Finally making a male character Zero-Sennin?(as far as I know all your characters are female I think)

Are you aiming for accuracy for this one? How is this one going to differ from Warusaki3's version exactly? I haven't played the original source game so can you fill me in with more details if possible? Or with sometype of video of the WIP or something?

A two in one character isn't that scary BTW use the variables and palno's!  ;P

Little known FACT: If you use the equation, (z)velocity = (((x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2)^.5) / time and z = a small decimal number in mugen you can get something that follows something else. Useful for heat seeking missiles, black holes, magnet effects, a projectile aimed for an enemy's head... Seriously, try it! It's awesome!

Well, just finished the Lv. 3 and the slash FX, so I'll be putting him out for private betas sometime this week.

To answer your questions, Speedy:

-I've made a couple of male characters, but that was when I was still kind of mediocre. (ZEE KUNG FU MAN, Frio from Tales of the World, Pocket Ken).
-I don't especially adore CvS2 style gameplay, so no, it's not accurate in that sense (much like Blaze, King, Maki, et cetera). His movelist is less expansive than Warusaki3's because it has only the moves that he had in CvS2 and nothing extra. If you play with Maki or Mika you'll get a rough idea of how he handles.

Considering I made a simple groove system without a lot of trouble, doing a 2-in-1 wouldn't be THAT hard; I just haven't been keen on doing it, nor have I had an excuse/chance/reason to (mostly because it's essentially twice the work).

Your characters sparked my interest.

I've been out of the Mugen game for awhile and got back into it in November. I originally started spriting Blaze based on Cap Rock's and when I returned it turned out you had finished it for him and done a damn fine job too.

I've recently started working on my first character again, someone new but I do often reference other characters such as your Blaze.

I'm using other characters such as Mai, Yuri, Maki, Guile and Eliza just to see what these characters use for stance, weak punches etc.

This guy does look interesting simply because he doesn't seem to get a lot of attention overall. It would be cool to see where you take him.

Your certainly a creator I'll keep an eye on.

Since you are not making an accurate one I suggest giving this character many unique and original things because there are TONS of Haohmarus out there, how will this one stand out and be different than all the rest I ask you? So I don't feel that I'm playing or using some generic Haohmaru. If you give it only the basic CVS2 moves it will feel this way to me.  :-\

Also I'll try out your Maki and Mika to see how they play.

Welp, testing has been going well, so just bumping for progress.

Here are some changes:

-Resshin Zan is an OTG.
-Added a new Lv. 3 super, Tenha Mugetsu Zan (2QCF+HP+HK).

First post has been updated accordingly.

I'll see what I can do about a video or something. Not much free time for that kind of editing, but we'll see what I can do.

New WIP: Athena Asamiya. Basics aren't done yet, and will either do specials/supers or get-hits once they are.

The chain/link section is still under construction since I'm still adding basics and might find one or two more useful combos as I go on.

The Lv. 3 move that I have in mind might not make it in because I don't have the resources to switch the outfits like the actual move does, but I would feel bad if I treated Athena the way I did Marrow and gave her no Lv. 3 super move. If you can guess what the move is, though, I'll make a palette template or something, I dunno. :V

Haohmaru update might be this weekend so stay tuned.

About the lvl 3 move that you are describing, if it's what i think it is, you might want to take a look at hero's sprite edits.

Nope, no EX moves.
I've been shying away from the PotS influence that my first "CvS" works had, recently; it feels like I was trying too hard to copy him, and I feel like that gave me no incentive to make good characters.

As for the Lv. 3, I will confirm that the number of question marks = the number of letters and/or numbers that are in the move name.
Are those sprite edits in Hero's Athena or somewhere else?? I'll need a link either way so post it or PM it if you can, please. Never mind, I'm being a lazy bum. I'll go find his Athena myself, first.

That seems pretty weird, I don't know what the gameplay style has to do with how hard you're working. While tastes in coding vary wildly from person to person, taking inspiration from an admittedly great coder shouldn't make you code "bad characters", and anyone that ever try to claim that admiring his work makes you a worse coder would be lying. Don't let anyone or anything discuorage you from continuing to be a good coder.

You are doing great so far, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I hope to see more new things from you in the near future. :)

I guess the better way to phrase my statement was that I was worried more about emulating the cool parts of PotS' style, instead of being more concerned with getting the basics right and then adding the cool stuff on top of it. The end results were characters that were kind of mediocre and not nearly as good as they could have been.

Now that I've re-focused myself and don't worry about things like EX Moves and Rolls and Dodges and Parries, I think that my characters have gotten a lot better. It also helps that I've been playing more fighting games and asking questions about mechanics instead of pretending/assuming that I know how they work (ask Homer about Mika's old "tick throws" to see what I mean :P).

While I do genuinely enjoy PotS' work, I don't want everything I do to follow exactly in his footsteps anymore. Other people do that better than I did, so I want to focus on not emulating him.

I've already done badly enough by stealing Waru's animation timings; I don't need to compound that with SFF theft :P

More seriously, the sprites I have already have the colors for her FX added to the index (thanks be to Insanius), and I'd rather not stop what I'm doing to switch to a new set. Color sep is wonderful but I rarely have the energy to deal with it in my own characters anymore.

Admittedly, I'm an idiot and didn't specify that I was talking about Psychic 9, but yeah, the sprites are from Hero's Athena. If he had someone else make them for him, he didn't specify who in the readme.

I already have the sprites ready to import into Athena thanks to adding a few colors to the palette here and there, but I have to futz around with the Crystal Bit and Fang Arrow stuff before I even get close to coding it, and if Hibiki's speed combos taught me anything that's going to be rather tedious.

If you are doing Athena's Psychic 9, then the 3rd attack is actually her Sailor Shoot attack. That is where Athena changes her outfit into her school girl uniform and hits the opponent with both hands.

The Healing super move is one of two attacks that Athena can use from both her Psycho Medley super move from King of Fighters '02 and Psychic 10 super move from King of Fighters '03.

Bleh, I didn't see that Sailor Shoot one in Hero's sprites at first, but it's there.

I'll look at a KoF movelist and fix it properly, that's my mistake. :(

As for Healing, I know it's not part of the original Psychic 9, but the gown sprites are there so I'd rather not have them go to waste. I don't mind throwing it out if four endings for the super is a bit too much, though.

Just a suggestion if you find that 4 finishers are too much.

You can probably make it like Hero's Athena in that she has the Psycho Medley with the Healing Athena as a Level 3 move.
