As you may remember, DavisMaximus commissioned a character from me in December 2013, and made a poll to let people vote on who it would be. Batman won by two votes, and it caused quite a bit of drama and complaining. The entire ordeal sapped a lot of my motivation to work on the project, and at that point the money had been spent on Christmas presents, and I've been trying to catch up since. I toyed with the idea several times of paying Davis back and apologizing, but he's been so patient and I've finally gotten the itch to work on him.

Here are a few animations that I have so far. NOTE: The trunks will be added later via color separation.





If you're wondering about his jump, his iconic arms-out, cape-extended thing will be used for an intro and his air dash.

I'm not great at stances, so I commissioned one because I felt like Batman deserved it. Here's the preview image sent to me by Ink.



I'll put up the planned moveset soon, so check this space for edits.

MOVESET

Normals:

-St. LP - Quick jab (fast, mashable, pretty standard)
-St. HP - Right hook (may hit twice, once with fist, second during swing as if hitting with the spike-things on the side of his glove)
-St. LK - Short Shin Kick (low range but very quick)
-St. HK - Back Roundhouse
-Cr. LP - Quick Jab (same as standing version pretty much)
-Cr. HP - Uppercut (launcher)
-Cr. LK - Quick Low Kick (poking tool)
-Cr. HK - Double-foot kick (acts as sweep, but visually it's Btman using one hand for balance and kicking straight out with both feet)
-J. LP - Jab (stays active for several ticks, not just a poke)
-J. HP - Double-fist Hammer strike
-J. LK - High-angled kick (good for mid-air interception)
-J. HK - Strong straight kick (based on this image )

I am considering making enough animations for him to get a six-button conversion, but only if time permits. If I do:

-St. MP - High-angled left punch (think Urien's F+MP but without the forward momentum)
-St. MK - Midsection Kick (similar anim to Shin Kick, but higher, ala Kyo)
-Cr. MP - Right straight
-Cr. MK - Mid-range Low Kick (would probably use SF3 Shoto Cr. MK anim as a reference)
-J. MP - Aerial version of St. MP
-J. MK - Double Knee (would probably swap J. LK and MK in this case)

Command Normals:

-Air Dash - F,F or B,B in mid-air
   -Will probably have similar physics to Twlves air-dash in SF3:TS

-Flying Kick - DF+K in midair
   -A dive-kick basically.

-Some sort of overhead, not sure yet

Special Moves:

-Batarang (EX) - QCF+P
   -Classic Batarang. LP throws straight, HP throws at an angle. EX version is Electrified.

-Smoke Bomb (EX) - QCB+P
   -Throws a smoke bomb angled at the ground that stuns the opponent. LP is close, HP is far. EX version throws to opponent's current position on the ground.

-Cape Fear - DP+P
   -Either a DP-type move with lots of reach due to the cape, or an anti-air cape swipe where Batman remains on the ground.

-Slide Kick (EX) - QCF+K
   -Fast, sliding kick that must be blocked low. EX version pops opponent straight up, leaving them open for a juggle.

-Knightfall (EX) - HCB+K
   -Batman shoots his grappling hook straight up and flies upwards, then descends with a strong kick/stomp, similar to Whip's move from KoF. Different K buttons determine where he descends on the screen. EX version homes in on opponent.

Unique Tactic:

-Bat Swarm - S Button
   -Batman becomes surrounded by several mechanical bats. Pressing UT again will send them towards the enemy and they explode on contact. Lasts a couple of seconds before they fly away.

Super Moves:

- L1 - Batarage - QCF+S
   -Throws a very fast barrage of Batarangs.

- L1 - Inverted Takedown - DP+ S
   -Flies upwards, then performs the inverted takedown move from the Arkham games (hangs down from above them and lifts them into the air). Then, off-screen, he pummels them with a series of physical attacks before dropping them to the ground.

- L3 - The Dark Knight - HCB+S
   -Still working out the specifics, but probably something very close to his Super Move from Injustice that ends with the opponent being hit by the Batmobile.

THIS IS IN NO WAY FINAL. I am open to suggestions from people more familiar with Batman's history. I'm really only familiar with Batman from TAS and the movies.

I'm drooling in my own drool. That's all I'll say.

Just kidding, I love what you're doing here! I'm so glad he'll be finished! The only thing I don't like at all is his face when he already jumped, it looks a bit flat. But it's not something that really bothers me, it's just a detail.

CvTW as in he's being created for Capcom vs. The World. Plus, all of the original sprites I've created for CvTW have been the same style, which is my pseudo-CVS style.

I missed this drama. May I ask what the other character that lost by two votes was?

Don't really wanna dredge it up, but you were part of the thread, remember? You were one of the main people talking about how many other Batman sets there were and how unnecessary my version would be. The runners-up were Spike Spiegel and Bryan Fury,

Oh, was wondering what actually happened to this project.

I sincerely would like to take advantage of this and apologize cause I know I was part of the stir up blaming most voters for being "unoriginal" among other situations, that was sincerely some nasty behavior from my part and quite sad to actually know to actually considered returning the money to Davismaximus after this, my apologies.

Ah, right. Been a while. Can't say I wouldn't prefer Bryan because he's one of my favorite characters in anything ever, but your Batman sprites look good and distinct enough that that's a silly complaint. Way to go, you've won me over. Maybe I'll commission Bryan in the future or something.

Anyhoo, will you create a palette template for the Batman, Sean? Cuz' I cannot wait to make some Chris Nolan, Arkham, and Injustice palettes for this guy!

As for the oval, I don't see why it can't be added when I do the separation.
