How did you heard about Mugen the first time?

In my case it was a bit different than in most cases i bet

I first heard about it in..a TV show. Yes, in i think 2002 there was a show called "GigaTV" a 3 hour long show about new videogames, and sometimes programmes and tools and tips for pc users/gamers

I forgot his nick but there was a german guy ..genjuro something?

who made two or more completly original samurai characters with Mugen..i think he had a small german mugen site back than as well

In the tv show they showed his creations and also reported about Mugen itself, even made a little tutorial about how to add created fighters and showed a few KOF and SF characters and stages as well.

being a big fighting game fan i was like WTF and found out about mugen and started hunting/collecting characters...short after i found the mugenguild as well before it was a forum

How/where did you heard about Mugen the first time?

I was searching Google Images for pics of Zero in SvC for an avatar/sig combination most likely, and I stumbled upon N64Mario's site. I remembered him from VGDC, so it was strange how I ran into someone so familiar to me. I was looking at his sprite edits page, and he kept talking about how so-and-so was a planned/abandoned project for MUGEN, and I kept wondering, "What is MUGEN?"

So I looked around his site a bit more, and did some more searching, and I'm like, "Wow. I can make a crossover with ALL of my favorite characters? This is awesome!"

I soon joined MGBR for its request section, then somehow ended up here (probably because I wasn't really getting the help for configuration I needed at a forum made mostly for Brazilians and Portuguese). So here I am.

Heard about it in a magazine named "hardcore gamerz" or something like that.
Checked it out on Google.
DLed everything I could find which was linked at Street Mugen, with my 56kbs modem.

yeah...the time when mugen warehouses like that had those buttons which asked to click to support that website for a higher rank of some warez shit webring

i rememeber downloading a lot from there back than too

wonder what happend to it and why it was closed

1. Street Mugen wasn't a warehouse, it linked to the sites of the creators.
2. It became a porn site.

Wow the first time i heard about mugen was way back in my first year in high school. I had a friend that showed me a picture of Ryu, Akuma and some other characters on his i-pod, i asked him what was that he said its called mugen. So i ask him whats mugen, he said its a freeware 2d fighter program for the PC and he told me the first mugen site that i ever been to [mugenfury.com] i think its closed down now but that day i went home got on the computer went to the site and downloaded the mugen program. Then i was like WTF how do you add characters cause the only character i had was KFM so i just played with him. After a while got tired of using him and i really didn't know what i was doing so i gave up on it. After some years i came back and found MFG site and decided to learn a lot more and how to create stuff for it. That's basically how i got into mugen. My first character that i downloaded was RyuDG and my first cheap/broken ass character was Broly super saiyan 3 that i remember.

It was a "legit" site. All the stuff they hosted were done on demand, exactly like RandomSelect.

Then the guys doing all the news and updated didn't have enough time anymore, and they sold it to somebody ... who turned it into a porn site (because of the number of views Street Mugen had at the time I guess). It died since then.

Of course turning a site that was not a porn site into one will kill off the site quickly. What were the people thinking, ruining a perfectly good site like that?

And of course, I have no problems sharing my story over and over again.

It was the summer of 2006. My siblings and I were looking around Youtube for more videos of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (we were in the anime obsession back then, not anymore now). Then, while we are browsing the video list, we stumble upon this video:

My siblings lost interest in the game that the video showed really quickly. However, I was a different story. The video stuck to me and I searched high and low for the game and I found the word MUGEN.

Then I found MUGEN the program. The rest is history.

I do not have Yuki Nagato. Wish I have, so I can beat her once more like old times.

That's basically also what was connected with me. God, NeoRageX...

if it's one thing I regret not keeping, it's that patched SvC that added the blood and Zero's voices back. I wish I could find that patch again.

Hardcore Gamer's PS3 Launch Issue. I picked up the Magazine, out of whim, to check out the cover article. As I opened up the Mag, a subscription leaflet stuck out of the first page of the Mugen spread they wrote about. While reading, I was amazed by the prospect of the screenshots they showed: Haohmaru VS Pocket Chun Li is one I remember clearly to this day.

Fast forward to a month later with some Google searching that lead to Mugen Infantry and Viola!! The rest is history. 7 Years of history that's clearly a labor of fighting game love!!

In 2006, i was searching for a new fighting game at my pc. Then i saw Ryu V.S Naruto and i was like ''WTF?", so i search MUGEN, download it and got 2 KFM. Strangely i didn't know you could download mugen chars and stages and add them at your own mugen roster. So i download K', my first char mugen that i've download it. Then Naruto (Also have heard that Naruto was very cheap) and third Sean from SF3. And so on, i beginning to learn what MUGEN really means, It's not about your work. It's a hobby.

And that's how i found MUGEN.

I dont remember how I found it, but that was the reason of my interest, I downloaded it with torrent, had it for few months and then relized its not a full game, but engine I can edit.

My first character was

"Great Ken", you dont even imagine how ridiculous he was (what if Ryu was Ken and Ken Ryu, or something like that). Short after that I made Fio, she hasnt changed since I think.

Edit: It was around 2008 or 2009 I think, days when I was master of Guilty Gear, now Im bit rusty at it (funny how many tactics you can forget), but still kicking ass.

I found a pic of Strider Hiryu vs. Duo with MvC lifebars. And after four or five WTF later, I learned what MUGEN is.

It was in December 2010. Not a big story, though.
