Or you could do them Neo Geo Pocket Style!

No, I am NOT excited about this project... I don't know what you're talking about... SHUT UP!

Lol... in all seriousness, the only Fire Emblem I played was the first one for GBA... I didn't even get that far. I liked it, but I don't really know who Merric is... I used this picture for reference:

Then I tried playing one for DS and saw that they changed the hand drawn pixel art during combat to pre-rendered 3D. Blergh! That turned me off the game completely.

Don't get too excited. I just whipped this up so that you'd have something to start with. I am NOT doing an entire spritesheet (This drawing alone took several hours in-between doing other stuff at the same time).

Hope you like it. I also suck at shading, which is why this isn't shaded.

What I'm going for right now is a violent Mortal Kombat game with a bit of itchy-and-scratchy humor added to it, as mentioned before. So, for example, if a player gets his head torn off, the rest of the body will start looking for its head and then fall down when it realizes it's not there. Or Rayden getting toasted every time he does his victory pose. Gameplay should stay pretty much the same as the original game. For now, I only plan to incorporate humor and new graphics to the formula.

If it turns out to be a hit, I'll work on MK2 and stuff... I might end up updating/changing the graphic style a bit later. I don't want to make it too complex, though... the current style is kinda cute and charming, and that's how I want to keep it for now.

Hey, guys. Just wanted to see if anyone was interested in helping me with this project.

KARTOON KOMBAT (Name is likely to change)

It's an idea I pitched to another user (kio) who wanted to do a In-game sprite vs. MSPaint Sprite game. I suggested keeping only the MSPaint characters in and just do an Itchy and Scratchy-type violent game, like the one I thought of long ago before I had even heard of M.U.G.E.N. (I swear! I thought of a reverse SF: The Movie game after playing it on the arcade!. Only I wanted mine to be GOOD...)

Here's the sample I sent him on how to improve the MSPaint characters. He didn't seem all that interested. His website's dead, too. I didn't want these to go to waste. They're SUPER easy for me to make, so the project'd be finished in a relatively short time, sprite-wise. Only, I don't know how to program.

Lemme know what you think.

Graphicus out...

Yeah, exactly. The arm is perfect, in fact... I just got worried when I saw the hair following the perfect straight lines, hehe. The face looks a little too blocky still, though. Maybe a bit more dynamic shading around the curves of the face? The way it's done right now makes it look like it just goes from dark to light in a perfectly horizontal path. Of course, I don't know why I'm saying all of this since this is not even the final version. I've not seen other works from you for reference, so I don't know how to judge what would and wouldn't be likely fixed in the final version from looking at previous work. I'll try not to say anything unless you're specifically asking for one area in particular from now on.

You could also make Tenshinhan more of air combatant. Not sure if anyone recalls this but the Crane School was the first group to incorporate levitation to the Dragonball series so that's usually how he fought. You can have Chaozu take part in some of that, too.

This is a BRILLIANT. Taking all those characters you came up with and doing something awesome with it. The fact that it started as a spoof makes the whole thing so much better. The comic's great, too. You don't even need cutscenes, you can just scan the comic and maybe clean it up so that it keeps the MSPaint Style of the sprites and just put it in there.

Keep it up! I really want to see what you guys can come up with!

This is not so much a criticism, more of a curiosity:

I understand using something as a base to guide you, but you don't really HAVE to make the character look polygonal when going to 2d. Right now the character looks like a 2D version of MK4 Liu Kang (and a very good one at that) that an attempt at making a KOF XII-styled sprite.

Do you understand what I'm getting at?

well graphicus yes i need you help but i have one question for you

¿you cant create a power the char?

Wait... what? Are you asking if I'm able to create special move effects, such as Sub-Zero's Freezing Ball or Sonya's Ring Toss? Um, yeah... there shouldn't be any problems.

Un momento... que? Preguntas si soy capaz de crear efectos de movimientos especiales? Como la bola congelante de Sub-Zero o el Lanzamiento de Anillos de Sonya? Estemmm, si.... no deberia ser problema.

Lol... I had so much fun with that dumb little sub-zero drawing that I did the rest of the MK cast. It'd be awesome to see these little guys ripping each other's limbs off... good ol' cartoon violence :D

If kio declines my request, I'm officially starting my own project (he hasn't answered yet). I'll need coders, though... I only know how to draw.

Also, Scorpion's Jack/Grimm look is no accident. Muahahahahaha!

I think it's a brilliant idea. I would actually just go ahead and leave out the real characters and just stick with the drawn ones... reminds me of the stickdeath animations that were so popular on the internet not so long ago (Okay, yeah... 5 years).

The problem isn't that the drawings are simple, though... but they should be stylistically simple... Here's an example (maybe too elaborate) of what I mean, also done on MSPaint:

If you're interested, I can help out.

*Ver dibujo arriba*

Si te interesa, te ayudo...

Call me obsessive-compulsive... but I personally think it'd be better to use ACTUAL Alpha artwork rather than artwork originally created for other games that don't follow the same style as the character sprites in the game.

It looks really good. Kinda like opening screen in DBZ Butouden 2 for the SNES? Although, yeah... the character is kinda facing upwards.

Do you need original character artwork for VS Screen and Character select screen? A la MvC2?
