I had wanted to post the apparent leaks from this episode earlier, but news sights were taking those little tidbits and running with them so far that it was too drastic to be true.  Everyone worried that Goku was going to lose here because Jiren's just not at his REAL true full power.  They were right, in the most technical sense.  Goku did fall off the arena.  But that was it, he wasn't eliminated, because Frieza finally contributed and saved Goku.

And not to say I told you so, but yes, 17 was still alive.  That whole energy discharge thing that everyone's done at least once being too similar to the bomb he had removed, it was just too stupid to kill him off like that.  That said, the answer to that being "Oh, I was just over here, you weren't paying attention" isn't exceedingly better, but whatever, the fandom's new MVP apparently is still around to help Goku along with Frieza.

It was good to see all those stamina problem finally get addressed, if only because we've reached a new untrained form that he's had to flip on and off three times now so it's acting like Trunks going between Ultra Super Saiyan and regular SSJ.  Still, I like that better than just "Jiren's too hard to beat", after all this teamwork versus lone wolf idelologies comparisons.  And though it's not exactly a big focus right now, at least now there's power scaling reason for Frieza and 17 helping actually making a difference, since Goku brought Jiren all but to death's door.

I like how it's really the two most unlikely allies who save the day. #17 has been showing off for a while, both his skills and how he became a good guy, but he was more of a technical sniper who just puts all his power while keeping a cool head than the guy who saves the day in a very shounen way at the last second. And of course Freeza actually saving Goku rather than just shooting Jiren like the false spoilers said, nice fake out.

I was pondering that too.  But unfortunately for those looking for an easy win, the Zeno duo seem to enjoy Rule of Cool over consistency.  I would also say he only attempted, did not succeed, but then that's exactly what happened with Frost so oh well.  I guess it's all cool to try to kill someone, so long as it's not explicitly for the reason to kill them but to make a point about Goku's beliefs.
