13 HOUR MOVIE MARATHON (YESTERDAY)

Into The Woods
Stephen Sondheim's acclaimed fairy tale musical finally makes it to the big screen after several aborted attempts. After spending the first half of the movie retelling of several famous fairy tales, things take a decidedly darker turn as the movie explores what happens after you get what you wish for. It's pretty good! I haven't seen the stage version but I could tell that there were some odd cuts/changes (some for time, some to make the movie less dark/more palatable for a Disney audience), but the movie still retains its essential darkness (at least as far as I can tell from reading about what was changed) and none of the changes ruins the movie, I think.

Big Eyes
The real life story of a painter (Amy Adams) whose work was falsely claimed and sold by her husband (Christoph Waltz) as his own; her unique paintings (of giant-eyed, sad children) became a cultural phenomenon, selling millions of prints. For over a decade she was forced to lie to the entire world to keep up this charade, and was forced to spend the majority of her time in virtual isolation in her studio cranking out new paintings. This is also a pretty good movie! Adams and Waltz are great, and it's really nice to see Tim Burton reteaming with the screenwriters of Ed Wood, because this is easily the best Burton movie in a over a decade.

Top Five
Written, directed, and starring Chris Rock, this movie is about a comedian who has to confront his past and present life and career when he spends a day in NYC being interviewed by a journalist (Rosario Dawson). This movie is fantastic, simply incredible. It's whip-smart and absolutely hysterical. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Wild
Another true story type deals: following the death of her mother, her divorce, and years of drug abuse and self-destructive behavior, a Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) impulsively decides to hike over a thousand miles on the Pacific Crest Trail (going from southern California to Washington state), alone, with no prior experience. An incredibly powerful, incredibly great movie. Witherspoon is simply incredible and now I really wanna start reading Cheryl Strayed's memoir that this was based on, and also her other writing.

The Hobbit: battle of five armies or something (no trailer for this)
these Hobbit movies are so fucking frustrating because there's clearly a good/decent movie underneath all this stupid drawn out shit and weightless, terrible CGI sequences. It's such a depressing thing to watch, and I truly believe a good movie can be made of these three piles; the performances are there! Martin Freeman is great and Bilbo actually does have a whole arc, even though it's stretched out to the point of parody and hacked to pieces because of all the random irrelevant shit added in between.

Also I'm glad that Peter Jackson finally found a place for climax of the second movie (where Smaug attacks Laketown gets killed) by jamming it into the opening of the third movie. I guess this must be a new innovation in cinema like 48FPS and stuff, but it sure is weird jamming an ending of one movie into the first 10 minutes of a different movie! ¬_¬

Selma
A historical drama about the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches spearheaded by Martin Luther King, Jr. This is the best movie of the year, easily. Intensely gripping, incredibly written, directed, and acted, and immensely emotionally powerful. I simply cannot recommend this movie enough. It is a movie whose message is not only incredibly relevant because of last year's striking down of key provisions of the Voting Rights act these marches achieved (the loss of said provisions have led almost immediately to incredibly restrictive voting registration limits that have overwhelmingly disenfranchised minority voters, all in the service of literally non-existent voter fraud), but also because of the events in Ferguson and elsewhere in the past few months. This is a movie everyone should see.

I think it would've been better if we waited until artistropeadope flipped out again instead of jumping the gun but I mean I'm not like super concerned about it because it's a forgone conclusion so eh I dunno.

He has a bug with his take no prisoners super on 2 on 2 battle. When he catches both opponents at the same time with his take no prisoners super & is about to hang them mugen freezes.
I can't reproduce this?

the second target is dropped to prevent that MUGEN bug that causes this.

I did however notice that if you hit one opponent, and then a few ticks later the other opponent walks or jumps onto the wire hitbox, they will also be hit. But then the move fails to proceed to the hanging point anyway, it just activates a failsafe and ends the move. But I just fixed that and now the only way both opponents can be hit with the wire is if they're hit at the exact same time.

I also found a mugen game freeze bug with your Ryo & it happened on 2 on 2 battles as well. Same situation but with his Moko Raijinsetsu....both opponents get hit by it & mugen freezes.
this though, I did get to work. I'll apply the same solution I did to Rolento for Ryo.

The topic is: "Most overused Mugen character in your opinion?"
Most overused: Popular characters I don't like
Most underrated: Unpopular characters I like

I think you might need to be a little more specific. Like, which ones exactly you do and don't like.
ooof. Fortunately Cyanide stepped in, but...
Subjective to EVERYONE EVER IN MUGEN.

No definites. This thread has been here before and it's either a circlejerk or a bashfest, take your pick
What is a circlejerk?

Roberto Orci isn't writing Star Trek 3 either, thank goodness.

Tim Burton says that a Beetlejuice sequel is closer than ever.

also to tie into this:
Then there is this: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/12/19/exclusive-sony-emails-reveal-studio-head-wants-idris-elba-for-the-next-james-bond.html

And here I am, screaming to Asgard in hope that this is true and we get Idris Elba to say "My name is Bond, James Bond".
bloviating, idiotic asshole Rush Limbaugh is absolutely outraged by this suggestion, noting that "Ian Fleming never created a black Brit to play James Bond. The character was always white. He was always Scottish.”

... which is not true. It gives me great delight to "umm, actually" this douche: for the majority of the Fleming books, James Bond was not Scottish, at all, just English. Fleming retconned in his being Scottish after the first Sean Connery Bond movie came out, and to date, Connery has been the only Scottish Bond!

that Superman hitting Batman is some bullshit!
No way! Batman deserved it! That image is a recreation from the really great DC Christmas story "Yes Tyrone, There is a Santa Claus"; wherein Superman tries to restore a child's faith in Santa Claus by dressing up as Super-Santa and flying a sleigh full of presents to the kid's house, but is confronted by a jetpack'd Batman, who lambasts Superman for wasting his time and taking the night off from superheroing to play dress up. Superman is convinced by Batman's tirade and flies away, but eventually reconsiders and decides to at least give the kid the presents. When he arrives at the house he finds that Batman is there, dressed as Bat-Santa, stealing Superman's idea and getting all the credit. So Superman socks him right in the face!

It wouldn't be too bad, with just 3 combined palettes, and only the metal parts changing (and even then only changing order). Shouldn't be too bad to crank out 21~ pals for that.

I'm not 100% on how to accomplish it, and I'll have to go through JMorph's Chun-Li to wrap my little brain around it, but I thought it might be a cool little addition.
if you do, don't use the Chun-Li on my site, use the beta where the color shifting code isn't quite as stupid

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan don't compare Michael Bay movies and The Fast and Furious ones! The Fast movies are certainly pretty dumb, but they're really fun, just gloriously dumb fun!!!

Of all the things to get mad at in Tim Burton's dumb quote, "happy superhero" is by far the most hilariously stupid.

I mean Jesus, this is what lead to Man of Steel, superheroes not being allowed to be happy, who the fuck wants that?

I liked Lord of the Rings but Jackson has really fallen off since then, King Kong and the Hobbit movies are absurdly overly long messes (but have some good moments) and The Lovely Bones is a misfire on practically every level. I want to see Braindead-era Peter Jackson come back!

And now for another presentation of "Directors who did good stuff in the past and have, of late, fallen off quite a bit, complain about modern superhero movies in an absurdly hypocritical, amazingly non-self-aware manner"; our last episode featured Batman (Returns) director Tim Burton, and for tonight we have Lord of the Rings (and sadly, The Hobbit trilogy) director Peter Jackson:
Peter Jackson said:
I don't really like the Hollywood blockbuster bandwagon that exists right now. The industry and the advent of all the technology, has kind of lost its way. It's become very franchise driven and superhero driven.

Am I doing this right.

as we all know, Brak's Dad briefly gained superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive camel; the powers he gained included, among other things, the ability to jump and hang from high places. Thus we have this: this is not an animatronic, it's just Brak's Dad, hanging out in a vent.

What TV shows are ya watching?
Any good books you've read recently?
If someone asks you about what your favorite creation was again, what would happen?

- Gravity. Or was that last year? Whatever, it's the most recent movie that made an impression on me.
It was last year but I'll allow it!

I don't have any questions for you. Though I can't pass up the chance to speak with you. I'll keep it brief. I'd just like to thank you for all your works and tutorials. Your works were of course the deciding factor in me finally trying my hand in char creation after like a year and a half of just being a player/occasionally dropping in on MUGEN sites from time to time. I hope to see you around here once in awhile so we could perhaps talk again. Take care and happy holidays.
ditto

He'd be a great Bond.

In the wake of the The Interview canceling, the Alamo Drafthouse chain of theaters planned to replace the showings of The Interview with Team America (which also similarly has Kim Jong-il as an antagonist). Not to be outdone by Sony, however, Paramount has canceled those screenings.

There's gonna be a comic sequel to David Cronenburg's The Fly (ignoring that shitty sequel that already exists, of course). Sounds like it could be an interesting concept but it also sounds kinda dumb, like basically a zombie story except with humanoid flies?

yeah i'm sure that's why the film flopped dummy
It led to a lot of the fans rejecting the movie, which for a "unknown" property to everyday moviegoers (at least when compared to Batman or TMNT, or something) meant that there wasn't an existing audience to hype up the movie themselves. How much impact that had on the box office is of course questionable, especially since that movie had so, so many other things going against it, but I think it may have contributed a small part in its failure, maybe.

Is there anything that isn't money that would lure you back into making more stuff for MUGEN? I'm sure we could set up some kind of sacrificial altar, or something, at the very least.
Were you aware of this weird Rare Akuma fanfic? (caution: I am too terrified to read it so caveat emptor on clicking it!!!)
