....yeah. that and other issues are why it sits unfinished. letting it sit for a while and finding more things wrong with it, blah blah. probably gonna restart it entirely, honestly. maybe incorporate some design cues from the new game? i'd have to look at those designs, because also maybe not.

spitballing ideas and theory over on twitter with walt, and this. a method that might prove useful for XII/XIII -> CvS conversion? maybe?

10-minute test: I) original xii sprite, II) recolored, III) bilinear resize at 45%H/47%W (perhaps incorrect math?). IV) forced palette, V) maki/eagle shades slapped in. VI) very minor cleanup and color adjustment. there's potential.

photoshop is extra handy. before resizing, i made a duplicate with a transparent background and indexed it to the current palette. to lock it in for step 4, wherein i indexed the resized version and used "previous palette." cuts out a lot of guess work. there's room for refinement in there, but it involves a whole lot of tinkering i didn't want to do. just wanted to see how quickly i could get a mostly accurate, mostly complete sprite. i'm sure the usefulness will vary between characters.

then i had to revisit for a minute or two and do a sloppy edit of Best Andy, complete with "i don't feel like messing with it" belt thing

double size version resized weird, but it's no big. hopefully this will be useful?

Seeing those logos make me wish your battle arena toshinden game was a thing. Really like the touch up on the megaman sprite. It really make them pop up a bit more and sigma's face def looks way better than it did before

incidentally, the old toshinden logo's psd file was pulled out of retirement to look at how i achieved the effects i wanted. hah.

and the mmx stuff? thanks much. tried to half-ass match the shading in the ps1 games and the designs of maverick hunter x. moooostly successful, but it definitely feels like some palette tweaking would make it all really POP. i just didn't want to make some kind of unattainable standard for the hypothetical romhack, as i am super uninformed on what kind of limitations i'd have to adhere to.

and i'd never noticed the weird shading on storm eagle's wings before looking at these sprites. that original palette choice is... not optimal.

a bit of a non-update. pixel commissions are currently temporarily closed, unfort. got a few to finish, but this other project is taking all of my pixel energy for the time being. probably for a while. single sprites aren't completely off the table, but animations are a big ol nope for now. i may make exceptions.

got a few that are LONG OVERDUE to finish, i should say. i spread myself far too thin (whoops again) and am still catching up. a few of you reading this with pending stuff? still coming. working now, actually. but once the queue is done, pixel art commissions are on hiatus barring any particularly interesting projects or price points. oof.

HOWEVER. being a non-update, i have some semi-recently completed stuff to throw out. enjoy?


CvS pixel commission in both expanded and limited palettes


two separate comparison shots of an idea i had for a graphical overhaul romhack that i'll never be able to make :) using the same palettes, but i would definitely want to edit those.

it's just... an odd crossover choice. i'd almost rather them throw in a newbie that's literally the same character without the tie-in. i mean...

lame as he may be, he's at least technically samsho.

but then, i've been anti-guest in non-crossover games for a while now. my opinion on this means little. if people enjoy him, sweet. happy for you, dudes.

because that would be redundant in a game full of samurai
heaven forbid they add another samurai to a game called samurai shodown, right?

this is right up there with Negan in terms of "but why, though?"
still gonna try him out because i bought the season, but meh. a counter-guest soulcalibur pick would have been preferable, sure, but there are also still a TON of absent samsho reps.

thanks! the style is classic and you'd figure i'd have it down by now, but alas. it's refreshing, though.

and now, ingrid:

in both art-accurate (and also more busy) and simplified a la CFJ versions. 2 would be infinitely easier to mass produce, but i prefer the somewhat complex design. maybe a middle ground between them iunno

in paypal, you can filter your transaction history. choose a date range, even. because PMs here don't seem to give exact dates, i had to just search through a year's worth to come up with the transaction on the date above. if it's not showing on your end, i'll gladly refund again as an act of good faith.

again, that was my blunder. i took on too many at once as a quick way to make some money and prioritized/organized poorly. however, times have changed. there's a better system in place on my end, as well as a better reason to focus on them than "i want money for a thing." unemployment rates being what they are in the world right now, i'm sure you can fill in the blanks just fine. trying not to burn any bridges or find myself blacklisted for a half a decade old $20 mistake.
