hey, I use Ubuntu Hardy as my main pc, and I was wondering if there are any character making programs for linux besides the small command line tools? I tried using Fighter Factory with wine (Windows Program Loader for linux), but it didn't work out.

thanks.  :)

Well, did you try anything based on the existing rules for creating palletes? Top left/bottom right depending on program used. 256 colours. That applies to EVERYTHING.

Fonts, sprites, blah blah blah they're all the same thing. Pallete them.
ok, so it doesn't matter what palette I use for the sprites that are using "unshared palettes." I don't have to use the shared palettes. That correct?

In order for sprites to have different palettes they must be shared.

Otherwise, an easy way is to download MCM, load up a SFF file, then unclick the box that says "shared." Once you do, the unshared sprite(s) will not be affected by any of the character's palettes.

If the image is distorted, make sure you have a picture of the sprites how it should correctly appear, click "change palette" in MCM, change the lower drop down to find .pcx, find your image, then load it. It should fix the image in the SFF. If you do this method with shared sprites, all of the sprites in the SFF will change to the .pcx image you select. This can be good or bad depending on what your trying to do.  :-\

If you want all of the sprites shared, yes, they should have the same transparent background and it must be the first color in the palette, otherwise, no.

ok, I have fighter factory, I'm guessing it's real similar to MCM. well, lets say I want to make a fireball projectile, and I want it to be the same color scheme for every pallette. I'm guessing you'll have to make it unshared for palettes. But what kind of palette do I need for the unshared sprites to have it have a transparent background?

in winane's website here, there's a tool for ripping sprites from compiled characters called SFFExtract. It works pretty well.

hey, I'm wandering how I could have sprites that do not share palletes. If I do this, what kind of pallete should I have so it could work on mugen? 0_o does it need the same transparent color as the shared palletes?

It would be cool if you could make stages where falling off the edges killed you... with a character coded correctly this could provide Super Smash Bros style functionality and open up a whole new market for you (I have many friends who would never touch a fighter game but still love to play SSB)

that would be pretty cool.  :D

Thanks guys for the explanation.
b/c I was thinking about making platform levels for a SSBB Mugen perhaps?
Well it was a thought.

that would be something though, but I'm not sure if a stage can support interaction. that's just me though.  :P

Re: Platform bonus games? Like Contra, SMB Land and SMB 1-1 for Mugen?

No, cos it's stupidly specific. And you need a really good knowledge of most of what mugen can do. Once you have that knowledge, you no longer need a tutorial.

I'm guessing its more of "now you know the aspects of mugen, now derive it to a whole new game" kinda thing?

hey guys, I want to enlarge my jackie chan sprites, but they would look pretty distorted when I "scale" the size of it in gimp. Is there another technique to enlarge the sprites while keeping it in good quality? I guess a bit like higher resolution? not really, but yeah.

thanks.  ;D

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it, those are like custom sheets of pcx and wav files.

Sff: sff is the sprites of a character for me i can only get 256 BITMAP and PCX image files to work 24bitmap dont

SND: is the music/sound effects for your character they can only be WAVS files

well, I kinda know sff is for sprites while snd is for sound. one thing I dunno is how they are compressed into those files.  ??? hah, dont get why I'm thinking about this.  ;P
