these? SNES, GBA, or DS?

Also do you need a SSBB soundpack of Dedede?

1. I'm mostly using the sprites from the newly released Kirby Super Star Ultra for DS, but this Dedede's sprites remained mostly unchanged from the GBA game Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland. Yes, they re-used sprites across a handheld generation. It's good news for me, though, because I have that many more sprites to choose from.

2. I'm not currently in possession of one, so yes, please.

quick question was dedede always able to spit out waddle dee's?? LOL or did he really throw them at you like in brawl?

He only threw them in Brawl. BTW, even though it looks like it, Dedede's really just screaming for a waddle dee to come over, not spitting them out. I realized it looked that way in stills after I took the screenshot.

By the way, by axis, do you mean the cross thing in Fighter Factory? Because I put that at the center.

his sprites look smooth cause his mugen is using double res 2.

also your character is misaligned. the axis on the SFF is the FLOOR, the line that extends left to right is the floor.

if you need a beta tester be sure to ask.

Yeah, thanks. As for the comment about "derailing" the topic, I'd much rather have criticism than empty praise. The hammer attack is supposed to be a little high off the ground since he's jumping, but everything else I'll look into.

Well, I'm planning on one of his super moves being Kracko and, if I can actually program it, a Waddle Dee rush. If you've played Super Star Ultra, you'll know that the masked dedede can use a missile from his hammer, which should work as a projectile move. Knuckle Joe will perform a few attacks as well, including an uppercut. That's all I'm going to reveal for now, and it's probably going to change.

So, for a few days now I've been working on my first character. I've hit a few snags, but progress has mostly been going smoothly and it'll be released... well, when it's done. It's a bit ambitious for a first character, but I think I can handle it.

I was inspired to make Dedede after being frustrated with my attempts to find a good one. It seems everyone's been making Kirbies, and Meta Knight's not that hard to find, but Dedede? I've managed to find one that was very underwheming. Because I'm no good at spriting, Dedede won't be doing all of his attacks himself. Instead, many of his moves will be pulled off by partners. So, it's not much like he was in Brawl or his own game, but I think by taking a few liberties I can give him a much better moveset since his sprite sheet's so limited otherwise. All Dedede's hammer attacks will be assigned to the punch buttons, and all his summons will be assigned to the kick buttons. The Dedede sprites are based off of his sprites from Kirby Super Star Ultra, including a few from the masked Dedede set.

Current progress:

- Standing, walking, dashing, jumping, and taunt animations completed.
- Light punch finished (hammer swing)
- First summon: Waddle dee

By next update I hope to have:

- All 6 one-button attack moves (3 hammer moves, 3 summons)

All right, I've edited the topic title because I figured that it'd be much easier to keep my questions in one topic. So, I want my character to have helpers but I'm not sure how to add them. Do they have to share a pallete with my main character? Because I'm planning to make him summon quite a few enemies since he has a limited sprite set.

try comparing the png I uploaded to teh one you had and see the differences. What I did was just decrease teh color depth to 256 colors. But instead of usnig adobe stuff I use a program that is specific for sprite editing.

Which program was that? Would it matter which one I used in any case? Because if I applied that pallete to my other sprites I want it to show up the same. In any case, thanks for your help and thanks for being patient with me.

EDIT: Nevermind, tried it with photoshop and it worked fine. Thanks so much for the help, everyone.
