So I find myself once again wanting to turn a popular character into a MUGEN character, so just like with Snake, I've decided to make a character that I have a great amount of passion for. That character is Rorschach, birth name Walter Kovacs. For those of you who haven't read Watchmen or know nothing about the character, Rorschach is a masked vigilante who spends his days disguised as a vagrant doomsday prophet, and his nights cleaning up the streets with his gritty, violent brand of justice. He wears a mask consisting of two layers of a latex-like material, with black and white fluids between them that shift and move constantly, but never mix to gray. He has clearly defined views of good and evil, and he is completely uncompromising. For more information, visit his Wikipedia page, though be warned, there are SPOILERS of the events of Watchmen.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rorschach_(comics)

Here are two animated gifs representing his progress so far.

Stance

Walk (this is a bit faster than he will actually walk)

On a loop

I will be using a bit of Seth as a base. I hope you guys are excited about this, because I know I am. Right now, here are the plans for him, but this may change, of course:

6-button layout
Forward Run
Back Hop
Roll

Specials:

Grappling Gun Shot - Rorschach will shoot his grappling gun straight out, like a normal gun, impacting with his opponent.

Grappling Gun Swing - Rorschach will shoot his grappling gun upwards, latch onto something "off-screen", and perform a swinging kick (think Spiderman's Web-Swing)

Tackle - Rorschach will tackle his opponent, and beat their head in (think Sean from SF3).

Aerosol Flamethrower - Rorschach will use a lighter and an aerosol can to create a makeshift flamethrower.

Pepper Spray - Rorschach will reach into his pocket and then toss a handful of pepper into his opponent's eyes. Must figure out the logistics of stunning the opponent, possibly a custom state.

More if possible. May make a Nite-Owl striker, but that's a big maybe.

Don't have much in the way of Supers thought up. The previously mentioned Aerosol Flamethrower may be used as a super. I'm also thinking the old standby, a big multiple-attack super, since that works for just about anybody. Feel free to throw me some suggestions, though I make no promises!

Let me know what you think!

***Update***

First 6 palettes:

Big Portrait:

Also, if anyone wants to create alternate big portraits for him and submit them to me, I'll include them in his .sff (if they're good), so he will have multiple portraits to choose from.

Run!

***UPDATE November 24th***

All required sprites done, as well as his guarding sprites, and getting up sprites. I would now put him at roughly 40% done, less than halfway but the boring stuff is out of the way. I now can move into his attacks and personal actions. He's coming along well.

***QUICK UPDATE JANUARY 4th***

Alright, so as you may see above, Rorschach is now a 6-button character. The reason for this is because similar to how Specialist served as a base for Solid Snake, Rorschach is going to be edited (after he's done obviously) into one of the first SHADEs characters I ever designed, Dark Nation (yes, he's named after Rufus' pet from FF7). The main hurdle I faced that made me never make Dark Nation before, was his trench-coat, which I was too lazy to deal with. Now that I'm dealing with that with Rorschach, and since they have similar designs, it just makes sense to me.

Anyway, almost all of his standards are sprited and implemented. Here's one gif featuring all but his aerial standards.

Stay tuned!

***UPDATE JANUARY 18TH***

Check out page 3 for several new screens of his Crescent Aerosol Flamethrower, Grappling Hook Gun, and Grappling Swing. He now has almost all his specials, meaning all that's left are Supers, Taunt, and Win poses. w00t!

It might be better to edit Q, since they look similar and you'll have really kickass animations going for your character.

I don't do edits really. I like to use existing animations and then sprite the character myself. I also am not the biggest Q fan, and don't wish to have to edit that many sprites.

That is a really smooth walking animation.
i think we should call it an "engine" so we don't look like total idiots because otherwise we'd be arguing about a "game" and that would be somehow "dumber" than arguing about an "engine" on the "internet" for countless hours

While his mask never mixes to gray, in sprite, have you experienced with graying out an area before blacking it out? To make it look more like the fluid is moving?

Also, I do suggest grabbing a few Q animations for him, some of his boxer like punches and hits , and mainly his falling animations and winposes for moments of "madness" .

He needs some grappling maneuvers as well, one where he goes into hold and then depending on command does different things, like breaking fingers, or rolling throws.

(How much in detail should i suggest things? I dont want to be a hassle)

As much detail as you want, just like I said, I can't promise I'll use all of them.

The grapple idea is good, I'll definitely try to do something like that. And I never thought about the fluid thing like that, let me toy around and see if looks better.

EDIT:

You were right, this looks much better.

Well then spoilers GALORE, anyone been warned
Ror is a street fighter, no real powers in him, but his behaviour and insanity becomes a super power, he was based from a few other characters to portray a style of super hero, the detective, the vigilante, the roaming maniac...
Some of his most strong resemblances go to both
-Question
-Batman

Lending a lot from the Question he gains his paranoia and looks, some of his fighting moves as well, non powered super human, the Question employs a lot of boxing techniques and pure brawling techs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDBxlOfJnoQ
Also from him he lends his tendency to search around trash cans.

From Batman he lends fewer things, mostly his determination and insanity twitches, the fact that he instill FEAR as a weapon.

grab images of rorcharc tests and save up on them, you should have at least a move where while terrorizing the opponent the tests flash on the screene rapidly.

Prepare a few punching moves where he combos the opponent into a good gut punch and then grabs a pot or something out of thin air and cracks it down on the opponent head.

edit

The grappling move could move through some of his most violent moves, reproduced as possible on sprite( the sound of cracking bones as he does something behind his back, since we cant have an anim where he is really cracking fingers) hitting with bricks against the opponent face, etc.

If you plan to get other strikers, Urien has the perfect build for almost no editing and to get a few sprites for a Doc Manhattan.

Could teleport Rorcharc into the fight or port him out of the fight.

Intro with him coming out of a trashcan

intro with him coming out of a freezer.

Winpose with the Owl ship carrying him out through ladder or dropping him by ladder would look cool too.

He has a flashlight, you could use it to momentarily stun the opponent by flashing it on their eyes just before hitting them with something bigger, like a trashcan/beer bottle/dead dog.

About freezers, he could have as one of his moves closing people inside freezers.
You can find part of a freezer in JOJO bizarre character D'bo, also on him, you can find some chopping knives, perfect for either a hard "punch" or a super move finishing with him using the knife on the opponent.( http://foxhugh.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/rorschach.jpg this could show up when that does, reenacting his memory of when he used it on the dogs) ..A pretty butterfly.

When defeated, sugar cubes could fall out of him and his hat could fly off, maybe even losing a shoe.

His flame move could be a supercombo move only, perhaps a finisher to a string of other violent moves.

Boy Iced, I can tell you have a lot of passion for this character as well. Why didn't you make him already? Just kidding.

Thanks for the ideas man. He's definitely getting an intro where he jumps out of the refrigerator. I always thought that was one of the most badass yet also hilarious things I'd ever seen. Poor Moloch.

I also planned on giving him either a winpose where he eats a sugar cube, or a taunt where he eats one and gets a tiny bit of life back.

I like comics, and some other media, as long as its a character i "know" I can pretty much set up a whole moveset for them. Specially when sprites arent an issue.

Also, as I have played a fair share of fighting games, I know more or less whats "impossible" to do. Nothing was weirder than when I used to set up dbz wip threads and people would suggest me to adapt EVERY move the characters ever had, putting up links to movelists of techniques they did on the show instead of presenting a way of making them playable and interesting.

a nice parry-counter would be cool, nothing fancy, just him maybe turning his back then when the opponent hits him he spins on his heel with a nice haymaker and sends the opponent flying.
holy crap, i'm back and stuff... if anyone cares.

Very nice looking sprites. I'm not a fan of your colors/shading, but it's your style, so cool. I'm sure alternate pallets will fit my personal taste better.

I really hope you go into the details with his mask, animating it for every move. Even better would be having 5 or so different versions of his portrait with different inkblots coming up randomly.

You may be able to get some more move ideas when the watchmen game comes out, or more details are revealed.

For a portrait, you may be able to use this:
http://www.1up.com/flat/Features/EGM_235/wp_WM_800.jpg
Though it may not fit with sprites well.

From what I know about Mugen, this isn't possible.

If you want however, you can sprite several stances and have them come up randomly everytime he returns to idle.
