Hello Hien; when you get the chance, I would like to commission more Misty sprites. No1Whammy has given me the go-ahead to keep supervising this project.
Is that a Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee reference? I'll accept that...in this case. But to anyone reading, that doesn't mean I want bullshit like Eevee not evolving to become a regular thing!
Edit: Also, does the hurt animation still need finishing?
I love that Misty animation except for one thing; the lack of a transitional frame or so between when her kick ends and she falls is rather noticeable. Possibly less so if the animation is played more quickly in-game, but I'm not sure. More frames might be nice, to show her lowering her legs for the landing.
Since any feedback is welcome, I'm going to chime in as another person who does not care for the changes. In fact, as someone who had waited a long time for PSG characters in MUGEN, and thought the older version nailed it better than I had imagined--and I know some other people who feel the same way--this is downright disheartening. From what footage I've seen, she doesn't even swear anymore--sad. I'm not here to call you wrong for not wanting to make NSFW characters anymore--after all, when some fans don't like it when it's NSFW and others don't like it when it's SFW, that's a call you'll have to make yourself--but if that's how you want it I'm boggled as to why you'd want to keep making Panty at all.
Frankly, she's not the equivalent of characters like Deadpool or Peter Griffin, whose series are generally for mature audiences but who do have other humorous aspects to their personalities besides NSFW ones. Panty is horny and she's foul-mouthed; she has a few more character traits but those are her only comedic traits. Being able to turn underwear into guns is part of her character, but it's not really comedic, and since fighting game characters regularly pull weapons seemingly out of nowhere, the magical part isn't even apparent in a MUGEN character. Sure; the characters were showing a bit more depth towards the ends of the series and they might have continued to do so if it lasted longer, but it didn't so they didn't. If you don't want to do NSFW jokes, Panty is not your character. If the audience you're wanting to please is not a fan of such jokes, then they probably don't like this series, anyway, so why make anything at all from it?
Admittedly, part of the problem here is that when there was objectionable stuff you just seemed to throw in more guns to replace it; you could make safe-for-work version a bit better by replacing NSFW jokes with other kinds of jokes instead, which weren't in the series but seem right for its tone, but all of that is speculative. The bottom line is, you can make an accurate Panty, you can make a funny Panty, you can make a safe-for-work Panty. But you cannot make an accurate, funny, and safe-for-work Panty.
My opinion is you should just move on to making characters you can make without compromising their identity over concerns about family-friendliness; there are plenty such characters. In fact, you might actually be able to make an accurate Stocking without going NSFW, since her big obsession with sweets isn't NSFW. She also seems to be more of a conventionally competent martial artist, so you could get a lot of potential for moves of that sort. Of course, though, this ties in to how Stocking was generally the straight-laced, unfunny foil to Panty, so maybe that's a bit double-edged.
Re: What's with all the articles getting deleted from the MUGEN Wiki?
Plasmoid, I thank you for a more helpful response.
I admit, I'm guilty of assuming that in-depth=informative. I have never edited the MUGEN wiki, so I have no idea what its rules are, but as I'm familiar with wikis in general, and their inherently lax standards that tend to lead to problems, I should have recognized that wasn't very good judgment of me.
But to answer your question, the point for me is that not every character comes with instructions how to play them. If they're made by good creators, they usually do, but some don't. Then add to that that some characters are made in Japanese. I actually know Japanese well enough that I'm able to piece together "How to play" guides sometimes, but then there are cases wherein a Japanese file's text turns into gibberish. I'm still not sure what causes it, as other pages and files in Japanese render display just fine in the same browsers/programs. Thus, I place value on having these instructions elsewhere. Might they be terrible? Of course. But at least when I have terrible instructions on how to play a character, I can test them out to determine if they're bogus or not. I can't do so much with no instructions at all.
What's with all the articles getting deleted from the MUGEN Wiki?
I've been noticing this is happening a lot. The MUGEN Wiki used to be full of informative articles on characters and their movesets. Now, for whatever reason, a lot of that has gone away. Sometimes pages have been stripped of most of their content, but many others are gone entirely.
Has anyone else noticed this? If so, any idea why it's happening? Does an alternate site exist for good character guides?
The embarassing "Does My Controller Suck for MUGEN?" Thread
So, I've recently gotten back into this, and tried to get better at playing it. The problem is, I think my controller might suck for it. I have a Logitech Precision, and it doesn't seem good at a "rotation" attacks (that is; ones with commands like "down, down right, right"). This might be because its D-pad isn't a straight "plus" shape, but rather, is embedded in a SEGA Genesis-style circle that probably has four additional buttons under there for diagonal movement; pressing these on accident might screw things up.
Now, some people might wonder if it's actually me that sucks at MUGEN. I'm surprisingly open to that humble possibility, but the problem with that theory is that I've tried to play it with my keyboard, and done better. For all I know, most people do that, but I rather doubt it, as the keyboard still isn't great for it.
So can anyone here who's got a lot of experience explain what all this is about? Does my controller suck, does keyboard suck, and what's the best way to play MUGEN?
Howdy there, Hien. Whammy may have told you that I'm interested in helping him pay for your commissions. If you're ready, just provide your PayPal and I'll send you my half of the bill.
Re: Metal Warrior Works - Special Offer: Commissions only $4 USD
Another option, if you want your works not to be stolen, is make the previews JPGs. Those aren't really usable for anything but quick displays. Of course, that won't work for animation.
So despite theft, are commissions still available, or have policies changed?
Sorry to bump this. No1whammy, I did receive your private message, but for some reason this site does not let me send replies, or in fact, do anything with private messages other than read ones other people sent. I have no idea why not; maybe one needs more posts to get that privilege. I'd still like to talk with you on this; can you think of some other way?
No1whammy, I would like to be part of this. I unfortunately can't make sprites, but I would be willing to help pay people for Misty sprites. How many people do you know who could work on such sprites?
