Any ideas about the main villain? I personally would like to see a MUGEN Tabuu, even if he's just like, the second-to-last boss. Then again, there aren't too many sprites of him, are there?

How about each franchise have their own villain? E.g. Mario- Bowser. Sonic- Eggman, etc. BTW, if you need me to do anything feel free to PM me.

"What's this?" you ask. "But Sapphire, I thought you were working on Dedede? Are you telling me you haven't even finished your first character and you're already working on a second?" Right you are! Now that my Dedede's nearly complete (except for a few annoying bugs and some sounds) I thought it was time to take on a second WIP. This struck me like a bolt of lightning: Ridley is probably one of the coolest video game monsters of all time and a personal favorite of mine, yet no one has bothered making a Ridley character. This changes right now. 

Don't worry, I don't intend to abandon Dedede, this is just a little side project and since he doesn't have quite so many attacks (or helpers. Whew), development on Ridley should proceed more smoothly.

Ridley is a character that spends all its time in the air and has power comparable to Gill or Akuma. He's intended to be a tough fight, yet I'm sure all you MUGEN experts can beat him, right? Onto the screenshots!



Ridley versus Ridley. I know I'm not using the Super Metroid sprites, and there's a reason for that. As awesome a game as Super Metroid was, its Ridley sprites were really awkward for MUGEN and didn't have many poses. I know it's really nostalgic, but I think it's for the best that I use the more recent Zero Mission Sprites



Where would Ridley be without his fireballs? Okay, still kicking ass, sure, but he wouldn't be as cool doing it. Ridley can shoot his fireballs in three directions and has specials where he shoots multiple fireballs. Now if I could go the entire topic without referencing Yoshi's "Fireballs! Yum!" quote... wait, nevermind.



Oh, and guess what happens when Ridley's HP drops to a certain level? Ridley turns orange, then red as his HP drops below certain points. Since I'm using PalFX for this, it should make the color change depending on Pallete. If you don't like it, it's only a few lines of code so you can easily get rid of it. I just thought it would be cool to do.

Well, that's it for Ridley for now! It's coming along smoothly compared to Dedede, so expect a beta soon. If you have any requests, ideas, or complaints, please reply. Any comments to the effect of "No Super Metroid? You suck!" will be ignored.

Pos Y>= 0 is a better trigger. If you had a pos of -10, and your velocity was 1, sure you'd hit -1. If your velocity is 3, you'll miss it. Velocity in mugen is managed by pixels. 1vel = 1 pixel per tick. 3 = 3 pixels per tick. You are not hitting -1 dead on. Give it a range.

Well, it sort of works now; the stars are showing up now. Problem? I checked where Dedede lands and it's a few pixels (maybe 5-10 or so? I dunno) below where the ground is. Another problem (probably related) is that it now takes forever for Dedede to get out of the landing state (okay, so it's about 3-5 seconds, but by fighting game standards that's a long time). Think my velocity could be the problem?

A character who never makes any sense and seems to have the ability to warp reality simply by being completely unhinged from it? As a character in MUGEN? Sign me up! Just make sure his attacks are totally wacko or at least bizarre or I'll come after you with Lincoln signing a bananaphone!

Physics = N and use gravity. Physics = A gives an automated state change to state 52 when you reach ground level.

Yeah, that's even worse. Now Dedede keeps going downwards until finally going through the floor and beyond the bottom edge of the screen. I have GOT to be missing something. I'm using this code:

Been a while since I've had to ask for help. I just suck at debugging SO. MUCH. So, for one of my attacks I'm having Dedede accelerate downwards and hitting anyone on the way downwards. This part works just fine and dandy. The problem is that when he lands, I want him to create stars to the left and right that damage foes. This part... doesn't work so great. It doesn't trigger at all, actually. He just lands, and there's no star, no animation, and no damage to the enemy. Once again, here's the code:

Before you ask, I'm having the hitboxes in the actual landing animation, not the stars. Maybe that helps some.

I need sounds for a Ridley character I'm making on the side. It can be from any game, but I really would like the sounds from Super Smash Brothers Brawl. You know, roars, shooting fireballs, flapping wings, things like that.

Anyway, I'd like to record a video of my Beta King Dedede and probably lots of other things, but I'm not sure what to use. Holding up a video camera to the monitor is probably the obvious answer, but there's probably a better way. Is there a program or something to record what's going on on your screen (pretty much "print screen" but with video)? I'd just like to know how the people on Youtube do it.

Related question: Are there any good free programs for editing video?

P.S.: Since this wasn't a MUGEN question per se I thought it fitted here the best. If it fits somewhere else better feel free to move it.

Pretty good "Alpha", are u going to change what Kraco does when you summon it?

Yeah, the super was kind of rushed. I'm hoping to animate it better before final release. Maybe I'll make the thunderbolt multi-hit, too.

If I had the sprites, I would DEFINITELY make Tabuu from Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann from... Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Sadly, I have zero spriting abilities so that will have to remain a dream for now.

Nice, Overall, I kinda like it :D. He has some unqiune moves and nicely used sprites and animation.

And here's feedback: When dedede somehow vomits out a waddle dee, Make it come put his mouth like a projectile instead of randomly appearing. smae thing as the kirby clone that has a big eyeball and shoots a star beam. Make the moves faster, And you should add sound effects.


Thanks. He's calling for help, not vomiting the waddle dee out. Should make sense when I add the sound effects. Also, Dedede's supposed to be a little bit slow.
