Seriously, was that part even necessary to include? If you really don't care, then just release it without a word :). The S.F.W. attitude actually made me not want to download it...

The projectiles lack that nice flashy CVS look (Just kind of an ugly alpha channel toggle) and have a bit of a weightless feel. This makes them inconsistent with the other effect sprites.

Normals don't appear to link correctly. Not sure if this was intended.

Too much envshake on normals. Seriously there's more envshake on the Fierce Hits than a special. Also a little excessive on fall moves. Apparently your opponent gains weight when you use Ash :P

Emerald Ankle Super seems to be ignoring a standing block state at close range.

Most of all, the graphics are still KOF. No conversion :(. Might want to make the thread title, "CVS Style Ash." I can understand that manually converting each sprite to CvS style can be a bit daunting, though.

Anyway, those are just a few of the problems I found in a short playtest. I didn't look at the CLSN's and such. It's an alright character, but could be better... that is, if you give a fuck. :P

:P But seriously, its a better fix than what became of my old Evil Dan WIP. I mean seriously, "I'll cut off yer head!" and, "Dead or alive you're coming with me!" Yick! Should've told that guy to make his own and not use my sprites.

But before I stray too far from the subject. Go ahead and use AdonE- er.. Rage Adon. It's much better now than in the shambles I left it years ago. :)

So you're trying accomplish the first series of Midnight Yaoi edits?

I'm not one to normally complain about an idea, but wasn't the purpose of Midnight Bliss to turn a male character into a female version? Perhaps due to something in Dimitri's psyche, making him only comfortable when he feeds upon females. Just a guess. But if I see an edit of E. Honda in a G-String wearing tassles over his nipples, I will be egregiously upset.

The shading on the edit itself just doesn't work Regardless of time constraints, you should know whether or not something doesn't look good. The muscle structure on the torso is "off" as well. Even for a 'female-eyecandy' version of the edit, the costume change is not really pulling it off for me. I can understand a small amount of time and probably a large amount of effort went into it, though. Kudos for that. However, I'm not blown away.

The fireball sprites are specifically changed to the more traditional Ryu/Ken/Gouki style for a reason (which will be explained in the storyboard and intro vs Gouki). The dash however isn't going to change.

In the midst of tweaking things I decided to record an example of the Basic AI the character now has.

Evil Dan A.I. Video

It's not quite up to snuff with Evil Ryu or Evil Ken, but it gets the job done for what it is. Later I plan to make it a bit more difficult. In the video you can see some that the combo chains have been tweaked. They now work much better than they previously did. Special Cancels are possible now as well. Blah, blah blah... Expect some graphical updates in the next video to come.

That is Hi-Res Mugen. Saved as a JPG causing some blur, too. (You can incorporate other hitsparks/characters/etc from "low res mugen")
The reason you're screenshots lose their quality it because you're converting them to different filetypes. It's you're fault, honestly.

I hate to get off-topic in an edit release thread, but in this case? You're quite wrong and really putting your foot in your mouth. Though something tells me you're not going to care and continue to do it. Thumbs up, O' ye of little comprehension, for ignorance is surely bliss.

exelent character, is opensource???

I'd prefer it not to be, but this is the internet and I'm not going to pretend I can stop anyone. Just give me credit and try not to mangle him.

Enlightened words if I've ever seen them. :P

That aside, this is a solid (no pun intended) character! The sound is crisp, controlling him is easy, he doesn't appear to have many bugs. I dig it :D.  I can see alot of "rushing-in and attacking" for a future AI. ;)

So uh... These are pretty much just pitch shifts with added echo, from what I can tell.  o_O

I'm not saying its bad or anything. Just lackluster. There's plenty of effects to tack on to a voice out there to make it sound "evil". Like a Flanger, Phaser, even light Reverb and Chorus. Seems like none of the voices are 'new' as well. It's a bit tricky sometimes... but I've heard sounds of Geese Howard saying, "You cannot escape long pickle." ;)

In summation, while I can appreciate you're putting effort into changing up the sounds... Maybe some variation in the effects could help. :)

Far be it from me to start off with a negative comment about a character, but... This character is a mess. Nothing that can't be fixed of course. :)
This shouldn't be taken as me pointing out everything that's wrong with a character and saying it's a bad character, though. I'm just going to list things that should be looked at and/or fixed.

I. Sound inconsistencies. I'm hearing what sounds like three different voices from various moves. Gouki, and two others. Sound editing is tough, but it's possible to do it. (Hey, if I can get Dan to say "Shoushi!", there's hope for everyone)

II. Graphical inconsistencies. I'm seeing graphics that just plain don't match up. It's cool that he has plenty of flashy effects. I'm all for a little pinache in a character. But, I'm seeing mixed graphical genre's here that make it look very off-putting. Also the PalFX on some of the attacks (the hadouken for example) don't match the projectile color. It's a bit strange to see a blue energy based attack make a character glow inverted orange. :P Hitsparks are in the same department. There's also a graphical glitch on the misogi where the lightning bolt explod appears to end in mid air. Likely it's attatched to the character and moves with it. The supercharge state makes Gouken transparent as well...

III. Controls. Yikes... I was expecting the typical Ryu/Ken style controls, of course. But some things deviate to an unfamiliar state. Minor inconvenience at best though. If need be, a person can alter the controls accordingly. Another thing is I've never had a character automatically parry for me (Harms the AI while in dizzy or stunned states). Feels like I'm cheating. :P I was also able to pull off cancels that I shouldn't be able to.

IV. Shun Goku Satsu is uh.. Odd? It misses completely at about half to close character range. It had problems in the win state as well. I ended up being locked in a excessivly long flaming winpose.

V. The uh.. secondary stance (?) I see while in training mode is 2 frames of animation. That just doesn't work.

I understand Alex is in Iraq, though. Best of luck to him in the desert. Hopefully his MOS keeps him away from IED's and excessive combat. ;) Anyhow... There's still alot of bugs prevailent in Gouken, but they can be worked out in the future.

Small Update: The character is set for a sprite overhaul... well.. not much of one. I am going to adjust it accordingly for the palettes sake. The old palette was trash and has redundant and unused colors. The overhaul I will be doing will allow proper color changing of handguard/gauntlet/gloves (whatever you want to call them), gi, skin, eyes, and hair.

As of right now though, I've given him:
I. A basic AI (though nothing compared to the other impossible AI's out there)
II. Fixed more coding and rehashed what was basically stolen code from the alpha
III. Added 12 palettes (1-6 are Light Dan-ish colors, 7-12 are dark evil colors)
IV. Revamped a couple sounds (nothing major)
V. Fixed some old combo chains and added some new ones
VI. Fixed some (but not all) redundant coding/sprites/airfile data...

As I update all the sprites and palettes accordingly, it'll open up more colors to be used for swanky special effects so, expect most of what you've seen in the youtube videos to change. I'm sorry to say I don't have a real "date" to set for any kind of release yet. But I'd rather have something that's quality out there, rather than another trashy alpha build.

Edit: I know the majority of you aren't particularly interested in yet another evil character. But there are two things I want you to know: I'm going to put alot of time and effort into this to make it a great character. And this is good practice for the next 'non evil' character release.

Well, It's been a few days since I've posted any kind of update on this character. But, I've worked on it none the less. Still working on some damage balancing, but other than that... The taunt sprite has been redone, a traditional asura warp brought back (with a different style pose), the fireball has been given a slight makeover, a new win state, and a new variant of the Raging Demon.

There's still more to come, though. Likely another hyper, and a character exclusive move. I'm still toying with the idea of character specific intros. Specifically one against Sagat discussing Dan's hatred for him, and one against Gouki revealing where Dan learned to embrace 'the evil/murderous intent'.

looks good you should for sure have a intro with gouken about how he can't be his student anymore because his anger for sagat is to much and then dan turns evil  >:D

I'll keep that in mind.

How many of you remember THIS p.o.s. alpha build codenamed Hoshikuro? Couldn't be very many of you. I left the reins to a gentleman named Ilcane, I believe who went on to make Evil Dan in the style of the late Reu's Evil Ken. That's all fine and dandy, it turned out nice. But recently I redownloaded mugen and decided to dig up some of my old projects. Hoshikuro (The codenamed Evil Dan) being the prime candidate for an update.

I've rebalanced some things, added new sound (sadly I couldn't capture that in the video), added combo-ability, revamped the old transformation intro... Still more to come. Next on my list is a specific intro vs Sagat.
