or at least make it look a lot better anyways ^.^ ...while its nothing super new, its something that new people may not have known (I'm still new myself so I though it was awesome).

a long while back I started making a few old NES stages look better by editing real stuff into them, etc....anyways Ive found a way to make the chars look semi "Street Fighter 2 HD Remix" looking ....you know....somewhat hand drawn, and somewhat like original.

Anyways heres my first pic. I dont plan to finish this one, I just wanted to see if it was worth it to try it out.
I'm still learning mugen otherwise I'd make a whole char this way.
the char on the right is the one I used to make the one on the left

to do it you need photoshop and the blowup plugin
open char in photoshop, and before doing anything, save the palette, then use the blowup plugin.
then double the res. It kinda adds a strange painted look to the chars.
Convert to RGB
cut out the background from the char (I delete it all, then add a new layer that has the mask color).
then using smart sharpen, adjust it to how you like it.
Don't worry if it looks odd in photoshop (test one image before making tons of em though lol).
once you've done that, convert back to index, and choose custom palette (use the palette you saved).
once you've put the file into your sff, just make the chars size half of what it was :)

There's also the issue with having to resize all of the collision boxes (wasn't there a tool for that though?).
I suppose this only works for chars that are blurry by nature, huh? It'd mess up SF/KOF sprites.
Use anything you want from my works.  If you need to contact me use email, not private messages.

the results in that guile are surprisingly good, though.

if there is a tool to fix the collision boxes that would be awesome! I'm just doubling everything, and using various photoshop tricks so...a tool could easily just double the numbers right?....
Also Ive been bugging the creator of the snake eyes, and heres the results of what I am doing atm :)  He said he will reprogram everything for him, when I finish it up. It's entirely up to him what he wants to do with it after that. I'm making it for personal use, and its all his from then on so...heres the results of Snake Eyes!

the original was pretty small so... I wanted him bigger but wanted him to look CRISP ...you know....to fit in with all the other comic book heroes. I'm about 1/3rd of the way done with him, but took a break for the night.

EDIT:
I guess it just depends on what style you want actually....for example I LOVE the new ninja style chars from Mk, but since classic subzero was only in trilogy (which uses smaller and more pixelated chars), you could remake them with this method too......Although I'd most likely just palette swap for him, I'm sure theres good uses for this.
Like the streets of rage chars, and chars that are just small to begin with..

Sorry to bump, but Kong has a tool on his site that doubles CLSN boxes:

Quote
Double_Clsn
This tool double the collison box size. Just put the air files in the same folder as the exe file.

I haven't tried it, though.

This is so funny b4 we used to convert them all by hand i would tell my bro yo man i wish i knew like c+ or something or someone should make a program or something to more easily facilitate this process and bam, this easily cuts the time it takes to convert in half.. FRIGGIN A+ It's going down!  8)

  • Somebody PM when Caddie is no longer a mod.

Like it... Yes... same quality no. If you play around with the filters in gimp you get something similar it might even work on a really pixel heavy sprite. Check out the sharpen and oilfy filters.

oh and the filters only work on JPG so you would have to convert bmp to jpg a then back to bmp. There is no loss but it is a pain in the ass.
