I'm unsure what you mean by using logmein for netplay/ZSNES, it's a bit odd, but nevermind, it's your preference. Lets ignore that.

Still, it's hard to diagnose further without actually touching your PC; you can try to self-diagnose with my notes here or upgrade as soon as possible (even a basic "gaming" build which is sufficient for pretty much anything if you don't do anything serious on your machine should only set you back £500/$750) (unsure of current exchange rate). :|

Which Windows are you using (I guess Vista)
And looking at that laptop it also looks like one of those "budget low end" laptops (no offence, but can't expect decent performance after a period of time with it)

Which AV/protection are you using.

Try in Safe Mode with everything (AV/protection) disabled and see if the same issue occurs.

Also, when plugging in normally, view the Task Manager to see what it might be doing.

Some apps if left unchecked would get overly excited over a new drive and molest it for possible media for it to add to the library (Fuck you Winamp. I love you and all but why does it insist on using the agent? Then again I've never checked the settings but this only happens every now and then for me as it's rare for me to plugin a drive while I'm using winamp; regardless, rant over :P)

Lastly but unlikely, you brought your sticks from China which has evils in it.

Let me know how you get on ;)

The CPU is from 2005, and you're running Vista on it. Unfortunately, due to these 2 cases (but NOT because Vista is "crap") I highly believe it's not improvable based on experience.

Do you record videos with MUGEN at 640x480 (whatever the jumped up resolution is)? That for your PC is a massive strain by itself and is really not fit for this generation.

The CPU is more suited for powering Windows XP; it can actually be decent once I push it down to 13~ processes.

But for Vista and above, no matter how much I try to tweak/disable services, it never improves performance as much as I could with XP. It would marginally improve it, but is overall superficial/placebo.

Also how much RAM do you have? It looks (feels?) like you got 4gb based on those screenshots.

LogMeIn is no longer free, and unless you paid for a subscription (or perhaps know a technical friend who put it on there for you but didn't tell you -- unless he paid for a sub) I recommend you uninstall that and get rid of the service. That's 1 process out of the way.

Search Indexer is on, if you don't search on your machine that usually is a slowdown, especially on old machines. That periodically molests your hard drive which makes your CPU get excited.

Is the first screenshot on bootup (right after you've turned it on)? Vista has a weird problem that I cannot identify but I've come across is that on bootup Windows Update goes absolutely batshit and uses 50% cpu constantly for about 10 minutes. Then whatever else your machine wants to do it will add CPU on top of that. The best way to "fix" it is to disable Windows Update (Automatic Update) although I personally won't do it if you're not too tech savvy about it all.

Naturally, you've got all sorts running in the background, no surprise of course, but I'll give the generic advice/info based on what I see:

Do you use your digital camera anymore? If not, uninstall the software, it'll take 2 processes off.
What the hell is GyStation? lol. Can't google at the moment
Is your PC a "media centre" PC? (i.e. other devices retrieve media off it), if not, killing that service (Media Centre, I think it's called) will free up 2 more.
Not sure what your PC is trying to do on the first screenshot, though it's not the cause of high CPU it's still a foreign object -- noticde the "taskeng" bit had "UpdateChecker.exe" trying to run; this is from scheduled tasks (Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Task Scheduler) -- see what is scheduled there and kill them if you think it's not needed (a lot of shit ends up there sometimes that constantly runs checking for updates and whatnot)

Also unfortunately the screenshots taken does not identify the high CPU usage at the time. Best to use Task Manager first (make sure to click "show processes from all users") and then from there click "View > Select Columns" and tick "PID". Click on the CPU column to sort it by CPU usage (ignore System Idle Process), find the culprit during a high spike, identify the PID, use Process Explorer to see exactly what it is (if it's svchost, open the culprit and see what's assigned to the svchost, and then we'll further kill things from there depending on what).

Whenever I record videos, sometimes the computer will stutter a bit, and even then there are times where when I'm just browsing the net or whatever, the computer SOMETIMES stutters a little, as though it's about to lock up. Tonight, while recording just a 6 second clip from MUGEN, the computer locked up and stuttered for about 5 seconds...which it's never done before so yeah...can anyone help a bro out? : S

Forgot to address this, but it's best to check via Resource Monitor (go to Task Manager, click on Performance tab, then click on Resource Monitor) to see what is being written to the hard drive at the time. If something else is molesting it then doing any other activity which involves writing data to the drive would be massively slow.

Let's not forget that for a full game, it's possible to have some custom stuff going on for lifebars.

We can have custom portraits if needed.
Another thing I've always loved was the interaction portraits in Dragon Ball Legends on Saturn : the portraits would change whether you're in idle state, attack or gethit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHqwXfyFtqQ

If I remember right, LadyKiki, had all of them ripped years ago back in zgteam times plus made all the existing ones too, could be some good reference.

Yeh I ripped and uploaded/shared them but I didn't make or edit any. Still, here they are if someone wants to have a play, I'm sure any DBZ fan would have them anyway haha :D

It's on my dropbox, too lazy to FTP it up, so if bandwith errors occur let me know, otherwise, I'm sure the team would want to draw their own anyway, but take it as inspiration/quick reference if anything =)

Hmm in my opinion besides maybe Indexing Service/Windows Update, I don't think stopping the Windows built in services would reduce CPU usage that much. It'll help, but requires what I would describe as intimate knowledge of your own machine (and if you're just starting out, a lot of reading/research). What XGargoyle said works, but needs effort on your part and will bring about overall a smoother machine.

For example, I can safely say all machines I use on a day to day basis (my laptop at work, my servers, and my home PC) I know intimately, if something is disabled/missing in the task manager I can usually spot it; I know what I can safely disable to tune my machines to the max without affecting day to day use. Likewise, I can easily spot a foreign task/object running in the task manager by only giving it a brief look.

So lets pick your details about.

What's your CPU?
What Windows do you use? (I presume XP, 70~ processes is very low. Vista/7 (not sure about 8, don't own it) runs at 100 on a minimal level)
What virus scanner/protection do you have?
When the CPU jumps to 70%, what can you see in the task manager that's causing it?

Am I the only one that actually enjoys the select screen having mugen all over just to drive the point home that this isnt a commercial game? I kinda would like to keep that going on. Drives the whole idea that this is indie and it prevents people from trying to sell it or whatever as if it was a real game.

I would do the same, "powered by MUGEN" etc.

Also add a disclaimer somewhere (maybe before the CPS2 or whatever the arcade stuff is called) that "if you paid money for this game, you have been scammed, please report the seller and go get your money back"

Quote
Strongly disagree. The standard motif is just awful in both appearance and sound. A lack of motif never stopped the sale of other way-worse-looking M.U.G.E.N compilations before.

I didn't read it as he'll slap mugen across the screenpack, but in some little corners and nooks, though it seems we're all looking at it from different viewpoints here.

You seem to have it well handled. Then yeh anything under 1.5 should be sufficient. After some testing you may decide to tweak it further, etc.

Aha my favourite topic :D

I would suggest only a very slight multiplier, similar to the one found in Budokai 3:

Code:
                                Attack (%)       Defense (%)
          #1 Base Ki Lv <1      100%             94%
          #2 Base Ki Lv 1       100%             96%
          #3 Base Ki Lv 2       100%             98%
          #4 Base Ki Lv 3       100%             100%
          #5 Ki Lv 4            102%             100%
          #6 Ki Lv 6            104%             100%
          #7 Ki Lv 7            106%             100%
          #8 Ki Lv 8            110%             100%

Going by the model above each transformation rises your attack % only ever so slightly. A few guys on the forum are on the side of that transformations are pointless and overpowered, which I agree with given the history. You don't have repeat this.

Cyanide likes to give drawbacks to transformations (similar to Shin Akuma's low defence) in exchange for boosted power.

I on the other hand like to use it to give a slight power boost AND/OR unlocking more features of the character. Alternatively, I'm also actually prefer the method to actually cripple your character in its base form, maybe by limiting its combo potential, or power, speed, etc, and then when finally transformed do you get your "100%" MUGEN power (the "standard" if outside of a game versus other characters).

How long does the power last in your char(s)? If it's quite long (say, 30 seconds) then I'd consider 1.15/1.25, if only for 10s then 1.5 seems OK.

Can only upgrade custom cars :bigcry:

I also unlocked all my stuff using the Hyper Speeder, it's a joy to control.

But, as Story Mode forces you to play Blue Falcon, thinking back, I'd prefer to stick with Blue Falcon and mastering it, if you're intent on beating every chapter of story mode on Very Hard.

It's not hard to switchover regardless, so your call.

This is a very great game and it's hard to get people into it, so treasure it. As it stands there might never be another one =(

Specs of PC/laptop please.

I just tried to do the same on my computer and I have to admit it was actually putting a minor strain on the CPU. So on a weaker machine it will not handle it I think.

If you have Firefox, I recommend putting Flash Block (I think there's one for Chrome .... not sure, search for it) on your browser. You can then open other YouTube tabs but not play them until you need to.

On the 5th hidden cup (that you need to unlock) one of the courses is called Outer Space ... it's a pretty course with meteors pew pewing down in the background (but not on the course).

Chapter 4 and 7 are by far my favourites.

Highly recommend this impressive video:

Action starts at 15:00 mark.

So, in all these years I've messed around with images, I've never actually figured out how people do this fine outline black edges effect around a sprite or model or object...

I used to invert the object in a selection, then expand it by a 3-5 pixels depending on the object. Then fill it with black.

This in theory works, but seems to produce a quite not so smooth black outline.

In a lot of people's signatures it can be seen especially in MMOs. Unfortunately the example I had wanted to show, the link don't work no more :(

But the best way to describe it is that it looks like cel shading. Is there a filter for such purposes, or is it all a manual jobby?

I admit there was one point in time where I ripped Guilty Gear X and beyond sprites (up to XX #Reload) but didn't share the tool I used, because I paid for it. It was from some weird-ass Japanese site which took a lot of work to get around (had to purchase credits first, similar to bitcoin).

Afterall, I was working 4 jobs and had some spare cash, and I was only a kid. :bigcry:

I guess I'm selfish.

Ah yes that is similar, except the application would be the game itself, not much difference really. I believe there is a Budokai 3 Piccolo floating around somewhere now that I rethink about it. Haven't seen the SF4/TekkenxSF thing though.

Back in 2001 there was a Final Bout Goku floating around too, whoever ripped that (despite it being butt ugly) was impressive. It had a staggering 2000~ sprite count lol

But yeh, prefer fully original if there is something else like that. It gives you total freedom.

Regarding "sprites" (or graphics?), and ignoring coding for now, has anyone else attempted an original or even importing something into a 3D application and ripping the sprites from that? Like ReubenKee did with his Dragon Claw.

Difficulty wise unless you're experienced with giving your model animations (skeletons, I think is the term) it's probably not as popular, but still. Crisis Core/Dissidia models were considered at one point, but making them animate was a pain in the ass.

---

On a none serious note, I hope to champion the DBZ style with transformations and huzzzaahhhh! :beam:

Imagine, a transforming Ryu. When you ascend to the second level (i.e. SSJ, but not yellow hair), he takes his shirt and head band off.
Think of it as "getting serious!" =)

Short doing a reformat, I'm out of ideas to officially fix this without seeing it for myself. Something is conflicting, most likely a background process.

I do not believe it would be a driver issue for now.

If you're feeling brave, I'm happy to go on Skype, and combined with the use of TeamViewer, speak over Skype while you watch me remote control your PC to determine what's wrong. You can pull the plug at anytime.

Reason I say brave is afterall, letting some random stranger run your PC over the internet is never a good idea.

All I would do is eliminate your background processes (But not disable/do anything permanent) until I am sure that your PC is running optimally without random junk in the background possibly causing Flash videos to stutter while streaming.

Your call.

maximilianjesus's suggestion also works but that's if you feel like doing so.
