When you include the line facep2 = 1, the player will be turned, if necessary, to face the opponent at the beginning of the state. facep2 has the default value of "0" if omitted.

This parameter must be added to Statedef 40, just because Elecbyte forgot to add it. If this parameter is not present, the character will not automatically face the enemy after jumping over and holding the up+forward direction.

I've also seen, and used,
[State 40, turn] ;Turn if not facing opponent
type = Turn
trigger1 = Time = 0
trigger1 = p2dist X < -5

to fix that problem. Which way would/should work best?
