Has there ever been an attempt at a matchmaking/skill thread on MFG, where people of different specialties can make themselves known?I imagine that this would boost the amount of collaborations and completed projects. Why? The simple answer is that people will actually have a place to look for possible candidates to either help with the project or pass it on to. Overall this should allow the community to be more community driven rather than constantly putting our faith in the same set of people.
Well the thing here is ... it works itself out.The fact that there's people who work skills that complement somebody else doesn't necessarily mean both people would be interested in working together. You must factor into that model the time/availabilty/synchronization of the parties, as well as the affinity level of their interests. In such fashion, we've told people more than once that if they're good spriters, they shouldn't stop doing their thing because they don't have a coder, because otherwise they'll be pushed into sticking with the first coder that comes to them, and probably make a rushed version of said sprites, where as if the SFF is already out there, the Warusakis of the world can take up on those sprites whenever they are available and interested. When all of the aforementioned factors are synchronized (affinity, availability and so on) people hook up, and things happen by themselves.
I know that's how it has been for the longest while and I'm not trying to change that I want to add another means for people to familiarize themselves with the engine and the community. Having a database of people can help that process take place because it allows spriters, coders, pallete makers etc to be known for what they are capable of doing right off the bat (It also shows that they are interested in doing something in the first place.)*Example coming soon*
The biggest problem with that is that we have a lot of coders and very little sprite artists, so the comunity itself has been balanced the way walt said.
Character coders and sprite artists do not make up the whole community.Screenpacks, stages, lifebars, soundpacks, palletes, edits of existing works, projects that don't leave the WIP stage.
I didn't mean that literally I just used that as a name. "Contributor Database", "Skill Database" aren't very attractive titles.

Great points, but another problem is the humility level of all in question, you might have a fantastic coder and a spot on spriter, they might both want to bring a character to mugen, but their personalities clash so much so that nothing gets done. Case in point- "We" had a coder who was full speed ahead gung ho for the project, the problem we had to keep him in the dark as to whom all the other members were, if such an action had not been taken, one or both would have quit the project out of ego, thus making everyone else pay for the fact that these two cannot get past their hatred for each other. It sucks that steps like that had to be taken, but the project got done and all was awesome.
Id be willing to help a spriter as long as they send me the sff. I hate having to align sprites(I would have sucked in mugen's packless days). I prefer capcom style though. Im nothing special, but meh.Anyway, what's up guys? Is it unusually hot in your local areas like it has been here?

The purpose of the database would be to give project leaders options and for community members to get better at what ever they want/can do. I think it's reasonable to assume that forum members (both new and old) and some lurkers are actually willing to do something with mugen but may or may not want to start an entire project on there own.for eg. I have made many screenpacks (unreleased) in the past, right now i have another one going but due to various reasons I'm either gonna drop it entirely or leave it on my desktop to gather digital dust until i pick it up 2 years later. The problem here is, i know i have the coding know-how and the graphic skills to complete it but right now I'd have to bump it up on my priority list to do so. That's not gonna happen. BUT WAIT! I could i just pawn it off to a respected member of the community and hope they aren't busy or end up dropping it themselves. While I'm contemplating that, mystery member "X" is out there willing to code, rip sound effects etc but stays in the background because no one asked if he wants to help or even knows that he can do it in the first place. To make this short;- If he left, who would you go to?- What if his personality doesn't clash with other people, How can we know this coder even exists?Sure you could have a help thread or scout for members yourself, those are perfectly reasonable actions to take, the database would just make things easier because everything is in one place. All they have to do just post there name, what they do and what they have worked on (if they have).EDIT: I wonder if this is even the best place to discuss this sort of thing...
You can make the topic on the M.U.G.E.N. Discussion board, but if you really don't want to further develop your case, then you can leave it here.

I want to see what everyone thinks about this. That being said, can a mod please split my posts and all replies to a new thread in Mugen Discussion?
I personally would be glad to contribute on both cases, I only require motivation on the graphics side. I don't feel like I'm a great spriter, and the Guild usually don't give positive criticism when I sprite. But I'm an excellent coder, despite the projects I worked on (The entire Dead Dance game and Diddy Kong {Still a WIP}). I even joined the OriMugen project to see if I can contribute. My only problem is that I never frequent the forum to see if anyone needs me services, nor anyone personally asked me to help.
I'm still waiting for the Balthazar of Naruto so I can become their partner by eliminating all other contestants! I don't know what happened to Ahrimanes and Kratos.
I'm game, But it would have to be in an environment that is open and welcome to all, otherwise you'll have database no one will use because they're sick of trolls and corrupt mods. Plus someone will have to monitor it, weeding out the leaches who will pull the old "I'll help, send me your rare character*leaks*"--That alone will make or break the idea.
I admit, my brain process isn't all here at the moment so it took me opening the thread to realize what you meant by "matchmaking". Then it went through the whole "wait how many women are on this site, is this a gay hook up thread" etc etc etc. This thread is a much better idea than that. Me and Bia meeting and collaborating has lead to some wonderful things.
