BTW Japan is awesome... If things work out you should totally get her to show you around her country.

Also, make sure she doesn't eat too much McDonald's... Japanese food is on the whole really healthy and the greasy crap available in North America might make her ill.

it already looks blurry, look at the chain and hands

You're right, I'll have to move slower when I'm capturing  :)

Keep it high-res, there's absolutely no point to downsizing your sprites if you can get them at this resolution with the same amount of effort.

Also, I would suggest wearing a different pair of shoes, they're too dark and blend in with your pants.  It's much easier to handle palette making for photographed characters when the clothing has high contrast.

I definitely agree on keeping it High-Res... why bother not... I agree on the shoes... I ran into a problem that my sheet wasn't long enough to chroma-key the floor so I needed black shoes to make it easier to magic-wand them... I'll probably try a different color of pants or get another blue sheet.

So I'm relatively new to MUGEN and unfortunately lack fine-art skills (aka pixel painting ain't happening)... but I do have image editing, text file editing and coding skills... so I was thinking "Hey... I have a digital camera, a blue bed sheet and some packing tape... why don't I make a char of myself..."

I have all sorts of crazy ideas for stupid stuff for my character to do (draw a Nintendo Zapper and shoot the other guy... have a "draw card" attack and summon creatures one in 10 draws or something... even a "Mana" meter I need to fill up to summon certain monsters... have a "cower" button... use video game controllers as whips/nunchucks/projectiles... power up for a special "Power Glove" attack... Portal Gun finishing move... Taking off and throwing a shoe... along with all my un-leet out of shape and practice "What I can remember from TaeKwonDoh and Karate and Martial Arts Movies")

My other goal would be to try to support as many other custom states as I can find (Head off for Fatalities, Midnight Bliss (Shorts and a TShirt instead of Cargos and Sweatshirt)...)

Anyways, all that is about as likely to happen as me getting struck by lightning while in a basement but... just in case and in case you have some pointers for someone starting out on a Real Life MUGEN Character... or if you want to suggest custom states I could support... anyways... Ani-Gif Number 1 "Opening Test"... I think my character might be a little big (though it seems about right for GGXX style chars)...

Hi!

I play the part of SinbadEV on the Internet but in Real Life my name is Benjie.

I live in Canada (eh.) and specifically in the little town of Ottawa.

I stopped going to school 5 years ago and am currently on Parental Leave until January thanks to the birth of my 2 month old daughter who's internet code-name is Sonic.

About 3 weeks ago I discovered this here MUGEN thing and have fun amassing characters and stages (I play with the WinMugen Plus version that allows Hi Res characters and Stages while also allowing Low-Res Stages and characters to be supported on Windows XP).

I discovered MUGEN while researching sprite-art techniques because I was thinking of working on a SNES style RPG with a friend of mine... this whole MUGEN thing has entirely sidetracked that project however.  As it turns out I have little to no artistic talent when it comes to Spriting.

My most common Internet Haunt is http://spring.clan-sy.com which is the home of a free-opensource 3D real-time strategy game engine, I would definitely recommend you at least check it out if you are marginally interested in RTS games.  There are projects ranging from Gundam to Kernel Panic (takes place in TRON-esque cyberspace) to Moderm Warfare to Giant Robots beating eachother up to Star Wars.  Most people play Total Annihilation clones but other Games have been gaining interest too... we get a couple hundred players a day on the matching servers so it's not hard to find someone to help you show you the ropes.

My Other internet interests include: WebComics, DivX, Online Role Playing, Magic the Gathering, Ikariam, Gmail/GChat, Facebook, Emulation, PSP homebrew, LOLCats and Music... usually I find something to obsess about for 1 to 4 weeks and move on to something else after a while... I have good grasp of the English Language and can write clearly and understandably and in such a way as to convey meaning and instruction (When I bother to try  ;P ) and tend to come up with interesting ideas (well, interesting to me at least).

I am frustrated by the following aspects of what I have so far run-across of the MUGEN community:

No good (complete while under active development to add features) Open Source Clone Project for the engine
Files are hosted willy-nilly instead of on nice Central repositories and are therefore difficult to find
80% of the Web-Sites are not in English and people link to them without giving instructions on how to actually find the download links

but none of these things have anything to do with this site in particular... this site is awesome.

Anyways, I'll see y'all in the IRC

It would be cool if you could make stages where falling off the edges killed you... with a character coded correctly this could provide Super Smash Bros style functionality and open up a whole new market for you (I have many friends who would never touch a fighter game but still love to play SSB)

Brawler Style

Sorry if this is out of place, first post.

I was noticing a bunch of MUGEN characters are ripped from brawlers and I was thinking it would be cool if this was included as a mode.

First of all you could just have a very long stage that locks every horizontal screen (or 2, I notice you said ShugenDo would have the ability to set a left and right limit, it would be just a matter of allowing this to be controlled by triggers) and generates some fighters and then unlocks when they are beaten and then have your character have lives and re-spawn instead of losing a match and "win" a match by beating the FINAL character... somehow you would have to have a way to pick a stage instead of a character as an opponent, but it seems pretty trivial after all the other stuff you've already put together.

I was thinking it would also be cool in this mode to have the ability to move "up and down" the stage... it would mean binging an additional jump and crouch button and wouldn't look exactly right (since no characters right now have anything but side to side movement animations)... but otherwise it would add a lot to even normal VS play not just to brawling fights.
