k let me put this into mugen terms so it makes more senseAmon Amarth are melodeath and Viking metal ain't even a real subgenre - it describes mostly the folk/black metal type of bands that are viking themed (duh), like Enslaved or Ensiferum. It's more like a scene than a subgenre. While I don't care much for AA personally, I'll still prefer them over the likes of Children of Bodom.
You know that "KoF Ryu" that has a few KoF Qualities but doesn't play at all like a KoF character?
Amon Amarth is the equivalent of that, except with KoF being replaced with the genre known as "Viking Metal."
Amon Amarth puts so much effort into being "Viking-related" that it tears away from their overall skill and general quality.
They are speed/other genres of metal, and not viking. And tbh not a very good example of it.
They had one good album, but it was their lowest rated (because fans wanted moar viking)
Just like you guys have a "rigid grading system that doesn't really exist but all the smart people follow it" the same goes with music.
k
By the way, which one of their albums was their "lowest rated"?
