I just got the error code today (160-0103) after playing last night (offline only; clearing challenges).  Updating the firmware didn't fix it.  Could not delete the game data either.  Smash Bros was the only game that was affected as I could play other games with no problem.

Issue appears to be related to powering off the console during auto-save.

Have no choice but to send my console to Nintendo for repairs.

TL;DR: Don't play the game until they address the issue.  I had thought that my console was safe when a reddit post claimed that it wasn't specific to Smash Bros (but it is).

Yeah, I agree with Mega Man.  His moves are going to take some getting used to (zoning character).

Did they remove aerial momentum canceling?

I sent vaanrose a private message on Smashboards indicating that the Alph alternate costume for Olimar had been confirmed as of this weekend's Smash 3DS Japanese demo (special thanks to this topic for informing me of this first).

Pic of the day. The legendary hero Riki appears as an Assist Trophy and in Shulk's Final Smash!! As an Assist Trophy, he uses many arts like Happy Happy, Freezinate, and Yoink! He sounds a bit like Tingle…but don't worry, Tingle will make an appearance too.
By the way, a cursor will appear above Assist Trophies and Pokémon to indicate which fighter is its ally. Now you can tell right off the bat who it belongs to!!

Tingle confirmed!

I was hoping to face the Nightmare Wizard as a boss in Smash Run.  Oh well, this is cool too.

There sure are a lot of Assist Trophies this time around.

Oh look, this has to be completely true because it came from a "reliable source", right?

http://www.examiner.com/article/super-smash-bros-4-character-roster-reveal-coming-soon-release-date-leaked

Quote
Nintendo will release Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS later this year, and now a probable release date for each version has been leaked by multiple retailers. According to a report by KDramaStars from Aug. 6, the release date for Super Smash Bros. 4 for 3DS and Wii U will differ by a little more than a month in North America with supplementary retailer rumors suggesting that the Wii U version will come with a free Amiibo figure. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the full character roster and all the stages will be revealed in a couple of weeks.

Masahiro Sakurai along with Nintendo previously confirmed that Super Smash Bros. 4 would see release in 2014 for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Currently, the Wii U version is slated as a Holiday 2014 release, with the 3DS version locked in for a release on Oct. 3 in North America. However, several retailers have started to advertise a potential release date for Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U and it would position the game’s release date just before Black Friday in North America.

The two speculated release dates for Super Smash Bros. 4 are currently Tuesday, Nov. 25 or Friday, Nov. 21. To coincide with these release dates, a report by Gamer Headlines from earlier this month suggests that Super Smash Bros. 4 will release on Nov. 21 and those that purchase a physical copy of the game will receive a free Amiibo figure. A Nov. release date would make sense for Nintendo as the company commonly uses the month to launch its biggest holiday software – Super Mario 3D World was released in Nov. for Wii U.

It has been confirmed that Nintendo will reveal the official character roster and all the stages of Super Smash Bros. 4 later this month. According to a listing on CoroCoro.tv, a special Super Smash Bros. 4 broadcast will air on Aug. 12 and all the characters and stages of the title will be revealed. Thus far, 36 characters have been announced for the official character roster of Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U and 3DS.

We’ll have our hands-on impressions for both the Wii U and 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. 4 early next week. Stay tuned.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.  Hang on just a second here.  Aren't we all wrong?  Wasn't this whole thing just a media fabrication?  Didn't North Korea win the World Cup by beating Portugal 7-0?

Granted I already have a ton of characters I want to try (Megaman, Luigi [main], Greninja, Rosalina, Little Mac), I was really hoping for Isaac to be in this game.  Since Shulk is also a sword-user with magic, this is now looking highly unlikely.

Hello!  After some coding, I've been able to implement most of the stage fatalities from your stages into my filmed characters.  I did have to make a few changes to your stages though (1.0 non zoom versions):

  • The Pit 3 is missing the spikes at the bottom, but they are present in the .sff file.  I had to add them into the stage .def file.
  • The Bell Tower needed the verticalfollow property to be changed to a higher value to allow the camera to follow P2 to the bottom of the level where the spikes are.  The boundhigh property also needed to be changed to a lower value to prevent an awkward vertical camera follow up top.
  • I forget which stage it was, but I had to manually add an "author=" stage info value so that my character knew to flag off of your specific stage when triggering the stage fatality logic.

A minor gripe I also have is the verticalfollow on some of the stages is so high that when one player is knocked into the air with an uppercut, the camera mainly follows them and loses sight of the player that performed the attack.

Just my two cents.  :)

Seriously, with all the customization and now all of the most popular mascots from the 1990s being in the same game...

Smash 4 has turned into one gigantic fan-gasm.

For one of the filmed characters I'm currently designing, the guy who's portraying the character wants to only be hittable in his feet.  My idea is to use a throwback to classic platforming games where he can only be hit a set number of times before he's defeated (instead of taking actual damage from attacks) to balance out this characteristic.

I'm assuming that this is going to create a problem if CLSN2 boxes are only around the foot area since these boxes are also used to determine character width and height.  I'm guessing that other characters would be able to jump right through him since theoretically, his width and height would be determined by the CLSN2 boxes at his feet.

I was thinking of a workaround where I spawn an invisible helper (completely unhittable) which is constantly bound to the player's X/Y position and will mimic the animations of the player character, but with a different set of "normal" CLSN2 hit boxes and is pushable.  This may prevent opponents from walking/jumping through the character, but may cause issues when the player character walks into other characters, so I'm not sure if this idea is 100% foolproof.

Any other workaround ideas?

Someone mentioned an interesting idea regarding the Eevee Pokéball Pokémon.  At first, it appears to be a somewhat useless Pokémon attack that merely slams into the opponent... but what if there's actually more to Eevee than meets the eye?  What if it can get hit by...

  • Fire Attack (Charizard, Mario Fireball, etc) = Flareon
  • Dark Attack (Ganondorf) = Umbreon
  • Grass Attack (Grass based Pokémon) = Leafeon
  • Fairy Attack (Jigglypuff?) = Sylveon
  • Ice Attack (Ice Climbers, Mr. Freezie, Kirby Ice breath, etc) = Glaceon
  • Psychic Attack (Mewtwo?!) = Espeon
  • Water Attack (Greninja) = Vaporeon
  • Electric Attack (Pikachu) = Jolteon

It theoretically COULD evolve into a different Pokémon type upon contact and unleash a more powerful attack...
