Hey Werewood, thanks man!  Means a lot to me.

Btw, I keep checking all the time hoping you'll make Green and Zoma from Golden Axe: Duel!  I know they're a bitch to make, I did rip some of their sprites for an OpenBOR game -- not all of them, but PM me if you're interested and I'll send you what I have.

Well now I do appreciate you taking the time to give a comprehensive feedback.  However, I did mention that I probably won't be doing a revision to this game (especially since my partner can't finish his end of it), so it's unlikely I would make these corrections.

Now, I see the golf course level is bugging you.  There's a scene in Enter the Dragon where Roper fights some guys on golf course during his intro.  I looked all over and couldn't find a golf course level, so I used Cybaster's stage making tool and found a photo that best worked for scale.  Without my guy who was designing the stages, that's the best it's gonna be unfortunately.

I was holding on to this game for months, waiting to release it until it was totally finished.  I've had people asking me to release it, or wanting specific characters.   And then I read about someone who had a HD crash and lost everything, and didn't have the heart to re-start a game they were making.  That made me realize that I should just release the game as-is.

'Cause the thing you're still missing is that if you select Bruce and play through the whole game till the end, it's damn fun to play and re-create your favorite moments from the film.  Some people will dig it and appreciate it, and as I said up front, that is who I made this for.

Again though, thank you for taking the time and effort to give feedback and constructive criticism.  Who knows, maybe someone else will want to take this game and improve on it based on your suggestions.

Hah, I always open to constructive criticism!  But I just wanted to warn people ahead of time that I'm releasing this as-is and probably not going to do more work on it, so don't waste time asking for changes.

As I said in my first post, the person who was helping me on this hasn't been able to work on it for 8 months, and who knows if or when he'll be able to finish.  He did that first stage, and was working on converting the other ones.  Also, he was making a cop character, so the Edi. E. I made is a place holder.  As is the golf course 'photo'.

As for the clashing sprite bases --- this IS Mugen you know.  There is no way to find characters that resemble the actors in the movie from just one sprite base.  KOF has the good karate uniforms.  Capcom has Fei-Long, etc etc.  If this were Street Fighter Alpha 4 I would agree with you.  But this is a game that is meant to be fun to play, and an homage to a movie.  I don't think most people care about the sprite bases or hit sparks etc.  And frankly, if Enter the Dragon is about all these different styles of martial arts coming together in a tournament, then I think it's fitting to bring in different styles of art (within reason of course).

Same goes for the Samurai Shodown life bars.  The bad guys in Enter the Dragon aren't using kung fu, but karate (the majority of the guards and O'Hara).  So why not use Asian themed life bars?  Fits the motif and visual feel just fine.

Don't become so anal about MUGEN that you lose sight of the larger picture -- the casual gamer plays games to have fun, not to pat themselves on the back because they can name each and every sprite and what game it came from.  I have to ask, have you actually downloaded the came and played it through from start to finish?  Would you look at a meal sitting on a table and criticize it because the napkin rings clash with the glasses, without having actually tasted the food?

Thanks ZombieBrock!  Glad you enjoyed it.

Lasombra, I didn't open a topic per se, this is just a release.  I.E., this is where I'm announcing the game is available and the link to download it for those who wish to do so.  Sorry you don't like the Mr. Williams afro sprites.  Short of somehow drawing him from scratch, frame by frame, how would you suggest creating the character from the available sprite data-base?

+ =

It's supposed to be Mr. Williams
I used Mr. Jones afro on Takuma's body.  Took hours and hours to frankensprite.   If you have a better suggestion, I'd definitely be open to hearing it.

And this was what I said in the vid comments in reply to the negativity:
I challenge you to go and find the elements needed to 'compile' this game. Bruce Lee with nunchucks, alt outfit, fatalities? Made for this game. Sidescrolling beat 'em up MUGEN levels? Made for this game. O'Hara, Mr. Han and Williams sprites? Made for this game. Etc etc. Yes, there are a couple of characters that only had some audio voice changes, but they were used because they match the characters from the movie. This game is for fans of the movie.

Bottomline:  I made this game for fans of the movie.  There's enough original content in there to qualify it as a new release.  If you don't like it, don't play it.  I've gotten a lot of nice emails from people who really enjoy the game and are Bruce Lee/Enter the Dragon fans.  They are who I made this game for.  I'm not looking for constructive criticism or feedback, as I stated I probably will not be updating this.  It is what it is, so love it or hate it.  Peace.

This game is based on the Bruce Lee movie ENTER THE DRAGON.  This is a beta version.  The person helping me with the stages, and making the cop character has been away from MUGEN for 8 months, so I decided to release the game as-is.

Many original things were created for this game:
Bruce Lee with nunchuck mode and new hair and outfit palette, and fatalities.
Sidescrolling level engine
O'Hara sprites (based on Takuma)
Mr. Han sprites and moves (based on Elias)
Karate Guys trainer
Mr. Williams sprites (afro frankenspriting!)

To perform Bruce Lee's fatality against all players:  D, DB, B and jab punch
To perform Bruce Lee's fatality against Mr. Han:  D, DB, B and jab kick

This game was created in honor of Bruce Lee and for fans of his movies.  I probably will not be updating it for some time.  If anyone wants to add to this game, you have my permission.

Hey Max,  I actually did add those overall darker shades to the costume, after I made the gif.  If you watch the video you'll see the difference.  Beyond that, I'm certainly open to anyone doing extra work on the palette if they think they can improve it.  The part that was time consuming was separating his hair from his skin tones, so that his hair could be turned black, and also the sleeves being higher up on the arms, and of course the black stripes on the costume.

If anyone wants to improve on it, they don't need my permission -- go for it!

Hi Mimchou, thanks for your comments.
MANTIS is just Mr. Jones from Rage of Dragons.  He was the closest thing I could find to Kareem-Abul Jabbar from the Game of Death movie.  I only sized him up in Fighter Factory to make him taller.

I've converted Strongheart's sprites to look closer to the toy/cartoon, along with Warduke, Elkhorn and Kelek for an OPENBor game.  I'm slowly adding them to MUGEN, but since MUGEN requires a lot more sprites, Strongheart is the only one close to finished.

Here's how they look (in OPENBor):

So glad to see more Golden Axe chars!  Did a quick test and he's great.  There was one bug where he froze fighting Death Adder, but it didn't happen again. (to be specific, it's after he died, it paused 30 secs before the round ended)

Any chance you'd do Green and Zoma next?

Thumbs up!

Hey Werewood,  check your PM.  My only complaint is that the sprites are pixilated, which isn't really obvious until you try and make new palettes.  But, I PM'd you a solution.

Great job with Kain Blade!  You've made a lot of folks happy with this release.

Here's a minor suggestion:  Change his size to this-

xscale           = 0.57
yscale           = 0.53

Thank you guys for testing it and for all the feedback!
Sergeus,  yes those unused sprites are for some helpers that I'm hoping to add once I get the updated sprites -- one of them is Belger, who shoots his crossbow, and the other is for El Gado, who does a sliding kick and throws his knife projectile too.  When they're in the game it gets much harder because now you have to block high and low and from more directions.

Great suggestions, I'll do my best with it.  I can't wait to see what you come up with for your AVP Project - if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.  I'm sure you'll figure out how the set the health and spawn points for the helpers, but if not, I'm happy to explain in detail.

Blake, I know how you feel man.  I taught myself how to code for MUGEN and I still have a lot to learn.  I'm tempted to try a game in OPENBor, but intimidated by having to learn a whole new system.  It looks more complicated than MUGEN, although that could just be because it's new and different.
This Final Fight char would be great as an OPENBor mod, if I knew how to do it...
The cool thing about this being in MUGEN is that you can do a sidescrolling level, and then a regular MUGEN character for the "boss fight".

Since I made this character as a plug and play template, my advice would be to get Fighter Factory and open it up, and start by looking at the sprites.  Pick one of the characters, and hit the "Change sprite" and replace it with something else to get your feet wet.  There's a great free program called Gimp, which is a bit like photoshop, and let's you turn gifs and jpegs into pcx files, which is what the sprites need to be saved as to import them into Fighter Factory.  Hope that helps.
