Y’Shtola from Final Fantasy XIV will appear in the game. It uses a three-vs-three battle system different from its PSP predecessors, and has completely evolved visuals in comparison.

Me too! I never had a PSP, and PSP emulators don't work on my PC, but I always found Dissidia so awesome-looking!

Oh, so it wasn't just a formal School of Ragnarok reveal? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVKYipxvQEM)

Anyway just finding out SE teased a Final Fantasy fighter some time recently, didn't really keep up with it all. Looks nice.

HOLY SHIT.

This is fucking gorgeous, and it looks like it plays just like the PSP game. This shit is bringing literal, actual tears to my eyes.

Y'shtola?

Well that was bound to happen, heard she was extremely popular so I'm not all that surprised...

But I better see Gaius as well...

Anyways, a Dissidia on arcades!? For the love of all that is holy, CONSOLE VERSION NOW! PS3 and PS4 PLEASE!

I was hoping that at some point this would happen. (now where's crisis core, & FF7 console remakes?)

Oh god yes.
Hope it's on PS3 [too], I'd rather not buy a PS4 yet. I have mixed feelings about the models, I really loved the simple yet clean design on PSP between Crisis Core and Dissidia, but this looks very crisp - though too close to Amano style for my taste. On the other hand, I'm glad to see such a new design style. I'll get used to it, I guess.
I'm assuming the 3v3 means battle royal style, not a team of 3 vs another team of 3 ? Never mind, the intros in the trailer shows teams of 3, even though the fights seem to be a bit messy.

Really though Y'shtola is such a forced representative. Out of all the main characters and maybe even among the Scions she has very little involvement in the plot. The Conjurer class is also one of the least flashy jobs in the game. Thancred, Alphinaud or even Louisoix would have been better reps. Hell Cid would be awesome too. He wields a gunblade and rides a Magitek armor.

It's Shantotto all over again. At least this means Gaius is a shoe-in.

I don't believe Alphinaud would work all that well(not that deep into post game storyline so don't spoil me) and Louisoix would be just as good of a choice.

If it was me personally, I would either have picked Yda or The Admiral surprisingly(I cannot even type her name correctly but her gunslinger style can work pretty well like a less diverse but more in your face version of Laguna's) but yeah, there's no way in hell Gaius isn't gonna be representing the evil side for XIV, he's just too damn memorable.

Otherwise, I do want Seymour as an actual villain for the X side(Jecht is more tweener and even that's pushing it and with Yuna as a playable character now, there's zero excuse) and well...XIII is gonna have to be Caius, otherwise there will be some people who would be pissed off over how much XIII-2 glorified him.

If there are any further adds to the roster that aren't returning characters, I think Duodecim set the trend for who makes it in; either they'd be from a game no older than FF7, or they'd be EXTREMELY popular.

As for who I want, I'd rather see gaps in playstyles and archetypes get filled before worrying about equal representation of games. Kain's good, but there's room for a heavier, more magic based dragoon like Freya. Also the game needs a blue mage, and having a ropedart/whip weapon makes Quistis pretty unique amongst FF characters.

I think if they want to go for old, they'd start from Final Fantasy 5, I mean Gilgamesh and Kefka are pretty damn well-received by lots.

I'm rooting for the appearance of Vincent, Cait Sith, and Ramza. :D

Like I said, they'd have to be extremely popular. Gilgamesh, Kefka and Kain are that popular, but it's a much harder sell for most other older games.

I'd say lahabreaha(sp) is more of her polar opposite even if he's more in the god class tier.

Cecil IS in Dissidia,he just is locked so you need to buy him (well, locked in 012 duo-decim)
I always liked playing as WoL though as he was mostly physical and was easier to control than Jecht was

http://gematsu.com/2015/04/dissidia-final-fantasy-arcade-developed-team-ninja-uses-ps4-core-system

The new Dissidia Final Fantasy announced for arcades in February is being developed by Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja using PlayStation 4 as its core system, Square Enix announced at its Dissidia Final Fantasy Closed Conference today.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Atsushi Morita took the stage during the event, adding that he wants to bring the game to home consoles and is in discussions with Square Enix to do so. But Square Enix producer Ichiro Hazama said that the game will be arcade-exclusive for at least one year before it’s ported.

The game’s arcade cabinet was revealed. It uses twin sticks with the four PlayStation buttons for movement and actions. A live demonstration was given on stage, running on PlayStation 4 hardware at 60 frames per second.

The arcade exclusivity for a year + regular balance updates sound like they're thinking of treating this like a typical fighting game, that's new.
The portraits on the screenshots are odd, between Tina's and Cloud's, I guess they're identical to the actual character's model, but Tina's seem much more Amano-ish - I don't like it.

Unfortunately, that is the case currently.  I just like to try to be hopeful with XIII, XV and KHIII being on Xbox.  And to not have to buy another console just to play this.  Because I really would like to play this with a few friends. :(

I think there's a little bit more info there too than in the Gematsu article last week (but it's essentially the same thing). They're pulling all brakes on the 50 characters announcement though, it's "just a goal" and will start at 14. Maaaaaaaan, way to deflate the hype. (also, they say it goes up to FF14, but I'd be surprised if they didn't throw Noctis in)

That's some pure BS right there...

One of Dissidia's biggest issues was it was mainly a MC-Villain squabble and no real other characters to really fill out the roster more(012 got it somewhat with Laguna, Gilgamesh and Prishe...but that's pretty much it as the other characters still feel like pseudo-MCs in their home games too like Tifa). I truly hope they actually add alot more characters that aren't just in your party but is still quintessential characters in their home series(like one of the members of the Turks or Beatrix or Desch from FFIII, etc.) and pseudo villains(like freaking Seymour or Emperor Gestahl(I know I'm fucking up his name) or fucking Vayne(I know he's the actual villain of FFXII but considering Gabranth is the pseudo villain in Dissidia for it since the start...)

I mean damn, they better actually try and fulfill the 50 character promise and fill that shit out.
Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: Byakko on April 14, 2015, 01:08:11 am
Well, let's not forget that this is for the arcade and they already said they'll keep updating the game with more characters. The first arcade release will likely be (for us) more of a beta with a quarter of the roster, pretty much, and with the balance updates and as they keep pumping characters into it, we'll eventually reach what will, quite simply, be the console version - with most likely over 40 characters, 50 if it all goes smoothly. Maybe it's the reason they're not sure yet if they'll release it console, too : they want to see how well that works out, but they've actually only barely done a quarter of the roster, and the arcade release is a way to see if they can keep going.
(I can't see any scenario where they decide it's not good enough after all and just drop it and never release it on console, though)
So I guess the only real change for anyone who doesn't live in Japan (and won't be able to play it on arcade anyway) is that we won't get to see all the character reveals until nearly a year after the initial arcade release. At least we won't be left waiting drooling for months over all the awesome characters, it'll be less painful and more gradual, like it's still in development and not released at all, it'll just drag quite a bunch...

“We didn’t think about it at first, but after Taito asked us if we’d like to do it on arcade, we went to check out an arcade center, and thought ‘it could have good affinity with arcades’,”
So it was initially planned for console then ? But then why go and say "we're starting with arcade, we don't know yet if we'll go to console" ? Or does he mean they hadn't even planned to do the game at all and Taito sparked the desire to make it ?

I was going to ask what the Soft Engine is, but obviously that's the boob physics, isn't it

Yeah Soft Engine wasn't really all about jiggle physics, it was mainly how TN or Hayashi pitched it as. It's mainly making the skin and muscles also look more...full of life for the characters as well.

It can easily also be attuned to other things as you all have stated, they probably just need to tweak the engine for that honestly.

I'm pretty sure that there was an article covering the decisions behind that and how breaking bodies to give animations more impact is a good thing?

They didn't retouch animations at all. Many characters still twist like hell during gethit states, especially throws and very strong blows. I assume it's more of an artistic choice rather than an engine limitation (You know, like when you go off-model for a few frames to give a greater illusion of movement).

Character breakdown video

Quote
The video starts out with a some basic information on the upcoming arcade release of Dissidia Final Fantasy, and how it’ll mainly be played as a 3v3 action fighter. In this video, 4Gamer gives us a look at the six currently confirmed characters.

The first one is Warrior of Light, who is classified as a “Heavy” class character. He’s a balanced character that can attack from close range with is sword and also from mid-ranged distance. His EX Skill “Holy Chain” is kind of like a “Provoke” that makes enemies all focus target on himself. His “Shield of Light” increases his defense, helping him become a shield for his allies.

Next up, is the Speed-type Onion Knight. He uses his speed to advantage by getting around with ease throughout the battlefield, and can also use magic and sword attacks. The Onion Knight can change his job between “Ninja” and “Sage,” which greatly changes his playstyle. He’s a versatile character that goes with any kind of party setup.

At 2:48, we get a look at the Shoot-type Terra Branford. As the type name implies, Terra shoots down enemies from mid and long-ranged distances using magic attacks. Her EX Skill is her trademark special ability “Trance,” which transforms her into an Esper, vastly increasing her attack, defense, and speed. She’s an easy-to-use damage-dealer type character.

Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife sees some action as a Heavy-type character at the 3:50 mark. Using his giant blade, he can take out enemies by charging (holding) “Brave Attacks”. His EX Skill “Limit Break” allows him to use various attacks with much less time spent charging up his attacks. He might not be able to keep up with Speed-type characters, but he makes up for it with wide range, reach, and heavy attacks.

The Speed-type Lightning is next, and she demonstrates her Paradigm Shift which allows her to switch between two styles of “Attacker” and “Blaster”. Her preferred attacking range changes depending on the style, so you’ll need to know how to switch it up accordingly. Her “Army of One” ability lets her recover HP, making it very useful in all the action going on.

Finally, we get to see Final Fantasy XIV’s Y’shtola at 5:49. Similar to Terra, she’s a Shoot-type character with the ability to attack from mid and long-ranged combat; however, she also excels at supporting allies with buffs and weakening enemies with debuffs. Her EX Skill “Ethereal Pulse” increases the party’s Brave, and the effect will keep going on while the skill is active. It’s powerful and useful, but leaves her open to attacks, so there’s a risk involved, too.

Quote
Character usage from the loke tests so far:

Cloud - 20%
Lightning - 19%
Warrior of Light - 18%
Terra - 16%
Yshtola - 14%
Onion Knight - 13%

Quote
Bartz

After landing specific attacks on an enemy three times, Bartz will have Mastered that attack, opening access to follow-up attacks.
Bartz can also steal an enemy's job class (assigned to each character for no one's benefit except for Bartz) by producing chocobo feathers.

Attacks:
Magic Sword attacks - Fire, Thunder, Blizzard
Straightarrow (hold down for extra hits when Mastered)
Goblin Punch (when Mastered, can be followed by a second Goblin Punch, and then by two Missiles)
Gil Toss, stolen from Warrior Of Light's Samurai job class. Can be charged up for greater range and spread of gil. Fully charged, Gil Toss will be followed up with an Iai Strike.

Quote
Squall

Squall can pull the trigger on his Gunblade attacks, adding an explosive burst for extra damage.
Squall can also use the Draw function to siphon EX charge from his enemies, and can Junction an enemy's character type for a short time (Heavy, Speed, Shoot).

Attacks:
Two seemingly different melee strings, each of which can be Triggered
Thunder Barret (summons five columns of lightning, each intended to hit the enemy closer to Squall than the last)
Blasting Zone (brings down a column of light on top of an enemy with his gunblade)

Yay, Squall has the Draw ability. I like those effects, I always liked them so I think it's great he finally has that move.

Oh shit, Squall's in. I was hoping for Laguna maybe since he was my favorite in 012, but considering the game will have 50, he might have a chance, IDK.

As for Bartz, I have mixed feelings about him, since he was never a fav of mine (although his gameplay wasn't that bad, but meh).

50 is just a ballpark of what they could go for if it's successful enough and Squenix keeps giving the OK.
I don't imagine it not being successful enough.
I don't really expect it to actually reach 50, though, maybe 40 to 45 in two years or more (depending on how fast they greenlight the increase and how much time they need for each character, especially once we start going beyond the 012 cast). Since they're starting with a low count and going up from there, it's pretty obvious they'll start with the main cast from the original game (plus the FF14 girl), then the 012 guys (including Laguna), and then onward.

The last thing they teased was Ramza but so far we haven't seen his model. Oh well, I'm probably getting a PS4 for this.

DLC is still a profitable business, so I can see them going that route to hit 50 characters if there's say 35-40...

Ramza was confirmed, not just teased right?
And yeah, gonna need to get a PS4 myself for this game(kicking myself so hard for being jobless during the PSP Dissidia era...)

Teased = confirmed
Well, confirmed isn't teased, but teased is confirmed. IIRC they only showed his original art from Tactics, or at most an updated version of it.

Still waiting for any actual information, but it'll take a while to get anything actually new. Most I expect for the first release is "oh, it's prettier".

S.D. Tifa and Yuna isn't there...
So it's almost ALL of the Cosmos side is there from Dissidia 012

I'm happy with everyone's revamped looks especially with Zidane since FFIX main sore point was the chibi models in which the PSP and revamped models helped clear up.

I'm more interested in the damage done to stages being even higher than before if that roadway in Lightning's stage may be a true gameplay mechanic, same with Meteor's fall in the new FF7 stage. The possibilities for true chaotic battles and HOPEFULLY summons that act less like effects and more like weaker assists would make this freaking INSANE

EDIT: Whoops, forgot Laguna, Prishe and Kain from 012 too lol.

They weren't in the basic cast though, I'm clearly not counting 012 because a bunch of characters switched sides in 012.

And I really wish they would scrap Onion Knight and acknowledge III DS and either call him Ingus or just make him Luneth or something.

Atleast in Dissidia, they make Luneth into a costume alt for Onion Knight...so there's that.

I guess I can take basic cast though.

Off the top of my head:

Mystic Quest has Benjamin
Crystal Chronicles series has multiple games with mains
Type-0 has Ace
Four Heroes of Light has Brandt

Hmmm not as many as I thought. The Legends games don't count since they're renamed SaGa games and only the third game had a named party anyway. Most of the mobile games are F2P games with no mains with the exception of Dimensions. The Chocobo games have always starred Chocobo so they don't count either.

They were all featured in the second Theatrhythm game so S-E cares about them at least. In fact Curtain Call could be used as a hint on which characters they might put in this game.

It's not just that they're popular, it's that Squenix recognises they're popular and pushes those games in new products, further driving their popularity. Like, when stuff like the iPhone apps comes out, the first major content adds are almost always from 7, 10 or 13.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Will Add Ramza Soon, Chaos Characters In Development

Dissidia Final Fantasy launched for arcade in Japan last month, and Director Takeo Kujiraoka recently spoke with Famitsu about some more characters that will be added to the action title in the near future.

During the interview, Famitsu asks when can we expect to start seeing additional characters to the arcade game.

“For now we’ve decided to open with the appearance of Ramza, then after his appearance, we’ll sequentially add characters one by one every month and a half or two months,” says Kujiraoka.

“I’m sorry I can’t be more specific for the time being,” he continues. “Production on the Chaos-side of characters have already begun, so please wait a little longer for more information.”

Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: SNT on January 27, 2016, 10:11:11 am
It will probably be him, but I'd rather it not. I can't see a character like him bringing much to the game gameplay wise.

I'm not even convinced the new game will be split across Cosmos/Chaos, but if I were to pick a XIII Chaos character it'd be Fang. She already spends a fair portion of the game as a baddie, the franchise has no other Dragoons but Kain, the franchise has no other Berserkers at all, and a Ragnarok EX form would fit right in alongside Terra's Esper form and Zidane's Trance.

Also just adding this: if a game ends in "-2" or "-3", it has no place in Dissidia.
Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: Xhominid on January 27, 2016, 10:16:38 am
Honestly, it would either be Barthandelus, Jihl Nabaat(for ANOTHER chance for people to get revenge on her), Caius Ballad(easily the biggest chance) or pretty much be party characters after that.

FFXIII as a Trilogy doesn't really have that many defined villains that can be usable within the game itself...and I like that whole trilogy.

But for variety sake, it would either be Jihl or Caius since Barthandelus would need to be retooled hard to work.
There's also Cid of XIII too but I'm not sure how well he can work as Chaos.
Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: Mgbenz on January 27, 2016, 01:58:58 pm
Nah definitely not Jihl. She was pretty throwaway and had an anti-climactic death. Between Bartha and Caius it's definitely Caius that had the biggest personal relation with Lightning.

Between Bartha and Caius it's definitely Caius that had the biggest personal relation with Lightning.

Pretty much this. Its the reason why Golbez and Jecht were chosen over Zemus/Zeromus and Yu Yevon for their respective games. That and Caius actually succeeding with his plan in 13-2 which led to the events of Lightning Returns, where Caius is still alive and well. Not to mention the fact he possessed the Heart of Chaos, as well as his entire relationship to Yeul & the Chaos as a whole. If that doesn't make him a likely candidate for being included in Dissidia, I don't know what does.

That being said, as much as I would like to see Dysley/Barthandelus in the next Dissidia, I'm not sure how they could make that happen, unless they do what they did with Ultimecia's Greiver form and redesign it entirely to be smaller & completely humanoid.

I hope they announce the game is coming to the Playstation 4 during E3.

I'd rather expect them to wait for the villains to be ready and the original story mode to be redone. Regular updates on the same principle as SF5 would be fine, but given what even the first PSP game had, it would be a shame to not start with something close enough. Maybe next year.
(I don't want people to blow up over this game like they did SF5 for having a laughable story prologue and no "arcade mode" or single player content beside survival - but then again, not the same crowd)

The rhythm for new characters isn't all that good, and they're probably trying to get the cast of the first game at the very least before they even start doing anything on console. Then it'll depend on what kind of expansion capability they want to give the console version. Either very few updates, in which case they'll wait even longer for the first console version ; or packs, like a Duodecim pack, which means long wait time between each pack ; or like the arcade, one at a time every few months. All in all, the problem is the time it takes for even one character.

Now why would they release a star character from a game that suppose to come out in a couple of months.
There is tons of characters they can pick from that hasn't been in Dissidia.

Think about this Lightning didn't appear in the first Dissidia game. Final Fantasy XIII came out in 2009. Lightning didn't appear until the next Dissidia game two years after FFXIII was released.

Noctis probably won't show up until some time after FFXV is released.

Edit: I see them using Noctis as the main marketing tool if they ever release Dissidia out on console.

There's no need to act like there isn't a case for it not being Noctis. The first Dissidia didn't include Lightning, with the claim that putting her in would've been spoilers for FFXIII. That's just as good an excuse for Noctis not making the cut this time.

That said, it will probably be Noctis. Can't know for sure until the end of the month.

I don't see why it cant be Noct... I mean we had two demos playing as him already... plus it doesn't seem like this Dissidia has any storyline as yet... so not like it will give any FFXV plot points away..
Other companies have done this before to promote their games... like PlayStation all stars had new Dante in it I think a few months before his actual game came out?
Plus putting in Noct would make them sooooooooo much cash.

We still don't have Jecht or Yuna yet, I wouldn't expect Auron any time soon.

Honestly I always thought the SeeD Cadet uniforms looked better than the Officer outfits, especially on Squall.

Every character has three buffs they can activate in a match, one of which is unique to them. The unique one is usually that character's old EX Mode. As for the limit breaks, everyone's Brave and HP attacks have changed, some old EX Bursts got reworked into new HP attacks.

Right now FFX has the equal-most representatives in Dissidia, that already makes it one of the less likely ones to get more. Even if they do add a fourth FFX character, that's probably more likely to be Seymour than Auron.

Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: SNT on August 14, 2016, 07:23:29 am
Personally I couldn't care less whether one game doesn't get a villain, just so long as there's a mix of play styles, or at least a mix of FF classes. About half the cast are variations of guy-with-sword, with different levels of magic casting mixed in to the sword attacks; meanwhile, say, the Dragoon class is represented by one guy. Gimme Fang, gimme Freya, gimme that new busty dragoon from XV, mix it up a bit.

The problem is normally the most memorable character of the game is the protagonist and the villain.

And normally the protagonist is The Guy With The Sword. Which means most the game is going to be sword people since people want the memorable characters before any other.

I don't know what they was thinking designing Materia's(The girl's?) outfit. It's like they wanted to stay away from her looking too much like Cosmos and just tried making something original from her even if it made no sense.

And damn it guys, now I can't stop thinking of Spiritus looking like Xenmas now...

And I find it hilarious that they introduced the new faction leaders...way before both sides characters was truly finished yet.
All Spiritus has is Garland and Kefka and Materia now gotten Ace along with Ramza, Kain and every other Main Character in the series.

Since this is a reboot of the Dissidia series, it makes sense why they would ultimately drop Chaos and Cosmos and make these new guys but still, I wonder if they will have something to remind us of them.

Materia's(The girl's?)
Yeah. Spiritus calls her out in the video. I'm surprised they didn't try to make it a bit more obvious than just having the guy say the girl's name for no real reason in the middle of a throwaway sentence. It's like they realized at the last minute that they didn't say who was who and they couldn't think of a better way to slip it in. Where are the name tags that everyone else has ?

I'm quite curious about these two, though. They're both saying this world is theirs, and they're both calling out to the heroes for help, and Spiritus is quite clearly not a bad guy even though he's replacing Chaos. I don't really get if these two are enemies or if they're just rivals but working together.

======

For some reason I was expecting an English trailer to come along soon enough, forgetting that this was for Japanese arcade. So I'll translate what they're saying since it sounds interesting :
M : Do you see this beautiful world ? But this appearance is only temporary. This world is heading to its destruction. Everyone, please, save my world, with your strength-
S : You say this is your world ?! Shut up, Materia ! This is my world. You guys, my world is headed to destruction, come fight for it !
M : The faces of the heroes who remain in my memory...
S : The strength that the warriors once dedicated to me... Together, let's make use of it !

So Spiritus seems to be some deity of bravery, guts and strength, this type of thing, calling for the kind of heroes that won't stop punching back (he says the heroes devoted / consecrated their power to him), and Materia seems to be a deity of undying justice and kindness or something like that, if I could venture a guess based on the specific heroes they seem to summon (although I think some of them appear for both of them, but they do seem to be fighting each other in the last group shot). I just can't tell if Materia and Spiritus are both facing each other, both thinking this is their world and the other needs to GTFO, or if they are supposed to work together - I can't tell if Spiritus' "together" is about the heroes or about Materia and himself and they just don't like each other but they'll fight for the world they share. Context says it doesn't seem likely that his "together" is about the heroes, but the final shot has them facing each other, so I dunno. I'm really curious. Spiritus is a type of character that I really don't think I've seen much in games and stories before, no one dares make a story putting a god of fighting on a pedestal like that. Like an asura, but the good kind.

The trailer made it seem as if some of the protagonists are on his side too, like Shantotto and Squall. In duodecim they expirimented with heroes being on Chaos' side (Cloud, Tidus, Terra) so I actually hope they take that concept again and push it's boundaries. Some villains being on the Materia team would also be cool, like Golbez.

I'd like to see Altima in all her Tecmo glory as well, but alas, I feel like if they add a rival for Ramza it will end up being Delita.
In the same way we got Jecht instead of Seymour.

delita is ok but what will they do to make him different from ramza? i'd rather see a gria or a seeq race to represent other tactic series or one of those prima donna girls from a2 they look cool.

Based on what we're seeing the trailer, I feel like the setup is going to be something like "Two gods who are supposed to be working in harmony suddenly decide they have beef and start a big fight to settle their hash."  Looks like their world is dying and each one blames the other.  So they both scoop up a handful of heroes to fight each other and boom, there's your plot.

Still. Should. Be. Ultima. >_<

Ace was a surprise, I totally forgot about Type-0 since I never played it nor seen anything for, despite the fact that they're shoehorned into every crossover FF game ever. >_<

At least it's not lame Noctis!

I don't remember Ultima doing shit beside appearing at the end and just being there. It's still the same Jecht/Seymour discussion, Delita as a character (unrepentant traitor) makes more sense than Ultima, even if Ultima would have bigger moves. Delita can easily have a cool and unique moveset too. The only bad points of Delita is that he's a dude and he has a sword, that's it. His style doesn't even need to be based on his sword, his design can be changed to reflect his treacherous/curse-oriented style with the divine knight stuff being his strong HP attacks.

Yeah, it's kinda sorta the same reason that the Chaos side doesn't have Zeromus or Necrom as IV and IX representatives.... EVEN THOUGH, we got Cloud of Darkness out of nowhere (I suppose they needed another "female" other than Ultimecia), III's Chaos representative should've been Xande.

Jecht is a bit of an oddball, he is more related to Tidus than Seymour and the story sorta builds around Tidus feeling resentment for him, but to be fair Seymour is the one who pesters the party for a good 90% of the game.

Yeah, I know that she didn't do anything and was at the end of the game much like Cloud of Darkness and Necron were. It probably will be Delita though. Or Wiegraf. Either or.

Atleast Square tried to clarify why they chose Jecht over Seymour(even though Jecht isn't even close to a villain in any capacity, atleast the sequel gave a better reason) as Jecht is far more Tidus's rival than Seymour as he's Yuna's rival(which makes the decision to have her but then not have Seymour all the more baffling...but then again, the sequel itself is pretty baffling since it only added more heroes and no villains).

Xande honestly would have just been Proto-Seymour(or Seymour is Xande 2.0, your pick). Atleast with CoD, she has presence due to her source being the Void, the force that binds the universes together just like the Rift(Yeah Exdeath fits too but she seems to be THE representative of it considering XIV)

Depends on the game (Then again they're all the same Gilgamesh, expect for Type-0, I think?), but not really. Gilgamesh isn't exactly a villain.

Gilgamesh would only be a villain on a technicality. Otherwise even in FFV, he's more...of a nuisance at times from what I hear.

Atleast show off the FFXIV villain(better be Gaius) or the FFXIII villain(which will be Caius) or hell, please bring in Seymour(yuna will be an obvious given and the only reason he wasn't in was that they stated that Seymour is more Yuna's rival than Tidus...which is true)

Wow, Kuja looks even more like a female than ever... and he already looked enough like a girl as is.

Kuja is in my top 3 if not favorite FF villain glad he finally got revealed now if only they could announced a PS4 port but at the rate they are revealing characters i guess that won't happen till 2019.

He's my Number 1 favorite villain to be honest.

EDIT: To go on a bit further, He seems to have gained a whole new move and I think Zidane did too(Unless Zidane always had a move where he can move around with Solution 9 I think it is) so I hope they actually build more upon the fact that Kuja is classified as a Red Mage in FFIX than make him just another Black Mage,

And yeah, a PS4 version won't be showing up for quite awhile at this rate, I think they reveal every new character like every 2-3 months.

PS4 VERSION COMING
Called Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, has all the arcade characters to this point so far plus Noctis who's getting revealed tonight later. Trailer is also subtitled in English, and features English HUDs and menu items, which would make this the first concrete confirmation of a Western release.

New stage got added too, the Floating Continent from FF3. Also revealed their update schedule. A character's getting revealed next week (maybe Noctis), then another new character every month starting August.

I saw the trailer myself through Ashex10's channel, but those details...
A new character every month is so much better than every 3 months...too bad they will still most likely be characters that was already in the past Dissidia games.

But I hope they add alot more characters too since this is 3 vs. 3 as having the exact same roster would really not make things unique from that perspective.

Sora and Aqua as DLC, but they have to go to Disney for that one...
And even then, I heard that this will ONLY be for Final Fantasy characters anyway as due to the Team Ninja collab, people asked that same question if DOA or NG characters would be in it and they said no.

Consider that Sora was also in World of Final Fantasy. I think Disney would be more than willing to lend Sora to Dissidia, if only due to the inevitable ad revenue for KH III.

Personally I would absolutely LOVE to have Sora as a guest character too. I'd love Neku from The World Ends with You too, but I feel like he would stand out way too much in the world of Dissidia. Sora is a more natural fit mechanically and visually.

On a last note, Mat Kishimoto of Square Enix America asked the developers if the UI and HUD, which can be a little intimidating with the many bars and numbers, is finalized. Director Kujiraoka said that the use of such flashy UI/HUD is a trend in Japanese arcades so it was made with that in mind, but the developers are talking about simplifying it for the console version and they’re already working on a prototype. He’s confident we’ll have something simplified for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and hopes you guys look forward to it.

Even if we got some extra, it's still a given that they need to finish the original cast first. Take the unexpected Ramza and such as a bonus, not the norm.
I think they already teased shadow for Golbez and CoD or something, so we're still getting those before anyone new.

They teased all of them. The shadow they shown was a mix of all villains that haven't been added yet.

And Ultimecia. You don't just skip the SSS-Tier time goddess that dominated the meta in the first two games.

Speaking of which, that squealy girl on the stream indicated the next reveal would be a woman, so it's either her or Cloudy D next month.

And Ultimecia.
She was in it too ? I just saw the shadow blob and a hint that there were mutliple people in it, didn't check who exactly. Basically everyone then, they're saying they're nearly done ? Who else is left from the original cast ?

I believe it will still be based on EX Mode as Kuja showed you still get benefits from doing certain things.

So basically, he will have the same gimmick, it just won't be tied to EX.

One of the big feedback points from the beta was that the old HUD was cluttered and too obstructive. This is a step in the right direction, just needs a bit more elbow grease.

Dude... you're fast as fuck, let me have it once.

Laguna will definitely enjoy to see CoD again, also, her japanese voice makes her sound like an old lady, hope Laura Bailey dubs her again.

And i don't how to feel about her being Heavy Type, i was expecting Golbez to be heavy, but well...

Well to be fair... her voice actress is somewhat old. Assuming this is the same actress from the original Dissidia games. She was born in 1939. So... yeah. Unless I calculated poorly, she's about 78. (Which, I could have.... Math isn't a strong suit of mine.)
Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade

But that's still a very Japanese thing they do with voice actors, it's like a loyalty thing which can get a bit ridiculous when the voice actor is clearly too old to play the character right.

I mean yeah Cloud of Darkness isn't human but I don't expect an old lady from her.

There's an open beta for this going on now until the 21st.  It's got 15 playable characters that get changed out every couple of days.  Anyone else getting in on it?  I've never actually played a Dissidia game before, so the targeting and movement is taking some getting used to but on the whole it feels really good.

I've been playing it since it came out.  Been stuck to Lightning because alongside just liking the character she's also really fun to play, so I kinda skipped out on actually trying Cloud and Squall who I wanted to test before they went.  Whoops.  Tried Firion a bit as well but I just didn't understand him before he was swapped.  Trying out Sephiroth now, and it goes without saying but god damn, that sword literally stretches from one end of the screen to the other.  He's a bit slower than I like but he's still fun as well.

I also did not play the previous ones, on account of not dealing with PlayStation's handheld system(s), so I'm both lost story-wise and new to the gameplay, but it's not terribly hard to pick up and it's a whole lot of fun.  I sincerely wish there are 2v2 and 1v1 options as well, though, because getting tagged to some terrible A.I. that can cost you the match even when you are playing perfectly just sucks the fun right out of any game.

Also, play Dissidia 012 on PPSSPP if you ever get the opportunity, its a really fun game that I've been playing constantly for two years straight.

Oh, fantastic.  That was my biggest worry thus far, seeing it plays fine, looks fine and while there are characters I would like the selection currently is perfectly fine, but while the majority of matches I've had online have been stable there have been a handful that lagged due to someone dragging down the other 5.

And I really don't dabble with emulators too much, but if this continues to be fun I may make an exception for a past title of this series.

I'm actually kind of surprised by the characters I'm gravitating towards in here.  Games like these I usually prefer the up close rushdown type character, but I've been gotten my best results with Shantotto of all people.  All kinds of fast, homing projectiles all over the place.  I wish I could've had more time to practice with Y'Shtola before they swapped her out, too.

Also there must be something about this game that draws all the weebs out, because every freaking match I play there's at least two dudes with usernames that include the words Sasuke and/or Uchiha.  >_>

It's good that your starting here because most people who played the original games and myself included are struggling to accept this game because the introduction of team gameplay and lack of RPG-like features that the originals had is really hard to adjust to. The game feels a bit dumbed down, which can be good and bad. I won't be buying it full price but I'm sure I'll grab this later down the line.

So in a pre-launch livestream before the Japan release, SE dropped some hints (http://www.siliconera.com/2018/01/10/dissidia-final-fantasy-nt-shares-hints-six-season-pass-dlc-characters/) about which characters are slated for the first wave of DLC.  Apparently, it looks like this:

New male character (from new half)
New male character (from old half)
New female character (from new half)
New male character (from new half)
Female character who previously appeared in Dissidia Final Fantasy series (from new half)
New male character (from new half)

Assuming that they mean numerically with "old half" meaning 1-7 and "new half" meaning 8-15, then the returning female character is probably Yuna.
Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: Byakko on January 25, 2018, 03:13:17 pm
uh. Maybe if "new half" means 3D then the returning female would more likely be Tifa, but that aside, we're just skipping almost all the 012 newcomers, and most of the NT new characters are from > 7/8 games. Dissidia started as a love letter to the old games but this time they're pushing the later entries... Weird.
The new girl could be Rinoa, Rikku (probably not), or someone like Fang ? A more in-your-face Lance user would be nice.
Not even gonna try to guess the 3 new "later half" males. Or the "old half" male (but I suppose Locke has been expected for a long time).

For the ‘old half’ male character I’m going to guess it’s either Vincent (if 7 does count for that) or Minwu.  Too many to guess on the new half side, but it’d be nice to see Yda or Gaius for some more XIV representation.

Alright so I'm guessing old half is FF1-6 and new half (3D era) is VII to 15

New male character (from new half)> I think this will be someone from recent titles in order to cross promote, maybe even someone from XV
New male character (from old half) > Locke Cole or Minwu
New female character (from new half) > I'm thinking this will be someone from FFXIII but I don't really care for XIII
New male character (from new half) > I want it to be Auron, Vivi or Vincent pretty badly prety badly
Female character who previously appeared in Dissidia Final Fantasy series (from new half)> The only options here are Prishe, Yuna and Tifa. I think it might be prishe given that XI probably won't have a second rep and hopefully
New male character (from new half) >again my hopes are on Auron, Vivi or Vincent, I think Auron or Vincent will depend on wether Tifa or Yuna get in. The devs also (sort of jokingly) mentioned that 'Zack Fair' would have to be in at some point but I seriously hope he'll be some sort of special costume/skin for Cloud.

Out of the blue guess; when KH3 nears release we get Sora as a cross promotional guest character

That's the only way I see it, why the hell would they add a completely new character that looks and play almost the same as one who is already in the game!?

I don't think Vivi's very likely, mainly because they've already got the "vertically challenged Black Mage" archetype covered with Shantotto.  It's too bad too, since Vivi's fucking cool and the rest of the FFIX crew aren't exactly super popular or well-known.  Maybe Freya?

Sora's not gonna happen either, since all the original KH characters are owned by Disney, not Square.
Title: Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade
Post by: Long John Killer on January 26, 2018, 12:50:04 am
Sora did appear in World of Final Fantasy, however.  I wouldn't write it out as an impossibility, but unless they really expect this game to be of high interest by the end of the year, when KHIII promotions should be coming around and they were up for having him show up as DLC held off for that long, it's probably not going to happen.

That said, Sora fits into the gameplay of this game like a Mickey Mouse glove.  I would love the possibility to play as him in this.

Anyways, my vote's on the new/old split being 2D to 3D rather than numerical.  And the previous new half contender is going to be Tifa.  They've been promoting her in the tie-in iOS Dissidia game.  That and Rem from Type-0, which would be an unexpected second Type-0 rep if she's the new female rep but I wouldn't be particularly against it.  Though I would also like Fang as well, she was a fun character in XIII and Lightning Returns.

It's good that your starting here because most people who played the original games and myself included are struggling to accept this game because the introduction of team gameplay and lack of RPG-like features that the originals had is really hard to adjust to. Well, I voiced my concern before about the team battles, seeing the issues apparent as well, but was told they're optional, so it's not that big an issue in that case.  The RPG element I've been iffy on every time I see the older titles.  Unless the multiplayer has everyone at default or at least mirrored levels, it always seemed to me a game that would be inherently stacked against any newcomer.  Like, I think of it like Pokémon, where if they didn't keep everyone at level 50 and lock specific broken characters, everyone would just be running rampant at max level with unfair choices, likely gotten easily through cheats and just kill off anyone's desire to play online.

I mean, it sounds real cool in single-player, and it's not completely gone with some level of customization still present here, or at least in the open beta it seemed so.  But for multiplayer, I'd rather the bonuses one can achieve for themselves be limited to cosmetic differences at most.

True dont get me wrong i do love the game but done see myself playing it everyday it needs more variety instead of just adding the dlc's like more weapons or hell give some states to the weapons make more skins for the characters and i wish they would have added more songs from ff8 they just got some of the battle music none of edeas or ultimecia music which i really liked :(

Once again I'm reminded that I would love to play this game, but I don't want to pay for Playstation's online subscription fee on top of already paying for Xbox's just for this one game.  Really wish this would make the jump to the other console, because you really don't get far on single-player alone, and I have much more friends on Xbox who would play this than PS4-owning ones.  They already have been porting all the actual mainline FF titles to it, might as well get this too.

Complaining about consoles aside, looks good, would love to play her.  That's an awfully weak-looking Final Heaven, though?  In comparison to FFVII or other spin-offs like WoFF, anyways.  Eh, can't get too ridiculously over the top, I suppose.
