I've been learning music theory since the first grade, playing the piano since 7th grade, using Reason since its inception, and writing music since 03 (I've only written four simple pieces though, so it's not like I'm bach or somethin)

Reason is a musician's dream because its a stand along softsynth workstation and a sequencer. It's purpose is to be a complete emulation of professional sound equipment at the fraction of a cost. It actually has a real representation of samplers and analog sequencers, and you can toggle on the backside and re-route wires to certian CV inputs (either for LFO ratings, gating, reverb, whatever). The only drawback that the program has is audio-in (no recording music into it).

......songs in C, C#, or F minor are king to me. I rarely make anything in a major key signature

B-flat major, C major or minor, or F-major is my key sig of choice.

and the only reason I don't use Reason now is no support for Vst plugins.

Death to VSTs!  ;P

No point in using a program that has to constantly have its FX generators updated (for a fee no-less) IMO. Reason is so pringles

Musicians
=======
how do you start your project? make the bass line first, then make out a melody to follow? Drums first?
I start out with drums and a concrete melody that'll be the official hook.

(post edit: the bass line img is kinda squeezed together; there's some 16th notes in there you can't see.....I'll reupload it later)

If you can play the piano, here's a little somethin' I whipped up you can try out.

B Minor | 4/4 TS |

bass line

chords

Vista doesn't support the Yamaha XG softsynth. :-\ Fortunately Roland VSC still works.

Each one of those were created as soundbanks for Reason....all the more reason why it trumps everyone else  8)

After a nice night of weed and chinese food me and a friend stayed up all night freestylin' and whatnot. I was actually motivated to make a beat. When he left I tinkered around with it some more...

First song I made in...I dunno how long:

I can't seem to describe it fully. It's haunting. at the intro. I like the melody. Calming, when you actually bounce to the beat. Relaying to the title, This song, to me, belongs to the gambler who wins everytime, or the casino which he either runs or frequents. If he doesn't run it, then owner must have an eye on him.

yes, I know, topic revival.

Would this be the right place to post if I have songs I'd like to introduce for mugen? What if I just want to show off some music I've been working on? The reason I ask is because I like using Finale to transcribe some of my favorite songs and saving them as Midi files. I've transcribed a few game songs, some pop songs, and some TV/movie songs, but I don't know where I can post them. vgmusic.com is only for game music, and some place like newgrounds is just too general. If I can't post here, could you recommend a site where I could submit my music projects? Thanks.
