The real challenge in Mugen is trying to find a character in a humongous screenpack. Yup...

Would anyone like to take a guess on how many slots there are? Seems the creator doesn't want to do that.

and you have to specify what resolution this thing is.

You can tell what resolution this is by looking at the portraits (9000,1).
It is hi-res.

Would anyone like to take a guess on how many slots there are?

It's Over 9.000!!!!!!!!!! ;D

Ironically even though many don't like that meme anymore, that should be around the number of mugen characters that are out there right now, maybe 900 more or so.

And SP looks pretty good, even though it could still allow some more slots. But from the screenshot one can see that the big portrait borders are missaligned against the grid, it should have a fix though, or maybe he is cool having it like that too.

If you count how many rows and columns there is, then multiply them by each other, you get the number of characters it can hold.
I counter to like 60*60 (there is more I counted on the ones where the big portrait is in the way).
60*60 = 3600.
So it is at least over 3600.

Woah! Now that's a big screenpack! Personally, I like this kind of thing. Having a lot of mugen characters, I sometimes fear I'll run out of space, but with this one, I don't really have to worry about that. Plus, it's Hi-res so it works with my Winmugen Plus too!

Great!

And I don't even have 200 characters and my MUGEN folder is over 2 GB's. And it looks like Insanius beat me to counting it... I JUST WASTED 20 MINUTES OF MY LIFE COUNTING THAT SHIT!!!

I gotta say I love the overall look of the screenpack. I love the selection of images you've included here a lot.

Great Job!

I'm not a big fan of amazingly huge rosters, but I know a lot of people are, so I'll probably edit this for my own use.

I have a question about a font you've used here:

What is the name of this font and were can I get this font for my PC programs? I need it for a photoshop creation I have in mind.

Thanks!

i wouldnt exactly call deleting the only anim on the select screen an 'edit' lol. this is what u wanted to do:

This change of font really works well too. As does moving the p1 and p2 down so that you 1) have more room for the name and 2) doesnt look stupid when you go on team mode because the names file downwards

i did wanna figure out how to make the names readable in team mode,i was just gonna fiddle with the nimbers until i could get all four names to be at the top,from left to right.....lol...but if changing the font is all i need to do,then please be so kind as to explain the process....

go in the system def and find this:

;Name
p1.name.offset =117,33;Position to put name
p1.name.font =4,0,-1;Set to -1 for no display
p2.name.offset =524,341
p2.name.font =4,0,1

under the heading character select definition. these offset values are what you want to change it to (they correspond to longitude and latitude: x and y axis). of course this is provding you've moved the p1 and p2 labels from the screenpack down in fighter factory, otherwise there will be overlap.

the first number of the font parts correspond to the fonts you have at the top of the system def here:

[Files]
spr =system.sff;Filename of sprite data
snd =system.snd;Filename of sound data
logo.storyboard =;Logo storyboard definition (optional)
intro.storyboard =;Intro storyboard definition (optional)
select =select.def;Character and stage selection list
fight = akatsuki-lifebar/fight.def
;broken98/fight.def
;fight.def;Fight definition filename
font1 =font/8x8.fnt
font2 =font/8x8.fnt
font3 =font/8x8.fnt
font4 =font/name.fnt

therefore as shown above im using font 4 (name.fnt)

as long as you have the font/ part at the beginning it will select fonts from your font folder, which you will obviously have to put fonts into. rip them from other lifebars, screenpacks etc and write the name into the above part. eg if you have a font called sf.fnt you want font(number) = font/sf.fnt

although i dont know why ive told u this, you know, being a 'douche' and all

font3 =font/8x8.fnt
font4 =font/name.fnt

therefore as shown above im using font 4 (name.fnt)

as long as you have the font/ part at the beginning it will select fonts from your font folder, which you will obviously have to put fonts into. rip them from other lifebars, screenpacks etc and write the name into the above part. eg if you have a font called sf.fnt you want font(number) = font/sf.fnt

although i dont know why ive told u this, you know, being a 'douche' and all

thank you kindly bro...i appreciate it.....
you hath redeemed yourself fully....

Thanks Ares.  This screenpack is just for me.  My current one holds about 1200 and this will be used after I pass that limit.  I needed this, thanks!

@deth

i wouldnt exactly call deleting the only anim on the select screen an 'edit' lol. this is what u wanted to do:

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/7/27/2022416/rost.png

This change of font really works well too. As does moving the p1 and p2 down so that you 1) have more room for the name and 2) doesnt look stupid when you go on team mode because the names file downwards
 ;D

The font edits and all are good, but that doesn't solve the original problem. That small space for the stage name is not enough for most stages. I have 600+. That whole row of boxes needs to disappear!

thanks superstar.....that is what i was saying...
and making the boxes"blank"does not work...he made those cells like a screenshot...
so you would need to go into the .sff file of it and change it....
so what i did was better....took off the animations and moved it down.....
done deal.....anyone happy with that?...lol
and ares,do you like my edit?.....
it was made for people with weaker comps...
if you have 3000 chars,your comp probably runs crappy anyway,so deleting animations is a must...
the cpu is already working hard enough trying to read all that informaton....
and now my mugen rarely crashes....
i edited alot on this screenpack,and it took me like 4 hours.....
as soon as i figure out fighter factory,i am making the AUTHOR'S screenpack....
your feeble little minds will be blown....
i did soooooo much research for it.....
when it drops,authors will no longer be able to whine about credit....
cause everyone will be highlighted in the intro....
you all will see....

um.... if you dont want the bottom line of boxes, open the system.sff in fighter factory and render the bottom line the same colour as the transparent background. easy.

The design of the selection screen is not seen easily a little.
Should I limit the number of characters?

The cell is too small and the character is cramped.
Should I enlarge this?

It is necessary to devise it variously to make the design easy to see.

with that many characters photo slot, it's hard to find any character we want, maybe then scroll down text of the character name would be more accessible.

Heres my edit of Ares Ax great screenpack:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFD2E9V725I
Great edit! I've been waiting for a Hi-Res EVE Battle for a long time. Only two problems I see with it...

1. Not enough space at the bottom to display the entire name of the stage. That last entire row of boxes needs to disappear.

2. When selecting multiple characters (simul or teams mode) you can only see the name of the first person you pick. The other 1-3 characters' names end up hidden by the character slots.

It be great if you'd make the same thing but with less slots. Personally I only go for around 100 because I hate cheap characters or characters with crappy AI, which is what most mugen mostly consists of nowadays. I could probably do the slots myself but I'm not to confident with the players' pictures.

Anyway, back on topic: While this screenpack isn't exactly flashy, it loads quick and it holds a veritable fuckton of characters, so if anything, it gets a thumbs up from me. Heck, I'm using it right now, so yeah. :D

Does it matter when it loads nice and fast? I mean, we don't have to sit through animations of Ryu and Akuma fighting when we just want to get to the character select screen.

Nice screenpack, but I have one complaint, can you please put the stage name text somewhere else? I cannot see the stage names that well with the slots in the way, but other than that its a great screenpack. :sugoi:

That's true. I mean I would suggest making a patch with less character slots so people wouldn't have to get annoyed with all those slots lol. It's still an awesome screenpack, though.

Okay...what is the current status of this edit? Once I can get this, I don't think I'll ever use another screenpack again. (I may just change the lifebars, but that would be all.) I now have 1750+ characters and 700+ stages. I just want to fill this one up.

edit

One more little tweak:

P2 Character Names on the select screen I think should be left justified to the character portrait box.

Last Edit: October 10, 2009, 03:38:38 am by momo!, the trash mod
