Well when I say realistic I mean kinda like this character http://www.mugen-infantry.net/index.php?ind=database&op=entry_view&iden=2312 . He doesn't fight with laser beams and stuff, just punches and kicks. Do you know of any other characters that fight realistic and got the same kind of style as him. The one he is fighting in that screen for example. You know where I can find him or others?

I see, well I wasn't planning something huge...like 10 original characters with 20 moves and special combinations and stuff. I thought we could use the characters that already exists out there. I think there are lots of them, on MUGEN infantry there are more than 10 that's for sure. So the character coding part won't be so much work. We just add them and then make potraits for them. That should't be too hard, then it's the character select screen...there we have to make 10 character slots, that for example is something I won't be able to do... --;then there is the menu, we just have to replace the images that are already there with some custom made ones. I'm pretty good with photoshop and graphic gale so logos and stuff will be done in a evening...but then again just to get some smart coding people to join takes

more than a evening :'( well it's your choice. I have tried before replacing the images at the title scren. And I almost made it, but if someone with more experience could help me out as I said before instead of making this game in 4 weeks we could make it in 1-2 days because I know nothing about coding. if someone else would do that part this could get finished so much faster...but I realize that the only way to make people join is if they themself are intrested in Bruce lee and about making a realistic fighting game. And btw I have added the bruce character to the default character select screen. I will look for some others that match the bruce sprite. Then we are almost finished! We only need to replace the images at the title screen and edit the character selection screen. So tomorrow or in a few days we hopefully got a

new game featuring bruce lee. But that is of course if someone is intrested in making one... --; Well this thread won't close (I hope) so you can join whenver you feel like it. I won't give up on a bruce lee fighting game in the nearest future. Also, if you are a true Bruce lee fan, I don't mind if you lead the project instead of me. So come on for buddhas sake...this game will be a tribute bruce lee and all he stood for. And then if some really smart ambitious people join, then maybe we could add a story to it too. With individual storylines for each character. Anyway just reply if you like to join and don't reply with other stuff...I know my english sucks and that people got their own projects to work on. But if they don't mind my stupid sounding english or haven't got any other project going on then there is no problem. Just join this one... :sugoi:

Ripper Roo:
I read your reply again, and sometimes reading it a second time makes you understand what someone is talking about. Well then...I guess I'l have a look at the characters stats and try to learn how to change bruce lee so he is better than the other 9 characters.  But the thing I really need help with is not the coding of the characters but with the replacement of the images on the title screen and then how to edit the character selection screen. When I tried to replace the images at the title screen the last time I took ages yes a entire evening. First I got a new program then I found out step by step how to convert them to bmp then how to import them. But then I asked at this forum why it wasnt working "I got some weird error" and he said I had to edit the groups and the images numbers. Thats it Im totally dead, thats like chinese to me. And then I thought like...why not put up a team and somoen else could do the replacement of the default images of the title screen. And then I made this thread, it has taken some time and still I'm where I was when I started. To come to the point where I should edit the images groups and numbers took me about maybe 4 hours. To get even one member has now taken me maybe 2 hours or more. I don't remember when I made the thread. So things is getting really slow, but I know it will pay of. Cuz if I should learn how to code and understand groups of images and images numbers this will take weeks. And that's time I haven't got. So please join... :-\

I'm not lasy or anything, I have already tried doing it on my own. But I know that if I learned how to code I wouldn't be able to make something good very fast. There are probably people around here who are masters at coding. So why should I learn how to code? A team works like this.

Quote
Guy with the idea: Zarnik
What to help with: Story, and ideas cuz he knows alot about martial art and stuff.

Guy who codes: Someone
What to help with: The coding, cuz that is what he is good at.

Guy who likes to sprite: Someone
What to help with: Spriting cuz that is what he is good at.

If you combine these people, what do you get. A fully made game where each person contributes with what they are good at. As I said before I'm not asking anyone to make the game for me. I'm asking them to help me with it. Because I'm very new to this and I'm not a real fan of learning to code. Then of course people don't have to do only coding and only story making. You could do different stuff, and it would be a great oppertunity for me to learn to code some or learn something new about how to make games.

I have looked through this forum, and there are alot of people who like to make their own games. But alot of them work by themself, and that often results in that the project is canceled and not get finished. A team would make something like that impossible to occur. Because if one team member leaves that doesn't mean the game will be cancelled. Because there are still people who is working on it. A team will also make everything go much faster, instead of only one guy who does everything. Three guys will complete it much faster. So if one guy one makes a game in 1 month, if there would be four people who works together it would finish in 1 week.

So come one, let's make this together. If we team up we will get a awesome game. A awesome game featuring bruce lee, come on people...I beg you, and I know this isn't your idea, but let's look at it in a smart point of view. If you know how to code and how to sprite and have been around this forum for ages. Then you probably know how to make a game, then again I bet there are people who are really skilled around here who have never made a full game. But with a team you will cooperate and help eachother out when you are stuck. So come on we are just wasting time on nothing right now. Let's make a game together!

Btw here is the Bruce lee sprite I found: http://www.mugen-infantry.net/index.php?ind=database&op=entry_view&iden=2312 The one he is fighting in that screen could be a good opponent don't you think. The sprites has the same kind of style, also I got the soundtrack from the bruce lee movies. So the music part is finished. Now we just gotta put it all together so let's get right to it. And don't keep babbling about how stupid teams are or that I want you to make a game for me. Because that is not true...I want you to help me make a game and then we will do it together. And just because you are a coder that doesn't mean you just gotta code. You can help out with the story telling and the layout of everything as well. So come on I'm tired of babbling about nothing. Join now! ;D

Btw sorry for my bad english... ;P

EDIT: Ok while you people think about joining...I'l start working. Btw if you got msn we can talk live mine is Dante--91@hotmail.com and I got a site and a forum where we could have the project thread. Or maybe we could have it here. But then all fans who want the game will see all our plot ideas and all our work  o_O that's no good...well reply now...and not next year... :S

So people don't work in teams o_O omg must I learn how to code and all that. Ahhh why can't we cooperate? Teamwork makes everything better, everything goes faster and smoother. Hey if a more experienced guy with mugen joins the project and if he is interested in making a realistic game featuring bruce lee. Then if he wants he can be the leader, cuz obiviously he is the most experienced one when it comes to making games. So is there anyone who like the idea about making a bruce lee game, btw for all you really young people who have never heard the name. This is Bruce Lee:

Hello, I wonder if anyone is intrested in making a game about Bruce Lee. I was thinking that we could have maybe have 6-10 characters and Bruce Lee should be the secret character you unlock in the end just like you unlock Heihachi mishima in the end of tekken 4. I'm sorry to say it, but I'm very new to this forum. And I'm not a pro with mugen, I can add characters and stages and add music to the title and the stages. But advance coding I know nothing about, and I'm having problem with changing the graphics at the main menu. --; But I'm a martial artist if that is anything good to be when you make games and I have seen all the bruce lee movies included the missing fotage that was found in 1994.

So yeah, I found a Bruce lee character and then some coding and some other characters and stages and we got the game. Stoyline in fighting games aren't so important I think. So yeah is anyone intrested. Btw I'm a decent spriter so that is something right. And you know what else would have been cool? If we could add Jet Li and Jackie chan, then Bruce lee could fight the other two great martial artist ;D

Please a game featuring the greatest martial artist ever, let's start making it ;)

Dude I think I found it... :o
Quote
;Title background definition
[TitleBGdef]
bgclearcolor = 0,0,0

[TitleBG 0]
type  = parallax
spriteno = 5, 1
start = 0, 145
width = 400, 1200
yscalestart = 100
yscaledelta = 1
tile  = 1,1
velocity = -1

[TitleBG 1]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5, 2
start = -160, 145
trans = sub

[TitleBG 2]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5,0
start = 0, 10
tile = 1,2
velocity = -1
mask = 0

[TitleBG 3]
type  = normal
spriteno = 0,0
start = 0, 40
mask = 1
trans = add
So you call the image by typing in the group/image number right. I found the group and image number on spriteno. So the TitleBG 3 name I shouldn't touch at all. If this is right then I know how to put a image into the title. And the reason why it didn't work before is because when I converted the sprites to PCX format the image and the group all went back to zero. So in order to make them appear I must type in the image and group number that are shown inside the system DEF file. And I do that inside Fighter Facrory. Please if I'm right confirm it :D  ;D

EDIT: This doesn't seem to work... :'( can anyone please tell me the right way of doing it...and why is it only Cyanide that replies o_O Is it only he who knows the answers...

First off, you need to define a pallete for your image to make it display colours properly.
You need to make sure the group and image (seriously these mean something) match up to what is defined in the system.def. The easiest way to do this is copy the system.sff and then edit the original by using change sprite rather than add and match things up that way. You will still need to tweak stuff but at least you'll have the correct groups and images.
This sounds like something I need to take a look at, but I'm a little confused about what you mean with the group and the image match up. Do you know of any tutorial that explains this in detail, or can you describe it more in detail yourself?  ;D

Hello again, I'm having big troubles with mugen. Now I'm gonna explain the problem as good as I can. "see sig".
I can run mugen without any errors and I can import both characters and screenpacks. Stages and all stuff you get from the internet. But Now I feel like editing some stuff on my own, I feel like starting with the main menu. I know all the graphics in mugen are SFF files. So in order to edit them I have to first convert them to BMP format. Now see if I do this right, ok.

1. I open up Fighting Factory.

2. Click Sprites/open.

3. Open the system sff file in Mugen/data.

4. Now the sprites are loaded.

5. I click export sprites/SPR maker

6. I save them in a folder that I choosed to call "stuff".

7. Now I open the logo image, the mugen title. With GIMP.

8. I just wanna test if it works to edit them, so I just put some random colors in the picture.

9. I save and exit GIMP.

10. Now I open up Fighter Factory.

11. I click Sprites/add and import all the sprites included the one I edited.

12. Now there are 31 sprites, the first one has no graphic.

13. Then I click sprite/save as.

14. I save it on the deskop and name it system.

15. I put it in the mugen/data folder. And overwrite the old one.

16. I test play it...

Results:

*Sometimes it starts and I see the menu, but the MUGEN text is all gone.
*Sometimes it won't start and a message pops up saying "assert Failure in spr-lib.c line 560"
*Sometimes it works, but only when I edited the sprite inside the Fighter Factory. But I wanna edit it with GIMP.!

Some more important questions:

*The default background images in mugen are called BG 0, BG 1...right, how can I change the name of the background images I have made myself, cuz if I make some sprites and then convert them to SFF format. And wanna use them in the title screen, how do I know what they are called?? Is it the names of the PCX files inside the SFF file that is the name that you write in system text document to call the image on the title screen?

*When I try to edit the mugen logo and make it bigger all fucks up when I try to open mugen up. How come??

I know this is alot of questions, but I can't find any tutorials anywhere. I have been working with these problems for some hours now and I can't see any tutorials on the net that explains this in detail. If I for example search for "Background tutorial Mugen" there are only tutorials about how to code your backgrounds and stuff. If I search for Fighter factory there are only tutorials how you make your own character. But I find no tutorial that explains how to edit your title screen, and change the images on the title screen. If anyone know a tutorial that can explain some of my problems or if you know the answer to any of them. Could you please give me the answer or link to the tutorial. And some guy earlier said that I could find all this in the documentation of the program. But I can't find any tutorial how to convert files and make them work in Mugen. So yeah....help ;D ....btw sorry for my english  ;P

As I said my english isn't the best so if you don't undertand anything you must tell me. So I can edit it, cuz I really need help! o_O

I got the exact same message, I edited the default mugen logo using fighting factory. Then I converted it to SFF and put it in the data folder.
Then I tried to open mugen. And this is what I got.

 --; For two hours I have now been trying to edit the graphics in mugen. But I can't get it to work. Is there anyone who know some really detailed tutorial that explains how you make backgrounds and use them in mugen. I mean not only how you code them but how you first make them in BMP format then convert them into SFF format. And then how you rename them the images inside the SFF file. So you can add the image names in these lines in the system.tex.

Quote
;Title background definition
[TitleBGdef]
bgclearcolor = 0,0,0

[TitleBG 0]
type  = parallax
spriteno = 5, 1
start = 0, 145
width = 400, 1200
yscalestart = 100
yscaledelta = 1
tile  = 1,1
velocity = -1

[TitleBG 1]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5, 2
start = -160, 145
trans = sub

[TitleBG 2]
type  = normal
spriteno = 5,0
start = 0, 10
tile = 1,2
velocity = -1
mask = 0

[TitleBG 3]
type  = normal
spriteno = 0,0
start = 0, 40
mask = 1
trans = add
The default images seem to be named "TitleBG 3" right. How can I change the name. So I easily can call my own made images? [/size]

Dude I feel like giving you a tip on that background, cuz it's so nice... :sugoi:
Go into GIMP or photoshop and use some nice filter to make it look more cartoony or, (not photo).
Like oil paint or comic look. Cuz a photograph in a 2d fighting game doesn't look so good.  :ninja:

EDIT: Ok I got it, almost...one more question. I have edited the logo PCX file. Now I wanna convert it to SFF again. I import them again by clicking /sprites/add right? But then still the MUGEN logo is there and my own logo is next to it in the list. I wanna replace the MUGEN logo. How do I do that? You understand what my problem is? Sorry for my bad english  --;

EDIT2: Also what line in the System DEF file calls the images, and how can I rename the images inside the SFF file? Nvm can anyone just tell me how I can make my own logo and make it replace the MUGEN logo? Thx  ;P
And it would be awesome if you could tell me fast and don't wait like a day or two, cuz I wanna replace my logo now  :P

EDIT3: What really bugs me about this program is that all the image files are converted into weird fucking file formats. In game maker and the rpg maker series it goes in a second to edit stuff... ??? Are there no one that can like hack MUGEN or something and make the program read BMP/JPG/PNG images. It would save people lots of time...

Hello I'm new to mugen and I got a question, how do I edited the image files? aka the backgrounds on the menu and on the character select screen? They are in SFF format, I can't open them with any image program. (I use GIMP/Graphic gale).
How can I convert them into something like jpeg or bmp. Then back to SFF format again to use them in my game? o_O
