I love people who say our country was founded by god or based on the bible. An atheist writes a book called "Common Sense" which starts the revolutionary war. A group of enlightenment movement guys have a revolution, they make a deceleration that this country will be ruled by Man and Law and not Religion and a King, which was written by two atheists and one Christian enlightenment person. Then we have a war. Then we write a constitution that is completely devoid of god. Then less than 75 years ago, two wing nuts put, "in god we trust" on our money and make us say a pledge in the morning that says "under god"Suddenly we are a Christian, god founded, bible following based country. It boggles the mind.
+10000 dude as an atheist I can attest, it's more annoying than anything. And I'm not even gonna count the amount of times I got flak for not pledging.

Afraid you need to look at your history. Thomas Payne, Jefferson, and Franklin were Atheists. Adams was a devout Christian who's best friend was Jefferson (And worse enemy later), but believed in science. The congressman copied Adam's or Boston's constitution and those congressman varied from Atheists to Quakers. Now a days, an Atheist couldn't even win a primary, but back then, they were the founding fathers. Thomas Payne's book started the Revolution, Jefferson wrote the deceleration of independence which has god not capitalized and Men capitalized. Also the king was given his power to rule by God, so the deceleration of independence was independence from religion or church as well as England. So yeah,
I'm just repeating what I learned in my AP US History class. And Wikipedia confirms it:List of Deist thinkers, Wikipedia said:Benjamin FranklinThomas PaineJefferson wasn't strictly a deist, he was more like an agnostic:Thomas Jefferson, Wikipedia said:The religious views of Thomas Jefferson diverged widely from the orthodox Christianity of his day. Throughout his life Jefferson was intensely interested in theology, biblical study, and morality. He is most closely connected with the religious philosophy of Deism, and Unitarianism. He is reported to have said, "Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear."
You are right about Jefferson because of writings of his that I read, but Payne? Come on man. He hated Christianity and or theism?Alright I'll just give in so we can stay on topic, and the point still stands that they were not Christians. I mean hell, Jefferson wrote a version of the new testament that had all the impossible stuff taken out. It was only a quarter or the original size after.
