It seemed that somebody was looking for an excuse to fire her and used this "racist" word as that excuse.

Seriously, no other teacher in my schools got fired over such a trivial reason.

On what context?
"Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind."

"Okay, okay. So you put a Nazi on the Moon. Fuck you, Moon."

On what context?

Black Spanish teacher in New York City teaches the word "negro" to the class, which is Spanish for black, the color.

Some kid took offense and complained. She gets fired as a result.

That is what the article told us.

I seriously doubt that's the main reason she was fired. In the article, she admitted to calling some students "failures," which is a big no-no (I have a teacher friend who confirmed this, so it at least applies in my state).

There's probably other reasons why she got fired as well, and teaching the word "negro" in a Spanish class is probably not the whole story.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna eat some frijoles negros

In the article, she admitted to calling some students "failures,"
That's not right :
Quote
In court papers, Smith does address another incident involving an allegation that she labeled some students as “failures.” The teacher states that she had only asked certain students to move to the rear of the classroom after they had failed a test.
Also,

The Post notes that Smith also claims that students hurled insults at her, calling her “fucking monkey” and other abusive names.
It actually seems to be going the other way.

However, moving students that fail a test to the back of the class basically has the same effect: it's still the teacher publicly shaming the student.

“They haven’t even accounted for how absurd it is for someone who’s black to be using a racial slur to a student,” Reid told the Post.

Did Reid mean this the way it sounds?

It sounds like he's saying it's absurd for a black person to use an "anti-black" racial slur at another black person, so... ?

There's a lot of reasons why people do and don't say nigga/nigger. I think all of them are dumb, I don't see the word as a symbol of anything, nor do I take offense to it. Most people I know are in the same boat.
