Good afternoon gentlemen.
I would like to discuss a very important issue: The "copyright" in the characters you create.
Most of the sprites you use belong to companies. Capcom, SNK, MIDWAY.
I see many fights on the internet by using content from another user asking "permission".
I would caution one thing. Firstly you have not asked permission from Capcom, SNK, Midway to use the sprites.
Secondly many users using illegal copies of operating systems, video editors, image editors, without asking businesses.

When a user has used images from the game Vanguard Princess, he asked permission to former Capcom employee?

When someone downloads Adobe Photoshop sites, Windows, Corel Draw you asked permission for companies to use without paying? When you've downloaded winmugen Elecbyte you asked permission to use?

And second Elecbyte all the codes contained in the chars are free or her is the intention that you learn to plan and share what you did in the program that belongs to Elecbyte. That's right. The program is not yours and you can not do reverse engineering without permission Elecbyte.

Good Afternoon

God bless the world

Snk and capcom knows about mugen and they don't care about creators using sprites, because they consider it a fan work.

And if you serch in this forum you will find an huge topic about this matter.

Good night and good luck.

Wow this could turn into one controversial topic of discussion... except that's it's been done for God knows how many times in the past 10 years or so.

Since I tend to ramble I'll break down parts of your post for you homie

I would like to discuss a very important issue: The "copyright" in the characters you create.
Since this forum's administration has decided copyright is not that important an issue in terms of chars and stages, you're probably barking up the wrong tree :P

Most authors use the banner of fan art for their chars, which is not an illegal practice. Capcom and SNK as far as I know are A-okay about making chars for mugen.

capcom and SNK were asked. Isn't midway bankrupt?

This is a seperate issue, alot of countries don't enforce copyright laws, in those countries, such crimes are not an issue.

mugen is freeware. see: elecbyte.com. It's a different issue to download something you have to pay for and freeware. (THEN AGAIN if you mean winmugen, the hack, elecbyte is against that, but they DO have a Mugen 1.0...so keep that in mind)

this is correct. the reason so many hacks exist and are widely used is cuz sometime long ago elecbyte disappeared. but now they're back, and i'm pretty sure the goal is to have everyone use Mugen 1.0.

Sprites != code

Sprites don't code themselves. Coders write code, code is intellectual property of the coder.

Capcom's response to Mugen:

SNK's response to Mugen:

These are both in a sticky at the top of the introductions forum. I personally still have a copy of the SNK one in my inbox.

Funny side note, SNK originally said no and I had to take down my site for a while...I coulda choked Messatsu for asking them in the first place(and I recognize now in my old age that of course it was inappropriate to feel that negatively towards him). Thankfully they changed their mind and everything worked out just fine. :)

Copyleft is a play on the word copyright  to describe the practice of using copyright law to offer the right to distribute copies and modified versions of a work and requiring that the same rights be preserved in modified versions of the work. In other words, copyleft is a general method for making a program (or other work) free, and requiring all modified and extended versions of the program to be free as well.

you wouldn't be able to claim intellectual property on snippets of code though, just the entirety of the files...
