Re: Debate: Is the Internet 'Serious Business' or 'Why so Serious'?

Now I seem to get the word serious confused...

Looking at it, people seems to be serious at the wrong occasion and the wrong time. Some people take jokes so seriously that they assume the joke is a threat, cold violence, harassment etc. Others are in a clearly serious and formal conversation and treats it as a joke, making a fool of himself.

People tend to think the internet is serious business because they get big ideas about it, such as using it as a platform to become super famous (yeah right) or to hang out with normal people in chatrooms (pfft). And when they get made fun of, they think the entire planet saw it happen because everyone uses the internet all the time and looks at their profile in particular, and knows exactly who they are in real life. In reality, it's not that much more damaging than being insulted in real life except that anyone who wanted to look at it could (although there wouldn't be many) and it's done as text on a screen instead of words from somebody's mouth. People think the internet is serious business for a lot of reasons.

Although IRL dox are serious business because then somebody will use your credit card to order 60,000 PS3s.

But if people know who you are, say, you're a celebrity, and tens of people insulted you, would that be very damaging?

I mean, some people can take insults and wouldn't blush at all with a coffin-thick skin while others are deeply affected and ended up commiting suicide. It happens.

The internet is more than just taking insults, and I'd say overall people take the internet too seriously, whether it's people from 4chan getting angry about people stealing their memes or some myspace girl getting trolled. Most of the people who do these sorts of things are teenagers though, and are probably over-emotional about most things.

As for the people who commit suicide over insults, they clearly have a lot of other things going on in their lives, and that insult is just part of a katamari of shit that they put up with. The people giving the insults obviously don't think the internet is serious business and even joke about wanting to cause a suicide, but a lot of the time are as dumb as the person they're insulting and take the internet just as seriously. But the insult could really only be the last straw, because they'd have to put up with shit in real life too.

The internet is taken too seriously by too many people, even the people who claim to take it the least seriously.

I can see Saturn in the background, so I'm guessing that means they're in space. Are the two main characters standing on a spaceship without wearing a space suit? How are they breathing? Or are they inside a space station and you can see Saturn in the window?

Let me guess..

More new moves..

It seems everyday...

Homer becomes less of a spriteswap of Ryu.

You mean Iori, not Ryu. If you think it was Ryu then you obviously haven't played a single Street Fighter game, unless this is some sort of retarded trolling.

Also, a Kamehameha? Seriously?

Who gives a shit about races when they don't even bother with accurate clothes.

It's more like the other way around - when making a live-action adaptation you have to make some compromises, and very unusual outfits are acceptable sacrifices to some extent, as would be details like Mai's chest size or Iori's red hair (if Leona was in, regardless of race I wouldn't expect them to dye the actresses' hair blue).
The moment they decide to make a movie with characters based on a japanese legend that have japanese names, which with the exception of the more supernatural/mythical aspects of the plot live in a mostly-realistic modern world, I kind of expect them to at least use Japanese actors.

The guys making the Tekken movie didn't seem to agree.

Being made fun of on the internet is serious business because then people will know that somebody made fun of you.

Some quick feedback for you:

-I don't know if it's intentional but the deltas for the clouds are weird in fact there aren't any at all?

[BG Cloud1]
type=normal
spriteno=0,1
start=-250,-50
tile=1,0
tilespacing=230,0
velocity=.125,0
mask=1

Might want to look into this, more feedback later.

I knew I'd messed something up with the clouds. I'll fix that.

Why people are making Iji stages, why not General Tor aswell? :D

Oh, and you REALLY need to have the original cityscape. :)

I'm making General Tor but spriting him is a bitch because you don't see him in his normal form very often. Plus to get all the details in, you need to have a really tall sprite.

And yeah, I'm getting the original cityscape right now, and I'll make the stage taller like Ray said. I'll probably have a new update by the end of the week.

This is how I felt about the movie.

Anyway about the fans wanting to go to Pandora, this doesn't really surprise me considering some of the crazy fans I've seen before.

anyone who didn't like warcraft *might* not like the new single player campaigns then, according to blizzard each one is customized, terran campaign, is buying your way to an army in a mercenary pov, zerg is enhancing your hero(kerrigan) and upgrading etc, they said protoss is more "diplomatic".

I want to see what they're definition of diplomatic is.

Sherlock Holmes was fucking awesome and better than Avatar.
Kind of over-dramatic, but I like that sort of thing.

Every time I talk about Earthbound with somebody or community, there's always equal halves of people who love it and equal halves of people who hate it. I personally enjoyed, but I often put up with repetitiveness in games and couldn't play it for more than an hour.
