Since I did the sprites, I'll make this an entry in the 'special characters' section on my own Mugen website too, if that's alright with you.

Hello everyone.
In December, I have something to celebrate: I complete 15 years working with Mugen.

A little history:

I started in December 1999, before entering any community, and I "made" a bad character - in fact, it was just a picture of a brown goo. After going to a bad engine called KOF91 and have released a Nude Felicia, I decided to go back and study the Mugen, in mid-2000, and I joined the defunct MugenShock and then to MugenBR. I went through many forums as Mugen Loaf, Mugen Guild, China Mugen, Mugen Hispania, Infinity Mugen Team, Crusader Cast ... it's a long list.

I made many good friends over the years, I packed several fights, I helped a lot of people, I did a lot of bullshit ... well, I spent 41% of my life here :)

I would like to thank all the support I have received over the years and the good person you I meet, and also apologize for all the shit I did for several people.

Now back to the subject.


This character was designed by someone I have great admiration: Balthazar, who was commissioned by Omega. Meka Dragon comes the game Wonder Boy III, the Master System, a game that played a lot as a child.



Due to some mishaps, I probably will not work more in this character (maybe just to fix problems.) And possibly another developer will release a new version. Just wanted to launch my own version.

I hope to work on a few more characters to celebrate this date, and still be able to count on the support of you for more ... how old are required :)

On this topic, I will be explaining (as much as I can) explain the difference between the two engines (which are different animals), showing how to get the same results as we have in the Mugen OpenBOR when possible. For this, I need everyone's help.

I think it important to be able to invite more people from the community to the Mugen OpenBOR, since we have a lot of good people there, and OpenBOR is a fantastic engine. Both engines works different, and both have its good and bad points.

This post will be a constant work in progress. Since english is not my native language, please inform any english error.

1. BASICS


1a - SFF file and Images


Unlike Mugen, The OpenBOR not use all images in a single file (SFF). All images are organized into folders, usually the same folder as the character but can be in any folder inside the root folder DATA.

One advantage of this is the ease of editing of the images and share images among characters, since respecting the same color palette or palette is changed programmatically. And since there is not a single file, there isn't the same problem we have in SFF file, where images with shared palettes must come before images with no shared palette.

1b - Image Formats & Transparency

OpenBoR supports 256-color (or lower) .bmp, .gif, .pcx or .png files. However, .bmp is too big so choose between the latter. .png is recommended. Image's extension can be omitted (e.g idle instead of idle.gif). If they were more than one images with same name but different extension and there's no specified extension, OpenBoR will search in this order: .gif, .bmp, .pcx then .png

There is no support for "24-bit" PNG (for characters), just indexed color ("8bit" or Color Type 3). Mugen suports it on version 1.1, using alpha mask on the palette (RGBA values). OpenBOR can use Alpha masking (see below).

Transparency

For PCX files, the transparent color index is the same for mugen: the last entry on the palette. For all other formats, is the first one.

Alpha Masking is avaliable (since version 3.2852+), which allows complete freedom in determining the transparency for sprites.


With alpha masking, each pixel of each frame of an animation can have its own alpha value from 0 (fully transparent) to 255 (fully opaque).

OpenBor support sprite clipping, I will talk about it later.

You got a point here. But maybe this could be done on the future (but I really doubt it).
One solution is like OpenBOR does: you simply state in the character header the name of the other characters your character can transform into. Its a full transformation, IOW all the sprites, codes, animations, sounds are taken from the new char.

And there are some other cool options, like:
- Choose if you take all the animations (in Mugen terms, States) from the new character or mix with the old ones
- Choose how the character will revert back to the normal state (after a knockdown? after consecutive hits? never? time?)

Burning sprites ?

Guys, I need to find sprites of a burning body at the ground, to be used when someone dies burning.
The only opton that I remember is the one from Captain Commando, but its facing down, and I need it with his back on the ground.

Any suggestion?
