hello!
I'm just writing to ask some help about that z edge detection method which legend says it is used to detect the stage the player is in.
i searched for that tutorial but never found it. do any of you have it? or at least could you give me a hint on how is it used?

You said that your next release will be the full game, and believe to me: that's the coolest thing I can think about your awesome project, it's always been made to be a truly original full game, and this is its natural development.

Anyway, about the full game: is its cast complete like it is or are you planning to make 2 (to have a 8 players roster, it's classic :P) or more characters or the game will have the five characters we already know plus this new one guy?

the cast is 6 usable players. The 5 oldies and the new one. plus, there will be a boss and a sub-boss.

About fatalities: no, they have not much sense ala Mortal Kombat, but maybe you can turn them in Instant Kill ala Guilty Gear... it's not the best thing, I know, but they were thought to be deadly moves, and this is the only way I can think about to have them...

Here is a little scheme:

  • 3 stock power bar for the activation
  • basic activation (similar to the dark-force-ish thing but with different buttons obiviously)
  • the bar decreases rapidly, in this relatively short time you have to do the IK, if the power bar is finished than the life bar decreases (or the activation end, the choice is yours)
  • the IK should have small range and it's difficult to make it connect
  • if it connects well... you won and kill your enemy in a blood-bath, if you don't you can't make it anymore for the current round

well, Im having problems in that aspect. AS they are now, my fatalities require P1 to have low health. This is wrong I think, cause i've seen in a lot of videos how the user let's the opponent hit him to complete the requirements to perform the move, and I dont like that. Its like that a certain point the user only thinks on the fatality and its requirements and not in the fight anymore. That also the problem of the move killing the opponent in a single move taking 100% of damage. so that's why I came out with the new system that is fancy but no so weird. But i dont know what to do yet.

Like I've suggested in ages past, it'd be nice if you could pull off the fatalities only when P2 is near-death.
The visual indicator that the move is available would be P2's stance, since you make them look tired when low on health, or just some symbol in a corner of the screen... or whatever works for you.

I refused that cause it cant be used in simul mode. If player accidentally hits the other opponent which is full, he kills him :'( and it's cool to have fatalitys in simul mode since you can kill both of your opponent with it and have a bloodbath onscreen JA! ;D

my next release will be the game, so i think ill use the new fatality system there. then, when i release the updated chars for the regular mugen ill see what people wants from them.

To me it sounds like something you should only add in your full game.
I'm looking forward to you, exploiting all of the MUGEN capabilities in your full game :beam:

i was planning, on this char, to change the fatality system my chars have and turn it into a finisher. this is: the char has his hypermmoves but no fatal move. when one specific hypermove hits a life-low char. it turns into a fatality killing him with grooveness.

the pro of this is that i wont be battling the weirdness that the fatal move creates in the gameplay. i mean a move that takes all your energy at once...

and the bad thing is that this way the fatality is just a fancy thing, not real advantage. just like mortal kombat. you use the fatality to feel better, not to kill your enemy when you are losing.

what do you think?

i got into mugen in the year 97 (i think) when looking for sexy artworks of felicia (I was a kid sorry.... but I'm still one) and I got into a page that said: naked felicia. I entered there and downloaded a ZIP with a lot of weird files like .cns, .cmd, etc. where is the naked felicia? i asked to my monitor, but it didnt answer. I checked the page again and discovered it was a char for a game called mugen. so, thats how i got into mugen. sad, isnt it?

For the rotating projectile, perhaps a pendulun nailed to his chest/body?

As for sexual moves, pelvic thrusts with a bladed spike is always nice, be it a girl or a guy.
The iron virgin could be a counter move, turning into a woman for a second, if touched, blades pop out from the breasts after a hug.

as for the virgin I wuld love to make an automat. like the gut getting armored with the virgin "suit" turning him in the iron virgin and then walking toward the opponent to hug him being unbeatable like an armored char. But makes no sense in gameplay so I'm still thinking

How about a move where she pops a kiss, and then a lance pops out of her mouth through the enemy face?
it's good. I like it.

Im going more towards the direction of disfigurement than of that where the character would have to be immortal.

Hooks and skin distortion would also look good on this case, perhaps a teleport move where hooks fall from above and snag him by his face, landing him on the other side.
With a few more details the brain storming could be bigger.

Mmm.. Also, having a severed tongue, with a piercing in each half  , spiked, to do the fast hits.
Btw instead of blood projectiles, a intestine projectile could work ( like scorpion, dragging the opponent at you)

mmm no teleports I think. I always find them like useless (I know you won't agree, but it's just me)
And i just hate piercing, sorry. It's just me again.

What about some sort of a suspension thing for a super move?

It would be cool to have a torture/body modification fan char (a mixture), if you want inspiration check this out.

(Wow I just had a deja vu. And the part of: "im having a deja vu" was in the deja vu aswell)

and lots and lots of twisting his body around in uncomfortable positions ala Zappa.

A Zappaesque character would make me very happy  ;D
For a Zappa type character I would just suggest jerky movements.

It may sound a tad morbid, but I've always wanted to make a character with a DIY Surgery type move.
It would involve the character slicing open the opponent and pulling all of their organs out.
An effective, if somewhat gruesome finish.  ;P

yea, that thing about taking the organs out was in my schedule already. is cool.

the projectile...hmmm...he puts some acid on his forearm, then a man-eater fly (it's his pet. it's the size of his head) comes to eat from the melted meat, then starts flying around him, and if it hits the opponent it bites him...
hope this is not too complex :P seeing how it could be a crazy thing...
yea, too complex :(

shit, the bad thing about the torture is that I'm forced to hold the opponent still. Must find more dynamic attacks for the special moves. this is hard!

the self-voodoo-doll is an interesting concept. Ill think about that. could be interesting.

Vlad.. Vampire-ish name, why not making a move where he can gain life by draining the opponents, that'll be cool for a bosslike char.

well, the name Vlad is a provisional one. Actually he needs a rumanian name but didnt find a good one yet. Although Vladimir sounds good (not too original but it's interesting). mmm.... I suppose it's a russian name but, i don't really know.

Psychotic Hammer down, shoving nails on his chest he pounds the nails into himself with a hammer, at each trust his back with the nails popping shoves into the direction of the opponent.

psycho stare, his eyes shine red for a moment, there is a blink and in a moment he is no longer there( the shining eyes remaining) and his female form is behind the opponent ready to do a followup.

-The Iron Maiden, from female form he can follow up into this move where he encapsulates the opponent into a ironmaiden, acting like a short range throw

well, I was really thinking in an iron maiden. In fact, my best option was an "iron virgin" another torture stuff which I don't really know if actually exists but I read about it in a book and looks pretty freaky. It's an automat human-size doll made of metal representing a nude girl. it you touch a jewel in her neck she hugs you and her metal breasts open popping out knives that kill you. THAT IS SURELY WEIRD but i didnt find the way of turning it into an efective attack.

-Bloody laughter-from female form whilst laughing he/she shoves a metal spike onto his stomach, spraying blood outwards as a projectile.

Noroko has a blood projectile already

-Human bondage -throw where he twists his own body, breaking his bones as he ties the opponent down and constricts them for damage.

-Blood puppet, strings of blood, emanating from his wounded back lash out into the top of the stage, coming down onto the opponent and holding them onto place.

Bondage freak-Ties himself down onto the ground and jumps towards the opponent ,with several spikes on his body acting as the attack.

interesting. he will have a throw where, as a she, hugs the opponent and lies into a bed nail nailing both of them. and she laughs.

Wait, You want sexual overtones to him, or only violence overtones?

well she will have a kinda sexual move but I don't know, I just don't want to tell you alllll the things the char will have or won't be any surprises.  :S

Psst, Try this for a intro, he on a military outfit with a fetishistic gas mask on his face... General Pain!

This character looks pretty interesting. Here's some ideas I came up with:

You could make him break his arm, and use the exposed bone to stab his opponent.

He could light himself on fire, and charge towards his enemy while holding a bottle of gasoline. When he gets close he breaks the bottle, and ka-blewy!

The female form could break her knee, and twirl around like a ballerina, repeatedly slashing the enemy.

I really like the last one. In fact, his female form doesnt use a skirt like the guy but a ballerina dress.

I'd suggest more craziness with his mouth (like biting people), use of syringes for activating supers, and lots and lots of twisting his body around in uncomfortable positions ala Zappa.

I was just going to say that...
he holds one of his arms with the other arm, breaks his arm against his tibia, then impales his opponent with the broken bone which is still part of his arm...after he deals with the opponent, he performs a ritual which heals/gives him his arm back

mmm too complex.

stabs himself in the abdomen(stabbing the stomach in the process), then takes his stomach out, and squeezes it, squirting a stream of gastric juices/acid
doesnt look like torture.. Its more like a zombie attack, haha

an option, is that after the opponent is hit , after few seconds you can set him on fire...like Jagi in HNK

Also, taking the heart directly into the body of the opponent (à la Rasetsumaru from Samurai Shodown) could be a nice finish move or Lv2 super.
i dont understand...

I have this move but can't find a practical use for it: wanna make him throw a projectile that just spins around my char, like a satellite and if the opponent gets closer he gets hit by the proj. but i dont know what he could use for that. And I also must find the way of making it not too cheap. maybe could be used for DF...

Since it seems to enjoy causing damage to itself, it could just cause more damage to the opponent with it's moves. One idea I can toss your way is to have various attacks that make the opponent bleed constantly, which would drain the opponent's life points for a short time. Implementing a type of counter system would be another idea, as moves that would make the opponent bleed normally would make them bleed even more as a counter attack.

uhm sounds weird. But the thing i that a bleeding system looks like something all the chars in a full game should have and not just 1. like in the latest mk games

well, i still dont know about weapons, but could be interesting. I was thinking about a chain with a hook but the problem of that is the obvious reference to hellraiser and the fact that animating a chain is like being in hell with pinhead putting melted iron in your balls.

about the fighting style, i was thinking on some wild movements. something like orochi iori who is always excited and seems to have no control on his movements. and he always smiles and laughs even when he is dead.

hello!
I wasn't going to make a wip of my next char but I'm forced to do it because I'm really lacking some motivation. So, it would be cool to hear some ideas fom the community to refresh my brain. I won't be releasing this char alone. Im releasing him within the fullgame I'm making which I hope will be my next release. I'm rushing that because I'm getting more and more busy with other stuff and I want to have the game done before is too late to having time for it.

But this wip is about this char and not the game.




So, as you see, the guy likes torture. He tortures the opponent and sometimes even himself in the process. that would be the main concept. As a detail he is sometimes a guy and sometimes a girl (Pot's must hate me, I explained that to him like 1700 times) but I have no sprites of that yet. He turn into a girl (looks like a femenine version of him) to make some attacks. he has no transition for that. its like a POOF! and she's there. So, its not a guy that transforms into a girl, its just sometimes one, sometimes the other. No defined genre.

any ideas?  :D

well, if the music is simple then its not so terrible, it's just a loop. but that limitates the music thing... although, it would let me add sound to the actions in the ending as a good thing.

As I see it, wining in simul arcade mode is far easier than wining in single mode. So, I would like to reward the player only if he wins in single mode. Then, in a full game, is it possible to set a different ending depending on the mode played?
