Hm.  Either Mitsurugi cleans up incredibly well or we took a jump back in time.  Yet Sophitia's outfit and glimpses at previous cutscenes would suggest we're still going forward.

Regardless, glad to see it's still alive.

i would think this is a jump back in time since mitsurugi looks considerably younger and sophitia looks alive

Could be pulling an MK9 and soft rebooting things after V's trashfire of a story.

I'd kinda want this game to be series reboot, but MK dropped the sequential numbering for that (even if they ultimately restored it with X) while this is clearly SC "six".

Sophitia's design looks like her SCII outfit, so maybe it's a SCII-SCIII interquel?

Got hyped when the announcer spoke and leads to the gameplay.  Also hoping it's a reboot that resets SCV's story.

Post by: Mgbenz on December 08, 2017, 04:34:46 am
Fuck this if it's a reboot to SC. Mitsurugi looked the best in SCV and they're just gonna turn him back to his bland young SC self. Talim is too young during this time period and Bangoo will never be playable.

Post by: Long John Killer on December 08, 2017, 04:39:45 am
I wouldn't mind it getting the Mortal Kombat 9 treatment.  SCV didn't exactly end in a doomsday situation as I recall, been a while since it came out and I played the story mode, but yeah, we can rewind a bit from the incest love story.  Though I gotta agree, Mitsurugi looked the best when he was older in V.

Might as well talk about it now that it's confirmed, but guest characters.  I've discussed with a friend about possible guest stars before a few times.  The Witcher guy seems viable, though I have zero interest in him showing up.  I think the two we agreed that would work, have some level of appeal without turning away old fans and be weird enough for their outlandish choices would be Naruto or a Digimon rep, both due to their good relations to Namco Bandai and general worldwide popularity.  More the later for Naruto, the former for Digimon, though it apparently has been doing well with Digimon Story.

Not that I particularly see either being used, Naruto would either need to be like Angol Fear or be weirdly realistic, and honestly WarGreymon could work but would be weirder than freaking Darth Vader and friends.  Yet Tekken had Gon, so hey.

Myself, if this was done a few years prior, could see and wouldn't mind Lightning of Final Fantasy fame.  But since then we've got a pair of new entries and Noctis, who's bizarrely over in Tekken now.

About time... V was, to be fair, a bit of a disappointment. The story left out most of the cast and felt rushed to me. The game play wasn't bad, but the character changes made things feel foreign. At least Asteroth kicks ass and if he's not in here, I'm going to riot.

Now since guests are a possible plan... My idea is this: Since you already have SNK and Namco team up for Geese in Tekken 7, why not bring in a fighter from Samurai Shodown for Soul Calibur VI? I'd gladly pay $100 if I can get Kyoshiro or Wan-Fu in this game... maybe an extra $25 for Neinhalt Seiger as well.

I am erect.

Undo the trash fire that was SC5's story and most of its characters, put SC2 or SC3's level of effort into the game, and I will be a very happy boy.

Give me Hwang back pls k thx

Put me solidly in the camp hoping for a reboot or an interquel

V went off the rails too far

Of course I suppose that could be Mitsurugi's son Mitsurugi and Cassandra's daughter Sophitia

It's honestly hard to say if this will be a reboot because from what I heard apparently, there was some other Soul Calibur game that was released around the same time as Lost Swords(ugh...) which actually explained that Sophitia wasn't dead after all and she was somewhere else.

But hey looking at Mitsurugi, this could easily be a reboot-sequel like Mortal Kombat IX so who knows.

So hey, overlooked it before, but just noticing that they're skipping out on a Switch version.  Well, there go the dreams of Link returning.

Wonder why they opted out of a Switch version.  They got other games planned for it, prime opportunity to cash in on everyone being in love with Breath of the Wild as well.  Though I do suppose Link would be designed different than his Ocarina of Time version SCII used; bombs work different now, no mainstay boomerang or bow, even the Master Sword is downplayed, though I couldn't imagine they'd remove his signature weapon.
Title: Re: Soul Calibur VI

the switch is comparatively severely underpowered and they probably think it's not worth the effort

Isn't Fighterz going on it?  How drastically different are we expecting this game to be over Fighterz? Evidently, I screwed up Switch with Steam.  I thought Fighterz was going to the Switch this whole time.  Whoops.

I'd like to argue that graphics also don't really matter, I'm enjoying Doom 4 being portable considerably more than sitting at a desk on a computer or laying on the couch for the Xbox, but I already know that isn't going to fly when trying to sell a product.  Still, what a damn shame.

Anyways, the official pages for Soul Calibur have been updating their profiles to match the announcement of the new game, and this is their current cover art (https://www.facebook.com/SoulCalibur/photos/a.359221184121220.80365.157579717618702/1640698122640180/?type=3).

So I'm gonna go lean now to yes, it's a reboot, considering they're showcasing the old Soul Calibur/Edge.

We also got new Mitsurugi artwork.

maybe they are doing with Sophitia and Mitsurugi the same thing with Kazumi in Tekken 7 , in which she was a flashback character, I don't mind it for as long they give back Taki (While being aged) and Aean along with Ivy

SCV was set in the 17th century. May not see the timeskip characters at all in SCVI.

I know this is still new and they've barely shown off much at all, but character customization not being a key feature is a tad bit worrying.  It was one of the main reasons for its longevity for me in IV and V.  I would certainly hope they're weren't planning on ditching it.

I was actually rather hoping that they did something akin to Devil Jin in V, in that it being the case that they can't include the actual characters like Z.W.E.I. or Viola, they would at least allow you to represent their playstyle through custom characters.  Pipe dream if they could also do that with the guest stars of past titles, just replacing the copyrighted stuff with similar knock-offs, but I really enjoyed playing as Link, Spawn, Darth Vader and Ezio, and it would be a shame if those fighting styles were just lost.

Not so sure about all that. We can date all the games in the series by Soul Calibur 2, set in 1591. SC3 and SC4 are within months of that. The original Soul Calibur was in 1587, and Soul Edge three years before that in 1584. The only really huge timeskip is Soul Calibur V, which is seventeen years after SC2/3/4 in 1607.

So if we're assuming the new game is set in 1587, let's say if you were at least 18 by SC2/3/4, you're in with a chance of making the cut. While the younger Soul Calibur V characters are definitely out of the picture, this doesn't automatically count out Raphael (28 years old during SC1), Astaroth (wouldn't really matter how old he is), Cassandra (17, young but there have been younger), Yunseong (14, very young but not beyond the realm of possibility for a boy), Zasalamel (reincarnation nonsense), Setsuka (20) and possibly ZWEI depending on how old he is. Only ones I'd rule out from 234 would be Talim and Tira.

Counter evidence :
as I recall, Sophitia's tits grow larger and larger with time. She's humongous in this trailer. She must be like, at least 30.
I just had to notice that while going frame by frame to stare at that nice stylish duelist parry, with Mitsurugi stepping back until he can counter, or Sophitia swinging her shield with the same timing as Mitsurugi's fast multi-stab attack. It looks really cool. I'd be amazed if they actually came up with a mechanic that really makes parries that much life-like. I'd love to see how that looks with Raphael's style. (but I'd actually want a bit less special effect explosions blocking the view from that)

They could have just not brought them back especially when there storyline is pretty much finished. Rebooting the series and erasing more than a decade of story and character development just to ensure they don't come back because fans hated them is an extreme overreaction. SCV left many plot threads especially some that involved old characters that weren't playable like Cassandra and Sophitia. The reboot is pointless when they were leading to them coming back anyway.

They legit didn't know people actually cared for Hwang (and Li Long). They were surprised when people asked for him.

Well, it's not like Hwang is so magnetic, but Yun is pretty bad (mostly personality-wise, his design is just passable) and Hwang had a good design. In fact, it's more like they tried to go with the "genius kid" archetype way too often and that's just bad.
As for ronin Mitsurugi, the concept is fine but the way they actually did him in game always looked super bad IMO, that hair was never right, always really dumb. And the classic samurai version was fine.

SCV's plot had more unresolved loose threads and gaping holes than a sweater that got run over by a lawn mower.  The scorched earth approach may not be pretty, but it's probably for the best.  There's no fixing that mess.

This will be the first time I actually played a game in the series since SCII.

I really hope that there will be a Switch version. Potential guest characters (from Zelda and/or Fire Emblem) aside, it would make the perfect fighting game on the go.

famitsu interview https://gematsu.com/2017/12/soulcalibur-vi-theme-reboot-emphasizes-enjoyment-sword-fighting-single-button
Quote
Development was decided from the fact that it is the series’ 20th anniversary and there are still no 3D weapon-based fighting games on current generation hardware.

The keyword is “reboot.” We reviewed previous entries, and looked back on how users played and received each game.

We want players to know the world of the original Soulcalibur by solidly depicting its story once again. Part of that is the hope that not only current players, but also those who played in the past will return.

1586, the era of Soulcalibur, is an era of many unfinished tales.

New characters will appear. These will be important characters who have significant involvement in the story and such.

(Will there be guest characters?) “Please look forward to it!”

The basics parts of the battle system, which utilize vertical slashes, horizontal slashes, and running to fight, have not changed.

Movement speed and operability are being tuned to emphasize comfort so that anyone can play.

The most significant evolution is the introduction of the “Reveresal Edge” system, which is an attack that integrates offense and defense to defend against almost all techniques with a single button, regardless of whether they are high, middle, or low. By mastering this, even beginners can can read the moves of advanced players.

The game will emphasize how you can enjoy the fun of sword fighting with a single button. They are also fixating on production.
Critical Edges are also being prepared. While their command inputs were difficult in Soulcalibur V, they can be activated with a single button in Soulcalibur VI.

There is a system called “Soul Charge,” which is paired with the Critical Edge system. You can power-up for a certain time by expending the gauge. Soul Charge-exclusive techniques are also being prepared.

A “Lethal Hit” system is being prepared for advanced players. By landing specific techniques with certain conditions fulfilled, you can perform powerful combos depicted through special production and slow motion. By doing this you can destroy your opponent’s equipment.

If Mitsurugi’s lower body equipment is destroyed, he will essentially only be wearing a loincloth. If Sophitia’s hair accessories are destroyed, her hairdo will change.

Guard Impacts can be used without depleting the gauge.

We also want to offer a tutorial mode.

We feel that character creation is an attraction that cannot be removed from the series. We cannot say anymore, but please look forward to it.

Development is 70 percent complete.

SoulCalibur VI development started more than three years ago. And nobody knew anything about Switch back then. So, as a matter of fact we are not working on Switch, as of now. Ivy is showing a little less skin than in SCIV, and about as much as she did in the first games. The only major difference from her classic design is that she's missing the sheer fabric covering her belly. SCV is the odd one out, this is business as usual for her.

Eh, it's not as overt as IV's but there's a line between sexy and stupid, and this is less Witchblade and more "that looks painful to wear".  I always liked II's (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/0/0d/Ivy-sc2fix2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080206045834) and V's (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/c/ce/Sc5_pub_2d_ivy1-copy.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110721043239) versions the best, personally.

Apparently I've been saying Zasalamel's name wrong this whole time, if that trailer's anything to go by.  Oops.

I don't hate Ivy's design here, and I did in the last couple games.

I really can't quantify that in any way, just, this isn't setting off the same 'this is gross' vibes it did before.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Long John Killer on February 24, 2018, 05:10:38 am
Hum.  I guess I'm the odd one out, seeing this more like the mess IV had going.  Oh well.

You know what would be nice, though?  Since this appears to be around II's time, I liked the secondary in SCII for Ivy, would nice for that to return.

Rather than whatever the deal was with the last two games getting professional outfits designers or whatever to make up the secondary outfits for the cast.  I remember them touting that for at least V in magazines how they would get model designers to make outfits for them.  Like Bayonetta did with its amusing marketing, though I presume SCV didn't go the extra mile hiring porn stars to dress like them too.  Hey, there's still time for this game, Bandai Namco!

Ivy is known to be the sexy, scantly-clad, big-booby lady of Soul Calibur for many years now and I seriously doubt that the fact will change anytime soon. So why are people complaining about Ivy being herself now?

SJWs gainend a lot of notoriety through the past years, now they feel entitled to complain about everything.

Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Niitris on February 24, 2018, 03:33:42 pm
Not all criticism is from SJWs obviously, but it's reached a point where people are tired of being told what they should enjoy and are clapping back. The abomination known as games journalism doesn't help matters.
Quote
GameCentral: I know you can’t talk about other characters in the game, but the design and attire of a character like Ivy – whether she’s in the new one or not – are a lot more problematic today than they were when the series began. Is that something you intend to address?

Motohiro Okubo: [long pause] I understand that there are different opinions about such characters. So I think what’s most important is how you want to express and design such characters, and not just the female characters. But I still want to keep the body shape and the atmosphere of each character to be the backbone of each character.”

game looks good, used to love SC(dreamcast) and SC2 but this one looks very good, i mean the design of characters, interesting game mechanics,i think  it was a good rest for the team(or namco) to left the game for a while and then coming back with better ideas....

i stopped playing these series along ago, i remember buying a psx just for soulblade, a dreamcast just for soulcalibur, lucky me when it did go multiplatform with SC2,from 3rd to 5th  cared less for SC go from love to hate the series, and now, maybe that love for the game, a game with weapons is coming back as well

Gameplay and screenshots with Nightmare having part of his armor broken off show it's Siegfried underneath, though I did hear that this game apparently covers 1 through 3 of the original timeline or something?
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Knuckles8864 on April 13, 2018, 10:20:43 am
I do recall the first Soul Edge game (the arcade version which I played somewhere in Canada) had Siegfried in the game. Never got to the final boss because all I did was scrub out with Rock at the time.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Byakko on April 13, 2018, 01:39:43 pm
The first Soul Edge ended with Taki and Sophitia killing the first Soul Edge who was possessing Cervantes, then Siegfried walked in on the remaining sword, grabbed it and got possessed.

Edit - speaking of which, I'm also surprised they added I'm here since they do have him also physically under Nightmare's armor that can be broken off, but since they're adding him then I'm also disappointed that they aren't giving him his short hair back (from the first Soul Edge).

Maybe he is similar in that regard to Jin and Devil Jin, in which both are treated as separated characters even if both are one and the same.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Byakko on April 13, 2018, 03:39:43 pm
Only for gameplay. Devil Jin is an entity that we know is lurking around and might take over regular Jin at any time of the day if he gets in a bad mood or step in dog poo or something. But for Siegfried, we know he's basically sealed inside Nightmare and he's not supposed to come out at all. He's not supposed to walk around as Siegfried. Cervantes was a bad guy before going full Soul Edge then got killed and fully transformed with no hope of recovering - and then Soul Edge was killed and Cervantes came back in zombie mode.
Unless they come up with a brand new story justification that will negate the other games (if he can recover his original self at random without Soul Caliber or any purification / exorcism / whatever), this is probably like a dream match, it doesn't canonical happen but they just wanted to have him as a separate playable spot in the roster just because.

I got to be honest. This is the first time in the Soul series that I've ever thought Siegfried looks really cool, and fun to play as.
He seems more distant from Nightmare, gameplay wise. Kinda like Kazuya to Jin by now. Instead of ol Akuma & Ryu similarities.

In canon while using Siegfried as a host, the Nightmare persona would only move to action while Siegfried slept. Once Siegfried truly woke up, he would always be surrounded by corpses, thus making him vow to never sleep again. It never worked for too long though, as Siegfried would always eventually fall asleep and Nightmare would always go back on the hunt.

I actually think that's where Nightmare's namesake comes from. Don't quote me on that last bit, though.

With that having been said, if they do go with that and have this game take place during the timelines of SoulCaliburs 1-3, and include Soul Edge as well, that would easily explain why Nightmare is using Siegfried as a host body while Siegfried is also playable in the game.

Oh, really ? I thought he was always in nightmare mode. I remember his Soul Edge ending (I think it was as "Siegfried!" back then which was basically Nightmare) showing him in broad daylight walking over to the edge of a cliff overlooking some village, implying he was about to trash it. I don't remember any particular mention that he was able to suppress it while awake, but I'm okay with that.
It's just that I remember Soul Calibur justifying his absence with him being Nightmare, and they only brought him back in SC2 when he broke free of it.

Edit -
Well fuck me, I just Youtube'd it and I mixed up the two endings. Regular Siegfried gets possessed and threatens a town while in night time, then Siegfried! (Nightmare) breaks free and destroys Soul Edge then watches over a town in day time.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: R565 on April 13, 2018, 06:12:06 pm
Yeah, I guess he'll appear in between 2 and 3 story wise, unless they give us soul edge outfits for the original cast. This really is a retcon of V or at least fixing some things so the story doesn't go that way in the future. Aside from the story and Sophitia's children, I did enjoy a lot of other things the game had...also about the young newcomers, if Mitsurugi can fight, then so can the others. Maybe this retread is for the best of the series.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Project.13 on April 13, 2018, 08:02:07 pm
On the topic of the newcomers, I've said this before to my friends and on the SoulCalibur subreddit, and I'll say it here: I honestly want to see Patroklos in the game, but in fighting style only. Like, dump the character entirely and bring him back as a Create-A-Soul exclusive or something.

A lot of people may dislike the character himself, but I personally see no reason why a familiar, yet unique and honestly kind of fun weapon style should essentially go to waste.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI

At first I thought this was actually the one and only story mode and it's just that you're going through it while playing a custom character, but if this is more like the old Edge Master mode with its own tiny story separate from the main one, then the sorcerer is probably a boss in it, yeah. I'm just a bit confused that they're not bothering to actually explain it even though they're showing it. Why would they show a new boss so casually without saying anything ?

That is a stupid move, announcing your DLC before the game is released.

Apparently it was done because a lot of people have been heavily requesting Tira make a return, and they just didn't have enough time to properly put her in the game. Not sure why the change in voice actress though, sounds like Karen Strassman.

it's still stupid.

Meh, while I do get annoyed about DLC at times, since DLC is practically everywhere these days and I am getting tired of being annoyed by them all day long, I usually take it in stride...

In the other news, the launch date is less than two months away. Who is planning to get the game close to the launch date?

I get the vibe that he is Namco's take on G.

Think about it: G claims to be the "President of Earth" while Azwel claims to be the "Leader of Humanity". They can use some sort of power that they can tap at a moment's notice.

Its been fun playing so far today, but I've yet to get a match without lag thus far, and at this point I'm at rank C3 with Nightmare as a main.

Man, I thought I knew Ivy, but I guess my muscle memory only goes as far as Siegfried and Nightmare, I can't even remember how to extend the sword to laying freely or coiled whip.  I guess not playing SCV in years and only SCII when it was re-released rusts ya pretty badly.  It's also surprising that there's already players at a competent level with complete newcomers like Groh who can go for triple perfects without ever missing a beat or stop moving for anything.  Or maybe I just suck.

I guess it's just a stress test beta, so shouldn't expect much out of it but the bare bone essentials, but a movelist on what's new would be nice just to skim through.

It's not bad... if you open up your searches. I played a little bit on Friday and I got quite a few matches with Nightmare, Siegfried and one with Yoshimitsu (Boy, they changed him up big time).

It's only Ranked Matches, and the matches themselves are Best 2 out of 3 with a game being Best 3 out of 5 rounds.

When it comes to ranking, having a winning streak is key. My highest ranked character was Nightmare at G4. That came with at least a 3 match winning streak.

Game play wise, I love it. It's a fast paced game that can easily swing on whether you catch the clues on certain moves.

Oh, and Ivy is apparently borked as all hell....

For me, Inferno will be the final boss of Soul Calibur, since the two Soul Calibur games I remember the most fondly are Soul Calibur I and II.

Is Inferno a mimic fighter this time around, or does it have a unique fighting style to it?

with all these guest characters showing up in Soul Calibur, isn't it a wonder that Namco has not yet added a samurai showdown character to the mix? I honestly believe most would agree that both SC and SS fit perfectly with one another

Huh. Can't say I saw Inferno of all things coming back. Hey, even if it's offline only, still really nice to have the most memorable boss back.

after seeing Azwel Trailer  I found no reason to believe that Inferno was coming back, especially after being absent  from all the follow-up sequels  after SCII , and honestly, he is my least fav boss character since his fighting style revolve around mimicking other characters, I hope he doesn't replace Azwel as a boss of this game

The fact that apparently 80% of the game was cut didn't help matters much either. Even with that, I'd still say it's a pretty good game. Character creation is always fun, and the game itself feels pretty solid and balanced; With the exception of a few characters, you never feel incredibly outclassed,, and even then you can still win if you know what you're doing.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Long John Killer on October 06, 2018, 11:29:47 pm
At the time, story emphasis in fighting games was a questionable choice to include, typically left to be handled in other outside sources like with Street Fighter and their comics/shows/movies, but Soul Calibur was a stand-out exception that people typically enjoyed playing through.  SCV did itself no favors by yes, ditching much of the cast for reskins so they can keep the moveset but lose the character, and those that remained were more-or-less reduced to cameo roles like Ivy just being there to point which direction to go if not just not included in the story at all, but as I recall the ending was what really threw people for a loop with the whole incest thing between the two then-supposed new main leads to take over the series.

Now, for actual gameplay, I loved playing it online, was A1 for quite a while.  And since they introduced character creation its been a personal favorite of mine and SCV's was great, made a lot of characters through it. (Mostly Devil Jin people. because it looked less weird them punching people than hitting them with swords I guess?)  And I can only hope VI's CC is just as good if not better.  But yeah, from a purely online gameplay perspective, SCV was fine, sometimes really good.  But offline, even IV's weird inclusion of Algol, redesigned Siegfried and Nightmare and numerous guest stars not even counting the Star Wars bunch was so much better.

...Speaking of which, that was a fun if bizarre as hell idea, I liked it.  They should do that again, have a dozen or so guest star manga artists design their own takes on new Soul Calibur characters as mini-bosses.  We ended up with wood elves, gothic automations, oni and whatever Angol Fear (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/c/ce/Sc4-angol-fear.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080519035644) was.

There was a time I was deep enough into Sgt. Frog that I could answer that for you but thankfully those days are over

But I totally agree with you that they should have kept the manga artist gimmick

I mean would anyone really object to, say, a character designed by Yusuke Murata or Kohei Horikoshi being in the game
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Long John Killer on October 07, 2018, 12:00:09 am
If for nothing else, they brought some really out-there ideas for the game's world that the regular storytellers from Project Soul wasn't likely thinking about, like the thought of people actually going after Asteroth for the thing's he's done so they built a steampunk war machine to kill him.  Or demons out there who weren't on the side of Soul Edge.  Even more basic than that, just character archetypes to play that the regular development team likely hadn't even had cross their minds like before-mentioned steampunk or futuristic space god.  Variety's good, heck, Shura from SCIV was so popular fans were begging for her to become a new mainstay back then.  And was turned down, unfortunately, but still.

Not that I think a superhero character like something out of My Hero Academia would work in this setting per say, but the guy's got enough artistic talent to come up with something cool that probably would.  And there's plenty of people to choose from.

I would object because it feels wasteful to have an amazing artist like Murata come up with a cool design only for it to be used as a model swap of an existing playable character and then never be brought up again.

Ashlotte was brought up in V after her inclusion in IV.  Them being bonus characters reusing another's playstyle doesn't mean they can't still be referenced in other titles later on.  Heck, I'm pretty sure that android option in this game's character creation is specifically based on Ashlotte, from what it appears to be.  Now, them designing the characters just to be reskins of existing characters, that I can get behind being annoying, all the clones Smash has been amassing is personally annoying with how each of them could be something greater.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes SC5

I liked it, but the story was what killed it, not to mention the bad choice of removing great characters only to have them being replaced with less interesting copycats, I don't know what Namco or most Japanese developers have against female over the age of 40 being playable, would it really killed them to have Taki as a 40 years old being playable ? the only excuse I ever kept reading about is that she was ""Too Old to be a Ninja anymore" and adding her would make no sense, as if the story ever made sense, to begin with.

besides the story and characters, I was pretty much happy with Ivy and Hilda being in the game, and the online experience was rather satisfying, as it had the best net code I ever experienced in a fighting game

Pretty much, but VI is going to fix the story it seems. Loved what I played of the beta, and the scenes I did see of the Libra of Soul mode locked it in for me. It's basically a story driven weapon master mode with RPG elements to it.

Going back to the SC5 talk.... Honestly, I really liked playing it online. (Alas, I don't know if I'll be able to do that with 6, since the PSN is expensive.... I just wish they stuck to at least giving you a barebones internet for no money.)

And the character maker was at its best at that time. Looks like 6 is gonna basically have the same system.... I just wish they allowed you to make the face yourself, instead of being locked to a default set of faces. I mean heck, even Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires let you edit the faces. If this character maker had the depth of SC5, and allowed you to edit the faces. It would have been near perfect.

It's just kind of a shame that a lot of movesets will be lost in this version.... I had a human 02 (my avatar) character. And Viola's moveset worked surprisingly well.... Especially since I could turn the orb into a Dark Matter, thanks to the eye orb.

Honestly, the real thing holding me back from the CaS was the fact that in 4 and 5 is that they allowed their (and, well, everyone in general) is the armor breaking. Yeah, in SC5, I made Algol's son from SC4 as a CaS, and when his armor broke, all that remained was the loincloth. I don't mind seeing a nice ass, but its really embarassing when someone enters my room and sees him like that. I think it should be optional, like, you select which parts stay and which go (except for underclothes, of course), that way everyone can make the armor break as discreet or exaggerated as they want.

Dunno if it helps, but I noticed that with the taki  costume that the normal and the broken version are separate in the CAS.
I like that, torn clothes and broken armor can make a lot of difference in a CaS design, like a barbarian or a wanderer.

CAS characters use another character's entire moveset.

thats bad we wont be able to make a broken character to use offline.

Other than the several new characters introduced, the fact that there's supers now, that they turned Soul Charge into an install, stages aren't as simplistic as they were before, that you can make a custom character using another character's moves among other things, SC hasn't changed much since SC1.

which one left?

Wait, is this seriously the final roster? Are they just gonna leave the gap between Cervantes and the randomselect blank? Or is that Tira's place? Its an eyesore nonetheless.

It is probably DLC characters' slot. We will see once the game releases.

I think that's is where Tira is going. It would make sense.

Anyway, my wish for those last three DLC slots are...

-Hwang or Yunsung (It feels odd to not see either Korean fighter in the main roster while Seung Mina is there already)
-Edge Master/Charade/Olcadan (The series is known for the mimic fighter. I know that V really made it overblown with mimics... it's high time to reel that back in with just one)
-Hilde (At least throw a bone to the fans of this character. Not to mention that it would be nice to see her in the new timeline before her actual arrival in the series during the old timeline. BTW, I know people want Amy... but, my problem is simple: What makes her any different the Raphael?)

arent you happy now? why? because you told me this game worth 60 dollars for sure. and yes this is the final built accoring to a reviewer who has the game on pc.

Im happy with this game because I havent played soulcalibur sence Dreamcast but if I werent played the lastes games, I wouldnt be so happy. because this game looks as it should´ve been soulcalibur 5 on gameplay.

Is it Possible that some empty space is for unlockable characters? Lizardman with his Axe and Shield Moveset is an Enemy in the Singelplayer modes, so it could be possible that he and maybe some others are unlockable characters, and there are also some Rumors about Cassandra and Amy, but I don't know much about that.

Which rumors are those about Cassandra and Amy?

They appear in story Mode (With new Artwork design in Storydialog) but not as Enemys so far, but since the devs made complete new Designs for the characters, some people belief because of that, that both characters are unlockable or planned as DLC.

Makes sense to have em as dlc

This game roster wise is basically SC1 with some III and new characters thrown in the mix, 2 and IV characters coming later on sounds fine to me

Yeah, its just like Walruslui said. From what I remember, they said in interviews that the game will be mostly SC1 story, with some SE and SC2 added. Since SC2 happens in the same year as SC3 and SC4 (surprising, I know), then pretty much anyone until SC4 can appear. And since Cassandra and Amy are closely associated with Sophitia and Raphael respectively (in addition to being fairly popular), it would make sense for them to become DLC.

I was playing yesterday, random matches on internet and Arcade mode on very hard mode and I can tell you this game is pretty good and the creation mode is in another level. I was seeing skin characters  people have made for 15 minutes. and the best thing is :you can take them.
I havent played this game since dreamcast and you know I  was lost on combos and attacks. but the gameplay is easier than I remembered
I loved Talim because I see her gameplay really fun for a beginner like me. and also it can be played by the keyboard. I found easier to play with the keyboard than controller pad.

The fights are more crazy than SFV or Tekken thats the way I like fighting games. :coollove: a lot of moves, a lot of combos possibilities and good supers. everything in 11.5gb  :hyo:

On an unrelated note, I noticed that the fights tend to be much slower on my computer for some reason and graphics can get pixelly. Would the graphics card be the issue, since all I had is Intel's integrated graphics card.

Had that on my old laptop and I couldn't play anything without incredible slow down.

Pretty much if you want to play any PC game with intensive graphics, Intel's integrated graphics will hinder you.  You'll need a dedicated gaming graphics card.  Unfortunately, I believe the prices to get your hands on those are not consumer friendly at all.

Well, there are people making giant dicks on their CaS, so nothing really surprises me.

People being lewd and pervs in character customization is nothing new. We have Hentai and 18+ characters in MUGEN, why should people here be surprised?

On the topic of Custom Characters, it seems that there is a lot of controversy on allowing them on ranked Multiplayer. The thing that seem to piss some people off is that some of the items, when sized in a way, can absolutely conceal a character's movements. Another thing that seem to piss some people of is that changing the sizes do have an effect on reach and hitboxes. These two points seem to piss those people off to the point where they are petitioning Namco to ban custom characters from ranked online.

What do you all think about this? As for myself, I do not really listen to those people, since they remind me too much like those "No Items, Fox Only, Final Destination" tourney-tards that plague the fighting game community and take the game way too seriously. I had my fair share of balance-drama from MUGEN in years past and I am way past that point. I just am grateful to be able to enjoy Soul Calibur again.

To be completely honest, I understand people who complain about this, because there are many ways it can be made ridiculous. I saw a video in which you could see pretty much a bunch of colors moving instead of a regular body, which obviously would make it impossible to predict what the character was doing. But I cannot blame people who want to show their CaS to everyone (specially since, unless I understood it wrong, you can download CaS from other players, which is really cool). They could just add different queues for that: one allowing CaS and the other not, that would fix the issue quite easily.

But that'll split the player base between two different parts. While some games can handle multiple queues, those games have massive player bases. I believe that the Soul calibur 6 player base is too small for that and too small of a player population could sink a queue in a short period of time, killing it dead and worsen the quality of online play. Plus, it is unfair to people who are honest with their CaS creations, like myself. And believe me, the number of honest people outnumber the cheaters quite a bit, so you are punishing a innocent majority to attack a guilty minority.

Besides, I can handle a bullshit character or two. Trust me, we all have handled bullshit characters in MUGEN. A little suffering in Soul Calibur is nothing in comparison to what I have to go through in MUGEN back in the day.

If these Legitimate, tournament level players are so good at fighting games, then surely wacky characters wouldn't be an obstacle to them, no? The mere suggestion that wacky characters would be a big enough distraction to make them lose matches would indicate that their great skills would be an exaggeration. Or maybe I am over-estimating the abilities of these so-called tournament players.

Playing with created characters doesn't make anyone less legitimate, you know.

Legitimate in the sense of tournament level players.
Players outisde of turnament level are also legitimate, not everyone is supposed to be high level.

Legitimate in the sense of tournament level players.

not every single person that play fighting games are tourny level players, If fighting game were created just for Daigo level players than most people wouldn't even bother buying these games in the first place, which would lead to bankruptcy due to the failure of selling enough copies, and in the end the shutdown of companies.

most players play these games for the fan of it, a lot of these games also has bad net coding, so its not the same as playing in local tournaments.

Most people complained about how Devil Jin was terrible in competitive, but he was really good for the players who wanted a hand-to-hand fighter, just like Viola was great for a mage-like character.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Long John Killer on October 27, 2018, 11:46:47 pm
Yeah, I almost exclusively made characters modeled over Devil Jin because they could be done in the CaS, but look absolutely stupid with the weapons provided.

So, 2B....fine, I guess.  I've been sitting on this Day One copy of Nier: Automata since it came out and still haven't started it up because of my desire to do things in proper order and wanting to play all the previous Drakenguard games and the previous Nier before it, but I suppose I'll likely be playing this character in SCVI and would like to know about her more other than internet osmosis.  Which doesn't tell me much other than the game has a dozen endings, it really wants to pan the camera up her dress, the dev likes wearing a helmet/mask and is a rather horny guy.

Man though, reminding me of Cloud and Dante both just about almost making the cut previously then getting dropped, now I can't help but hope they're also in the season pass.  Despite it probably just going to be other fan favorites from SC games not yet in here like Hilde.
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI

To me, having 2B in is a bit of double edged sword.

While it's great to see a decent character come in and bring new stuff along like music, a stage and parts for Create A Soul, this knocks off one of the characters that people wanted in like Lizardman, Hwang, Cassandra and Amy. There's now two open slots... I can expect both of them to be characters that are legacy characters like Hwang or even Hilde (and before I get flamed... Sorry, but unless they can rework either Cassandra or Amy to be less like clones, then those two aren't getting in. Deal with it)

Okay, first off, neither Cassandra nor Amy are clones, yes, they have the same weapons as other characters, but in the last game they appeared (SC4), Cassandra played nothing like Sophitia and Amy had very small similarities to Raphael, while still being mostly original. If anything, they're both examples on how the developers are competent enough to make multiple movesets using the same weapon, so, no, there is no "deal with it" from you here, its your analysis that is flawed.

Also, regarding DLCs, they could easily make another season pass if this one with 2B and the other characters is succesful. Not announcing other passes now means that they keep themselves from cancelling any promise they have made, if they can't release more than what was currently announced.

If we're still talking Final Fantasy reps, I'm sure he's super forgotten at this point, but what about Zell Dincht from VIII? Still a Final Fantasy rep, and it would satisfy the desire for another hand-to-hand fighter, too.
If we get a Final Fantasy rep, I'd bet on Gladiolus, because he seemed quite popular on the latest FF game, or Cloud, because of the upcoming remake.

I would in this case like them to go with their usual option Nakoruru

Obviously personally I'd prefer other members of the cast but realistically it'd be her or Haohmaru because it's always them and there's so much crossover between Haohmaru and Mitsurugi since they draw from the same origin that I'd prefer someone with a different fighting style for CaS reasons

While I am appreciative of guest characters that'll help get more people into the game, I probably want the missing characters from Soul Calibur I and II's roaster first. Ah well, I guess I can just enjoy the fanservice anyway.

And don't get me started on Yoda's hitboxes. I kind of understand why people do not really like my Pikachus' sizes.

It's a fighting game.  Unless you're playing, like, Deadliest Warrior where the weapons actually cause fatal wounds and limbs would be lost upon contact, then you're looking way too far into it.

It doesn't even contradict extended Star Wars lore what with the wormhole to another dimension and sensing power through it like Yoda/Vader did.  Got that happening in The Clone Wars.

My only complaints with the Star Wars additions was how limited they made the Force powers work, what with instead of just being naturally used in their moves it was connected to a separate meter, the probably buggy difficulty Starkiller had when fighting his A.I. for some reason making him much harder than even Algol, and Yoda being made without consideration to the rest of the game's balance.  At the very least should have been grabbable.

but getting stabbed by a 15ft gigantic sword and still continue to attack is ok with you?

there's a ps game that has a 2 or 3 hits ko mechanic , you could choose what weapon you use i forgot the name of the game but soul calibur 1 reminds me of that game.

So, between the chi attacks and magic that empower those weapons, which, ironically, became more evident in SC4, you actually think a laser sword is too much? Not to mention, of course, that those characters are used to have weapons shoved on them all the time, seriously, Astaroth throwing all the weight of his giant axe against someone's head is much more dangerous than a lightsaber stab, specially because the latter's heat cauterizes the wound immediatly, thats why nobody in Star Wars bleed when they get stabbed.

That's precisly what I mean. People have complaints about Lizard dicks? Banned, like what I expected.

Now, if they address other complaints like those walnut fighters, the fanbase would be even happier. Not that I mind those walnut fighters too much.

I don't know how fair it is to say they "removed" the parts.  The parts weren't in the base game, so they can't be removed from it.  It's just content from a previous game that wasn't  included in this one at launch.

A lot of games publishers can get up to a lot of scummy things these days, but something like this seems thoroughly benign to me.

Yeah, seems like something they're just putting back in.  Not something to lose sleep over, specially if you got the season pass to begin with.  For the record though, the first, second, and some of the last screenshots have parts I've never seen before, which are presumably new.  Some of the other stuff looks like it's from 5's DLC (with the exception of that knit hat)

To pick apart, only the 4th screen shot is completely old parts, some of which were from the base games of SCIII, IV, or V.

3rd screenshot has the old denim jacket/pants from SCV.  Knit cap is new, correct me if I'm wrong.

1st and 2nd screens are completely new as far as I can tell.

Last screen is tricky.  I'm sure I've seen that bird head before, but the winged slippers, and that style of wings on the left... nah.  Not sure on the armor or that feathered skirt either, cause, well, the angle sucks in that shot.  I can safely say there's more new than old from these five shots though.

Turns out what I thought was new parts in the pack was just parts that were in Lost Swords. So there's literally nothing new there.

I don't know how fair it is to say they "removed" the parts.  The parts weren't in the base game, so they can't be removed from it.  It's just content from a previous game that wasn't  included in this one at launch.

That would not be problem if it weren't for the fact that base SCVI's CAS parts total is less than half the stuff that was in SCV even though literally all of them are recycled from V. The only new parts that were added are the costumes from the standard characters.

SCVI's CAS in general is a downgrade from V. A straight up port with cut content that are resold as dlc. It only added new voice options and the race selection. The race options aren't even unique since for many of them they just took CAS parts from SCV (like the elf ears and angel wings) and making them defaults.

We cannot have all DLC characters be guests, and 2B is already in the game, she was the first DLC character revealed after launch. Also, Amy is a very popular character (specially considering she wasn't really that important storywise, nor was she anything special in competitive), so it makes sense for them to add her.

Well, you and your friend will have to deal with it, Namco seems to have taken a page from Netherrealm's book and add fan favourites, which means Cassandra was a likely addition from the start.

I'm okay with Cassandra, just as long she is not a complete Sophitia clone like she was back in SCII.

Seriously though, I would like to have a sword-and-shield character who does not stick their crotch in people's faces. Hopefully, Cassandra delivers.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but they just added additional items to the customization list, plus a large collection of music from past games.

Nice to see SCII music added, but I neve played SCIII, so I need to catch-up to listening to them.

Looks like they added wedding clothes, so I bet I'll be facing a lot of female characters wearing bridal dresses for the next few days...

I want to ask the MFG a question regarding Soul Calibur VI:

I have heard a lot of discussion on other forums and websites like Reddit on why the game is not as popular as it should be in comparison to Tekken for example, from roster size to single-player and multiplayer experiences. However, I want to see what you all have to say about the subject. So the question I want to ask you all is this:

Do you think Soul Calibur is unpopular in comparison to other Fighting Games? And explain why or why not?
Title: Re: Soulcalibur VI
Post by: Macaulyn97 on July 08, 2019, 04:48:54 pm
I don't think its necessarily unpopular, I feel like its more of a niche franchise, that focuses a lot on the offline casual content and, thus, doesn't have a huge competitive scene, despite how many people play it. The series was always praised for its single player content, Soul Calibur 3, for example, had a hell lot of it, but in exchange, its gameplay was way too buggy until they released a fixed Arcade version that never came to consoles and nobody cared. I think Soul Calibur 6 is in the same situation, except without the bugs: it brings a lot of people to watch a competitive scene, but not many professionals are as interested in it, which, so far, it worked well enough, Namco considered it a success.

Jesus, its in the Season 2 DLC trailer, and it only shows Haohmaru, its not rocket science. Hell, DoA5 used this [Our Game] X [Guest's Game] thing all the time. Also, yeah, Cassandra getting in is definitely because she is a waifu, its not like she has any gameplay for people to be interested in, right?
