He messed around with some settings in the .def. I assume it's to make it work on 1.1?

Yeah, basically it still works on 1.0 just omit the zoom code. The inexperienced users don't know that more than just a little code makes something "1.1 only" pretty sure this is just a stage with zoom added to it.
