so, remember those updates to my older characters that I've failed to do for like 3 years, now? Well, one thing holding them up is that I had several different text files filled with various bugs and stuff I wanted to change in my older characters, and I recently just finished cleaning them all up and consolidating everything into one big bug fix file.

it's the Nolan Batman movies that definitely are what Warner is desperately trying to replicate, and that influences every single creative decision being made on these movies.

I really don't like this Hawkman, he's a bit of an idiot and not being actively relevant. I liked Michael Shanks' much better in Smallville at least for his personality ("think of me as your parole officer... but with a mace").
And holy shit stop making John Barrowman be such an insane complete jackass dumbshit so much.

I will now rant about Agents of SHIELD's latest episode

so, the big thing this week was the reveal of the secret origin of Hydra. The idea that Hydra stretches back further than WWII is a recent invention in the comics, and one that was very interesting there: in the comics, both SHIELD and Hydra are descended from an ancient order, that defended the planet from extranormal and extraplanetary threats, formed when Imhotep led a group of warriors to repel an invasion by a Brood ship; that order would later split, over the course of centuries, into warring factions: the Brotherhood of the Shield, and the Brotherhood of the Spear. Both organizations, gradually growing more and more defunct, suddenly evolved into modern espionage/terrorist agencies in the aftermath of WWII, under the leadership of Nick Fury and Baron Strucker respectively.

It would be pretty easy to translate most of that backstory to the MCU, with details changed, of course. The exposition for Hydra in Captain America 1 is vague enough that the ancient backstory could fairly easily be slotted in, with Red Skull merely leading that specific incarnation of the group. So when Gideon Malick starts talking about Hydra's secret history, I thought that's where they were going, and got pretty excited.

Instead, what was revealed was some bizarre backstory about how Hydra's one true purpose over the course of millennia has been worshiping "a very powerful, ancient Inhuman" who was exiled to an alien planet (using the Monolith), and they seek and await this Inhuman's return, after which it will rule over the world with Hydra at its side. And like, what the fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Like, all along, Hydra has been an appendage to this random ancient Inhuman? Really? It trivializes everything Hydra has done so far, and made villains like the Red Skull and Zola look like they're playing second-fiddle, not trying to conquer the world but instead get it ready for the Inhuman Apocalypse ripoff.

So yeah, I dunno, it's pretty dumb, and I'm pretty glad the actual movies are completely and utterly ignoring this show.
