So... since the last thread was derailed, here's the new one...  >:(

Basics:

about to fall( think of it as a link to the following)

2 frames per each of the following

several combo links ( that meaning, during comboing, lets say weak weak strong, a new animation can pop out, this is where most of the outlandish hit animations are, like Rolento grabbing the opponent and stabbing them)

as many specials as wanted( As bea grabbed the sheets she would usually do a bunch of moves from sprites that i didnt even saw them coming)

All chars should try to keep between a scale of about Titiln size and under or at iced size, but we can use the scale later on to fix them in small proportions. Pots for instance got scaled down a tiny bit because he was too tall.

but her strong and fast jabs can knock the air out of most

He has mastered the ability to have others know he is scowling even when his face isnt showing
He jumps rope really really nicely
can run and jump with a cape just falling on his nose half of the time.

Skills
Rolento carries around gadgets and power objects
amassed from his years of conquests and battles
as the strange wildcard he is, one can never be too sure
where his next attack will come from.

Canada

Blood type:
Red bull with a crazy straw

his ultra desperation attack, ROID RAGE.

His techs further bringing confusion to the heart of battle.

Able to play a mean bubble bobble game, master of marathons of old timey horror movies,
will be able to stand through the lamest of soap operas.

Borghi is the monster, the assassin, the man that has a black shroud of mistery around him,
sometimes under him and sometimes around his legs as he trips down the stairs, his clumsiness is only on par
 with the ammount of pain he brings onto his enemies with his strange attempts of fighting the opponents.

both in air and land.

Rikard the Wandering Hobo

Once tried to seek for power and control over mugen,
now wanders in a daze, walking everywhere with nothing else to fight for..
some say its merely the third step on his new plot to control mugen, the step marked as
a bunch of interrogation marks.

Abilities
Able to read any book by sitting with it and spending some time reading the words.
Ability to eat really spicy food as long as he takes the spicy sauce out first,
incredible amounts of resolution that enables him to play for over ten hours
any mmo without having to go to the bathroom.

Skills
Rikard is a mid range fighter, using techniques based on their strange arcs of movement and guard frames,
he learnt how to unfocus his opponent concentration by acting like a
raving lunatic, wielding any household appliance like an
almost useful tool.

Italian

A normal man, Oz was never too much into the whole wars that warred all around him.
it all would change as he is dragged down right into the middle of it, threats come from everywhere, but then again...
 nothing quite as scary as HE is.
A soft grin in the dark, he certainly isnt in Kansas anymore

Abilities
Able to go without clean clothes for at least a week before he starts stinking up the place.
Always keen to try out new foreign exotic foods.
Can list the full discography of the beatles by memory.

Skills
Able to shift between a ton of nightmares Oz uses reach and speed to
create an effective threat.
The oddity of his moves just increase as the fight goes on, can you stop this nightmare machine?

Raging at bendis for two hours straight after reading any of his books.
Screaming "Quesada" for lengths of two hours at a time.

Two words describe Gate fighting style

Total fucking AWESOME chaos.

The general idea is to have a small roster of mugen people like Bea, Cad, Titlin, Iced among a few others in a silly tournament held by a certain dictator.
Iced takes care of the spriting, and all the programming is done by Beatrice, avoiding the common full game project pitfall of relying on lots of people to work together for a common objective.
We saw one project too many fail due to that.

Keep in mind that we'll select mostly the prominent people of the Mugen community, and those with balanced/cool gameplay ideas.
Overpowered character ideas will be discarded at sight.

Stages are made by several persons and dealt on a per case basis.

So I finished the stand sprite. I got basic attacks coming up but I have some trouble with "false motion blurs".

I really want to do this, I'm trying hard but I'm still a newbie.

For fake motion blurs, create the sprite you need the move to finish with ( you can also make another that is the "start" of the move if you want the move to look better, I do that sometimes, like with the chair smash from Iced sheet.) then, duplicate the sprite, grab a colour that isnt used on the sprite ( like bright green) and draw the lines for the blur, then erase the black portions that are too much and that will disappear so that the colour leaks.
Use the bucket fill to fill the new zones. =) you will then have basic motion blurs that are able to trick the mind into thinking there are
middle sprites there.

Gate is a pocket and mvc spriter , he did the brazilian stage, and approached us( like heaven and hell, also in the same situation) with a half done sprite sheet, in the style and pretty funny.
Although not as known, he has contributed a lot and delivers. He is also pretty funny. Amusing ideas and finished work means a lot here.

You make the sheet, if you can code, you should probably code the sheet as well.

Making it and sending it in will be no guarantee as it has to meet certain criteria. The main one being "If Bea wants to" with the other ones secondary to that.

According to Cyanide's All so Absolute Truth, you make your own character, then send it to the creators of this project. They may include you in the project. If they did, they will remodify unbalanced problems and make your coding similar to their standards.

Also, thanks Iced for the tip.

I'm thinking of making my super luck-based. The effects and the attack are random, hard to combo and unpredictable. Damage will range from little to more than three quarters of an ultra.

As for now, I won't be taking any third party coded character.
It's granted that they won't be following the standards, as they aren't even public yet. :P

And every single character considered official will be coded by myself to ensure that it'll meet the quality requirements.
Once it's out in the jungle, if someone wants to code oneself in, good luck.

I would agree with SBZ if he wasn't so busy being a dick in general and pretending his feedback is more valuable than the next guy's.  Not to mention a good portion of the cast are in fact not mods.

I feel I need to respond to this
The game is not meant to be the new BlazBlue, in graphics as well as gameplay.
The gameplay follows a very simple 3 buttons scheme, with qcf/qcb for special, with very easy comboing and all. Nothing more, nothing less. bia doesn't want a complicated system where you have to learn hell motions and do lp -> F+hk -> HCB+p -> QCF+k -> DB,HCB,DF+lp+hk to perform a 5 hit combo.
You don't need to have a complicated system to have a solid fighting game.  The game as it is right now has the "everything combos into everything" feel to it which makes it seem like a poorly developed game.  There's no subtle intricacies to look into.  The idea of making it accessible to a wider audience is good and all, but (stealing a quote from Guy Kawasaki) if you try to appeal to everyone you will create mediocrity.  (And turn off people like SBZ but then again he probably would've hated it anyway.)

Yes, you're right. I haven't worked much on the combo system as for now, and indeed, pretty much everything ends up linking with everything.
I'll work on more restrictive combo chains for the next release, and suggestions would be nice, as I tend to listen to feedback.
I pushed this beta out pretty much without any testing.  :-X

So heres my review on your beta so far.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is fantastic for a 3-button fighter. Its like its a Street Fight and Smash Bros mix! The QCF commands feel tacked on, but there is time to smooth that out. The characters themselves are unique and interesting. I found that Bea is Top-Tier to the other characters due to her her offense being her best defense. Sometimes, the moves seem rushed, like Titiln's Forg Kazama puppet. I can barely see the text where the Frog says "Get Out" (don't know if you added it though).

Entertainment:
Lots. Never had I had this much fun playing Mugen. I laughed hard at the corny jokes, Iced bouncing in a chair, Rolento shanking his opponent, PotS swimming for a run animation, the hilarity of the stages, etc. The fact that even more stages and characters will be added excites me. Maybe you can include items?

Sound:
The beta is really lacking in this area. It really needs music for the stages and sound effects. Bea is currently the only voice actor for the game. My only tip for you (since I'm taking voice acting classes) is that you need to project your voice. It sounds as if your too timid. Speak up, theres nothing to be embarassed about!  ;)

Yeah, I was gonna add the Tonga and Fijis. I don't know about Ohsky though, he may take offense to it. Maybe someone else can be in the fire. Regardless, I'll ask Ohsky permission.

I'm not too into New Zealand History, but Flight of the Conchords (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_of_the_Conchords_%28TV_series%29) is apparently from guys from there who poke fun at their own country by portraying themselves and everyone in the country as near child-like fools. I figure a Bret and Germaine cameo in there could be a worthwhile touch. That, or tossing in billboards with stuff more or less typical from the seires, like "Just like Lord of the Rings" or "Not Australia".

For a Fliht of the Conchords reference it might work best to have random background elements sort of bouncing/dancing like random stuff does in the show's intro.
Or a sign  justifying the dude rebuilding the place on account of robots killing everything in ("the distant future") the year 2000 with poisonous gasses.

I finished the 1st drafts of the stage on paper. I've added the tribesman, the giant worker, and sheep (more sheep than there are people.)  ;)

I drew another draft which had the fire pit in it, and the person being roasted alive is me (because I may as well parody myself and try to not offend other users).

Then I drew another draft which had the stage look small so the fighters look like giants. The Working Giant is in the background, peekin from behind the mountain to prevent himself from getting hurt and the tribesman are watching in awe and the fighters do battle in a beautiful stage that shows New Zealand's beautiful enviroment. I may make the clouds sheep. :)

I'll upload the images later since I am at school and cannot do it here.

Also, I heard a rumor that Hakan from SSF4 is from New Zealand? If so, I wouldn't mind him making a small cameo like Bret and Germaine.

Question that may not be worth a thread of its own:

Are transparency effects accepted as part of the game's visual style?

Some ideas have crossed my mind for an effect or two on intros and/or supers, but I don't recall seeing transparency in anything so far - if transparency's not compliant with the project's style there could always be a workaround like blinking a sprite or something, but it would be handy to know before developing ideas further before the actual spriting.

I was thinking at least some sort of light focus from above for an intro and SRW-ish portraits (maybe with menu included just to emphasize the reference) for super. Quickish stuff really - the intro light beam being transparent or not would affect how something might get drawn inside it, and the portraits idea might get scrapped or reduced to something really small near the bottom of the screen if transparency isn't an option.

I dont think it would matter, although i think the focus will probably look better as a solid yellow area.. I think its worth a try even with transparent sprites. Not like it cant be changed easily if it ends up looking odd.

Hey, you probably already know this, but have you heard of Shikamaru from Naruto? If you want some Shadow based moves, I suggest checking that out.
yeah, I've heard of him. Perhaps, But I will probably incorperate some dio moves

Nice. Maybe you could have a move where the shadow travels across the ground and grabs the opponent in a choke hold, letting you get a free hit.

I think that there should be some kind of mini game, a bonus stage. Like P.O.T.S's strength training.

 Hello! I just wanted to ask if you are still accepting new characters. If i should start a mugen project of my own... Well i don't have a finished one.

 Still i thought it is worth to ask.

 I can make a character in any style you ask for. Very weak is also possible. I'd like an original style of course...
