I hate to sound like a total noob but i am!  I got into mugen about 2 days ago after I found the download after looking for it for a week (man i'm blind sometimes) and then just found this forum after some digging for mugen discussion!  So i'm new to everything!  So this is my first post!

The only tutorial stuff I find is how to add characters, i know how to do that already and I have checked quite a few tutorials on youtube but I seem to run into a snag..

I was currently watching the ultimate mugen fighter factory tutorial (some guy with some kind of eastern accent?) and got to part 2... basically I have a standing animation and I want to see it on winmugen.. through using the option to see the character through winmugen right on FF.  The name shows up but the character is not there >.> completely invisible it seems.  I am completely perplexed!  I put the character into winmugen just to make sure and same thing, nothing.  Now I have looked around and I cannot see this problem discussed ANYWHERE.

I downloaded the latest version of fighter factory (took care of a annoying bug for me) and the problem is the same.  In any of the tutorial the axis is barely mentioned... that sprites have to be aligned and something about the bars being the floor and whatnot.  Is that the problem?  Or did I do something wrong with the palette?

Do I need to send someone the character folder and sprites for them  to see what I am doing wrong?  I can't get answers anywhere o_o.

BTW, the my first project is Magma Dragoon from mega man x4.  For sprite editing and stuff I use GIMP.

Should I use the Mugen character creator instead or somthing? q.q i'm so lost!

Anyways.. hello board!  Pleased to meet ya!  If I didn't post this in the right place I apologize.

Add more standing animation sprites, that would be my suggestion. If this is your first character, I'm guessing you're editing a KFM.sff file? If not, you should start there, after all, that's all the first creators had to start with, except Elecbyte lol. Just try to copy that, or another file, as close as possible, and it should solve it.

If that isn't the case, then your animations don't match the sprite. Don't know what I mean? Try and copy a character's .sff into another character's file, and change the .def of that character to include the new .sff instead. When you load the character, there will be some animations where the character goes invisible.

This tells me that either your sprites aren't matching what the other documents tell it to, or there simply aren't enough sprites to allow the animation.

Give that a shot, hopefully it helps/solves things for you.

Alright.  I tried a few things you said...

Tried putting extra frames into the standing animation... no change.. even when i loaded them to like 10 sprites for the animation!

And just to see if it was something wrong with my sprites I went and loaded up KFM.def and even added my sprites at the end of his standing animation and turned it on... well at the end of the animation he would go invisible (and so would opponent) for the last 2 frames, which is how many extra sprites i added on.

what is this telling you?

Edit:  YES!  I think I figured it out!
I made one little change in what I do.  One thing that the tutorial never said that I thought I would try is that when I go to load up some sprites there is a little box that says "shared palettes" before you open them, so I clicked it THEN opened them... the standing sprites showed on winmugen  ;D

New question!   How do I make them face the opposite way?  All my sprites are facing left.  Is there a way to fix this or do I have to go into some art thing and reverse the whole sprite sheet i'm using?  It would be easy for me to start from scratch since I basically have nearly nothing and I would be back to where I was within half an hour.  But if there is an easier fix let me know.  I tried to use the flip option but when I hit save all they revert back to their normal position.

Since you know that it's usual in the .sff for a character's sprites to always face right, half your problem is solved, lol.

Rather than going sprite by sprite, opening photoshop, mirroring the image, saving it, and importing it as a .pcx into FF, it would be less tedious to just flip the whole sheet, then just cut, save, import, or however that's all done :P
