I am definately not a fan of chibi characters. I was just wondering what the appeal is to chibi characters as opposed to full size characters. I personally ban them from my roster. I am however curious to know though why they are still requested......... Is it a Gameboy advanced(nintendo ds)/Psp thing? I just want to know what u guys think without knocking your choices right off the back. I hear this is a touchy one!

Why, is there a reason to still want normal-sized characters rather than chibi characters ? ???
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

It's a matter of taste, really. Personally, I rarely bother with chibis, although I've had a few before.

as long as it doesn't look too pixelated... i mean gem fighters is pretty kick ass but no no to ultimate jumpstars or any ds sprites.

I like some chibi characters.

Mainly those by a few folks here and seeing as most characters I enjoy come only from certain games that have smaller sprites.

But unless you size up a bit kinda garbage to have on a normal roster so extra screenpack is needed lol.

It's the pixelated two three button characters that kill it for me. I have short characters. Menelikke, megaman's', protoman, zeroe's',roll, master roshi, servbot etc... but they aren't really chibi right? Like Anbu kakashi and alot of the bleach characters  (WHICH TICK ME OFF CUZ THEY COULD BE. SO MUCH... ..) those are chibi right? And Gem Fighters/pocket fighters Are the shit I got pocket ken, dan, zangief, and chunli. (Tho not in my roster I can't seem to throw them away!) Maybe I have the definition off? Anyhelp?

You don't see "mugen characters" included in there, do you?

I am just saying that there are regular sized characters that are more complex than any of the chibi characters I have seen.

For example: Draven which plays like an rpg character in a fighter. And also take for example characters that play almost exactly as they do in their respectable games.

I'm not saying chibi characters cannot be these though.

Haha, I have bias here, I'm trying to develop chibi characters in the form of the Bionic Commandos, but that aside, It all depends on the quality of the work. I have a few, Bleach characters, Mega Man, Naruto... Pain to fight against on my full pack, but I don't really mind, I had the same problem fighting Servbot in Marvel vs. Capcom 2.  :sugoi:

All of the completed chars I have coded are pocket/chibi and I regonize they didn' get as much praise as regular sized characters get, but fuck it. I code because is fun.

...Actually, now that I think about it, Servbot's probably smaller then most of the chibi's you can get on the net. Despite the broken nature of the moves in MvC, surely that still counts for something on the part of difficulty. :-\

There were only 3 chibi's that stayed on my roster for an extended period of time. Tiger Mask's Renamon and Veemon, and Drowin's Kos-Mos. While I've long since deleted the digimon due to space constraints, I still liked them.

Man, I wish I had something bigger than a 40 GB HD.

Thats a REALLY bad reason.

Chibis are fun to code. They may be less fun to play against, but they are some of the most fun to play WITH. People do interesting things with small characters. The novel, clever stuff i actually keep is generally small.

There are a few "clever" large characters but in general they aren't that complex.

You haven't seen many small characters then. My rayman, donkey kong, r-type, Kyo's sonic stuff, that kirby that changes form, probably kyo's chrono trigger stuff (not sure haven't picked it up)

Sure the RPG thing probably is complex, but it could just as easily be in a chibi character too, however things like picking someone up and carrying them around just don't happen outside of small characters. When was the last time you saw a regular/big character take a hit and spill rings around the screen that you have to pick up if you want to stay alive. Platformers let your imagination out.

I like the big characters too but i find there to be way less of a challenge in actually making them. Everything is planned out and in front of you, all you need to do is reapply it to mugen. Compared to figuring out something strange like a controllable menu that lets you select the next striker you call on the fly that's a piece of cake.

Also Bane's Sora, your Kirby's ability loss, and that Link with a full shop system.
Quite a few characters simply wouldn't feel right if they were regular sized.
