I'm using those purchases as a sort of save, as in, after unlocking Billy, Saiki, all of the gallery, I bought those things in the online store so that if my PS3 breaks (happened before), I won't have to unlock them all over again (well, and I don't need a lot of excuses to throw money at SNK). Not done with all the colors yet (I'll just unlock them by trying out the corresponding characters online), but when I do, they're getting the same treatment.

The icons, however, are gonna be trouble - the only ones left are for the trials (the trial trophies and the 10 ranked match wins in a row are the only ones left for me), and those will be trouble. Oddly, I did manage to pull off 5 of a character's trials - Daimon's, of all people, and I generally suck at grapplers...

Not sure if I'll crack and up up buying those icons, but I'll see if I can manage a new trial a day...

One small thing I'll probably use  to help me pick mains is the stat screens under Character Data - it keeps track of how many times you've fought online and your win ratio. Even after all this time I'm yet to pick a main, since I haven't used everyone online yet to see how I manage against human players with any character, but the data in those screens should help keep things in perspective. For one, I'm doing a lot better with NESTS Kyo than I expected (60% win ratio), so when in doubt about the trials to attempt, I try his.
I'll probably manage to get some offline training this weekend though, maybe that'll also be illuminating.

Long story short, the writing that the bottom of this picture from Final Fight concept art that precedes the release of the arcade game says "newhalf", marking the intent of having both Roxy and Poison and transgendered from the very start.

I generally don't care about FCG personalities and drama, but after the video's eloquent history lesson likely reaching quite a few more people, one of my hopes for EVO (other than massive KoF success) is that Kayo Police cosplays Poison there (last year it was C.Viper and Xiaoyu IIRC), to maximize the awkward/confused/guilty boner poetential all around of everyone who still denies the evidence.

Poison Kiss is just the full name of her in japan

Maybe, but then why would that card bother to mention her as a separate character?...

(maybe to make the SD Final Fight a wee bit less controversial in overall tone?)

Y'know, I kinda think I want Ash to return. I used to hate him for being a ripoff of a ripoff, but...he seems kinda cool with the black clothes. If he could only lose the tiara...and have some of Saiki's moves...

Maybe...the temporal lines can fart him, out of memory, back to 2001...? Maybe...even have Botan with him?

I wouldn't be surprised to see him in some future dream match game, that's still a possibility now that his plot is over - I just doubt they'd give him Saiki's moves, he's interesting enough as a separate character with all his teleporting shennanigans.

Minor point: there were mentions in this thread of "Poison Kiss", but in the SVC CFC DS card description for Poison, there's a mention of a separate character under that name, as a possible sister to the character. Not something directly from Capcom, but I wonder where the name came from - poking around, I think I saw some mention of that coming up in Mighty Final Fight (the SD NES bersion).
Anyone know more about that?

Also, poor Roxy - she shows up 1st in FF (1st level, I think), while Poison is actually her palette swap, not the other way around, only appearing later in the subway stage, yet history turned out this way, isn't it sad?  :'(

Dee Jay, Rufus, El Fuerte, C. Viper, maybe Balrog (boxer).
Mignon can die in a fire and take the Meiras, Lien, Hyena, Jivatma and Nagase with her.
Laurence Blood too.

kensou

What's wrong with you? :(
Seriously though, that one character's been through so many different playstyles and looks than unless the core concept annoys you there must be something to like somewhere in his history.

It's been a while, but I think you could also unlock characters in that game by completing segments of the challenge modes, like the Metal Slug fights, or progressing through a certain number of characters in survival mode (or am I mistaking that for the unlocking of skins and stages?...).

Anyway, I prefer Namco's method mostly used in the SC games: completing a story/arcade mode unlocks something specific (usually character), but you'll get it anyway by simply playing through any other mode enough times, so you can spend a while in versus mode trying out other characters until your main's unlocked - you'll learn a bit about the opposition in the process, and you get motivated to explore more of the game.

I look forward to the day when they let you unlock moves for a proper character customization mode, even if that's tournament banned - with all the crazy stuff SC5 has allowed visually, it's kinda annoying to force you to still use the same old movesets.

What I don't like to see is characters only available in versus mode - I don't mind of a boss character gets a crappy ending, but I like to at least be able to use one through that mode, even if as a way to experiment with a character. That sort of thing doesn't happen much anymore, but it was annoying when it did.

Does anyone else have KOF Encounter for the I-phone, and are you able to encounter people anymore? For the last 5 days it has not had any encounters and I con't find any info on the net to tell if it's my issue or a global one.

It's apparently not for sale available (it's supposed to be free) in this corner of Europe :(

100€ for a Garou 2 with this version of Chonrei in it, and another 100€ for a SNK vs Capcom 2 with the combined casts of their previous crossover games plus Haggar, for that Geese x Haggar match that's yet to happen.

If there were to be a new crossover invlving more than 2 companies, 20€ per different company involved, for variety's sake.

It's a tough choice, since there are so many games to like for so many different reasons, but I'm boiling it down to these:

- XI: used a more dynamic way to manage your team, letting you swap into a character that might fit your current opponent best, instead of creating a pause between losinng a character and getting to use a new one, forcing a specific order, not to mention it's a generally very solid game (the classic team system might feel a bit archaic in comparison, basically, and this game switched things around much better than the striker system of the NESTS games); I'm just not a fan of the Leader DM system and character swap combos; getting Silber back was cool too

- XIII: the one I've had the easiest time using combos in, loved the drive cancel system and the alternate properties of EX version of moves (although I kinda wish most would cost half a power bar instead, no big deal), yet at the higher end of combo skill it can be remarkably complex but rewarding (dem trials...), and this seems to have helped it earn respect among a lot of people who've usually ignored the series (EVO, 'nuff said); also, welcome back MR Karate!

- MI2: the fangasmic use of 3D assets is something I miss, between the alternate outfits, bonus games, music, characters getting moves they should have in-universe yet they lacked before (like Mai getting Kouhadan, which andy and Hokutomaru have) and lots of little things like that. It's sad to see that sub-series discontinued, even if I'd rather keep alien plots and Falcoon designs out of my KoF (Duke and Chae Lim were OK though).

A mix of the strenghts of these 3 (all of them plot games, btw, which is a strenght in my book) with a cast like 2k2um's (more May Lee would be welcome, for example) would bring us rather close to a perfect KoF.

Mentioning Necromancer again because he's just that awesome - his older Picollo is more feature-packed than some creators' complete character output and IIRC it was partially conceived as a sort of character-shaped Mugen tutorial.
Loved Splode's stuff too, his Randy Green being another good example of getting interesting things done with the engine.

Snakes are generally symbolic of evil, untrustworthiness, etc.  It's just imagery I'd say.

If that's the case, it's a bit dissapointing, considering everything else they could have used (Shadaloo army from the old SF2CE boss endings and a recent SFxT promotional, the Psycho Drive from SFA3 - I think there was a hideout of his with a face too inpired on the SF2 anime?... - a bigger Shadaloo logo, the other classic SF2 bosses - Heihachi can get away with depicting his son and grandson in his illustration... - , Seth-ish replacement bodies, the dolls, etc...) - they used so many more interesting references in several other character illustrations...

Interesting times - apparently KoF videos got taken down in Major League Gaming's name, but they're denying involvement for the time being, implying that Youtube's overreacting.
I never expected KoF to get this kind of attention, even with it being in EVO - I'm curious to see how this develops...

Godzilla is funnier from the sides (random position, much like the background pics are random?).

Also, I'd prefer if the KoF character illustrations were from actual KoF games, not CvS (you heretics!).

Edit: noticed Mai and King pics are from actual KoF, which is OK - Kyo and Iori from CvS is still weird and wrong though.

A light shade of blue for the background would like nicer IMO.

Edit 2: only noticed the Terry and Geese pics from CvS now - those are kinda passable, since that's Shinkiro art (not one of his best depictions of geese though).

Interesting that they made Bob and Julia's intro reference Cody. It'll be interesting to see how those 2 guys will stack up against each other when the latter is released...

Way too much focus on the usual areas in the Poison intro though, reminds me of those SCV ads with proeminent parts of Ivy in them...

It feels really silly that the intros were so inconsistent about languages: Asuka & Lili use their respective languages, which is becoming Tekken tradition, then Boxer & Claw go all japanese and make the Capcom side seem lazy, then both Steve and Hwoarang go all english... o_O

Is it me, or one of the generic fighter silhouettes in several intros looked like Sean? Probably means nothing, and the other silhouette didn't bring any specific Tekken counterpart to mind, but still interesting.
